I THINK DARTH VADER SUCKS

Attached: motti.jpg (800x450, 35K)

General Veers > all other Imperial officers

Julian Glover is an underrated actor, I looked him up and half the shit he was in I was like "that was him?"

they are white

Nice aesthetics and most of them look professional and competent.

They're career military officers who remain calm and efficient.

As opposed to the first order who are constantly shouting in rage and losing their shit as brown teenagers call them cockwombles

Funny hats. Just like touhou

If he was in charge, the Empire would have won.

>cleanly and ruthlessly overwhelms the rebels
>executes a solid plan and routes his enemies completely
>no cartoon villainy, just a general who's good at his job
>survives
yeah I'm thinking veers was based

They had snazzy uniforms and their ships were clean, unlike those scruffy rebels

Attached: 1559882602578.jpg (640x934, 79K)

Came to post this.

>Copies all Nazi militar & political apparatus.
Likable.

Lord Vader, this is an unexpected pleasure. We are honored by your presence.

Attached: Moff Jerjerrod.jpg (1920x816, 148K)

I thought Veers died, at least in the novelization, after a snowspeeder collided with his AT-AT cockpit

They did their job and did it well for the most part.

i think a big part is also that they were also under the thumb of the sith. if they displeased vader or the emperor they would be killed by literal MAGIC. even though they were the professional and disciplined instruments of a brutal, totalitarian regime, they were also in danger and suffering from it.

i always liked the idea that after the death star 2 was destroyed and vader and the emperor were killed, they probably breathed a sigh of relief and peacefully surrendered. watch Downfall and you'll notice the Nazi officers also come across as quite likable because they live in fear of Hitler's tirades and in secret despair that they are close to getting assraped by Soviet soldiers while the Fuhrer moves paper divisions around on a map and they can't say anything out of line.

Attached: 1526959197405.jpg (708x480, 37K)

>i always liked the idea that after the death star 2 was destroyed and vader and the emperor were killed, they probably breathed a sigh of relief and peacefully surrendered
Except they didn't. Once Emps and Vader were gone, it went full Mid-east with Moffs and Admirals vying for power.

You may dispense with the pleasantries, Commander. I’m here to put you back on schedule.

Attached: Jerjerrod-and-Vader.jpg (1280x720, 150K)

>As opposed to the first order who are constantly shouting in rage and losing their shit as brown teenagers call them cockwombles
Even the rebels are more composed and cool than the First Order.

Attached: Myw9y.jpg (620x465, 82K)

He's wearing a DDR helmet, sort of the opposite of the Nazis.

>even the rebels are [...] cool than the First Order

you either left out a comparative or thought more cool is an acceptable comparative form, which is not

>ywn own a pleasant tree-dispenser

shut up faggot

In the old eu veers was alive and still fighting. Never confirmed to die. Probably still with the imperial remnants

Wouldn't some one who hated being in the empire stay a stormtrooper or something? I feel like big dick commanders and other higher positions would be filled with people that actually like the empire

well the empire is still centralizing in ANH. the emperor has just dissolved the senate which causes consternation with some imperial officers

They weren't all caricatures or worthless niggers.

They seemed competent and deadly, which is why the main heroes were needed to defeat them. People like competence.

>that horrible feel when admiral Piett is dead

>signs of an incel
>he wanted the Empire to win
oh no no no

Honor, duty, sense of purpose.

The older I get, the more I realize the Empire was right all along.

Empire: historical Nazis
First Order: Saturday morning cartoon Nazis

I-Incel...

He was super based.

It was because they all seemed like seasoned military officers. Put simply, they were based

How? We don't really know Sheev tax policies.

Attached: how veers dodged death.webm (1280x592, 1.7M)

Competency, dignity, and allegiance to a sense of duty.

He was always my favorite

Competency and cool uniforms are pretty much all you need for likable villains

Attached: our fallen brothers can sleep softly tonight.jpg (1200x861, 626K)

Essentially, real military men, vs "Nazis" as they exist in the minds of people who were raised on pop-culture.

If I loved in the Star Wars universe I would totally join the Imperial Academy

What would Trump supporters do? Join the empire!

Attached: 1563593124491.jpg (1439x1581, 822K)

Imagine how awesome a LoGH style anime about the empire would be. I mean that's half the the reason LoGH is so awesome anyways, is tha tthe whole cast is like the Imperial Officers.

Attached: legend_of_the_galactic_empire_by_spartaphyx_dc9vb7l-fullview.png (900x636, 834K)

It's a surreal kind of feel

Attached: intensify.jpg (640x480, 118K)

The empire not only took care of me, but I made a lot of friends along the way...

Attached: darth-vader-storm-troopers.jpg (3648x2736, 1.38M)

Heir to the Empire opens with and Imperial Officer essentially admitting he thought the Emperor was a bit of a kook. The idea that there's a disconnect between the military men, who in their minds are just serving in their legitimate government's armed forces, and this weird dark religion that kind of sits in it's own bubble at the top of it all is interesting.

lol so true also well written

>just serving in their legitimate government's armed forces, and this weird dark religion that kind of sits in it's own bubble at the top of it all
hmmmm

One of my dreams since I played this.

>just serving in their legitimate government's armed forces, and this weird religion that kind of sits in it's own bubble at the top of it
Isn't even that different from the Republic with the Jedi Council influencing them.

Pretty much this

Didn't realize Ted Cruz was in the armed forces before moving into politics

>Image
We're never going to get a Generation Kill style miniseries with a unit from the 501st are we?

Sir, Rebel ships are coming into our sector.
Good. Our first catch of the day.

He died on Hoth in the novelization, tho.

needs a middle finger edit

Improved version of that ''''speech''''

when they got democracy back they started getting ruled by incompetent backstabbers who made decisions based on the ramifications to their careers. even in nu-wars they got a bunch of pussy ass hippies

youtube.com/watch?v=ZxOrLDa_aK4

fug forgot the link

>well educated officers probably from some kind of privileged or other pedigree background
>to them each operation is by the books and they ruthlessly execute the will of their command
>can only be stopped by plot devices
They’re real military officers and it shows the way they’re portrayed. Confident yet with the talent to back it up
Compare it with the First Order officers who aren’t really officers. Really they’re more entertainers who are given really important roles. This is why they all appear comically inept. It’s not their fault, they would rather be shitposting online than leading armies into battle

They act so weird in the new movies. Do the writers actually think that’s how people act?

British accents.
New trilogy is sorely lacking in this department

He did die in the novelization but they retconned it to him simply being maimed and he has to get cyborb legs. He survives the collapse of the empire after RotJ and stays loyal to the imperial remnant. However after its found out that Vader betrayed and killed the Emperor all soldiers who were associated with Vader were shunned and disrespected which included Veers who was send on a suicide mission with other Vader associated soldiers in order to purge them from the ranks. Veers dies on the mission making him the first character from the folms to die in the old EU.

Where are you taking this, thing?

>Compare it with the First Order officers who aren’t really officers. Really they’re more entertainers who are given really important roles. This is why they all appear comically inept. It’s not their fault, they would rather be shitposting online than leading armies into battle
The entire First Order has one competent looking and sounding officer and he was still made to fail thanks to le quipping latino pilot

youtube.com/watch?v=6OeqiPxIveM

Nope. Even if we did get a stormtrooper TV show, they'd be questioning their morals every other minute and the finale would have them defect

Agreed on all points

thats how women see the military

Dilate.

What a chad

Not bad

Because they got screen time and had good actors portraying them

So real life basically?

I kind of wish they'd gone all in with the idea that the whole First Order/Resistance conflict in the ST was actually a big farce to benefit arms dealers. The plot twist should have been that Snoke was running both of them, putting useful idiots and incompetent revolutionaries in all of the important positions.

That's because he was a veteran from Imperial days.

It's shocking just how poorly that CGI has aged already.

>they'd be questioning their morals every other minute and the finale would have them defect
"Needa, are we the baddies?"

Attached: 1325.jpg (1024x576, 33K)

>finale would have them defect

We'd be lucky if they don't defect on the second episode.

I love that he did the voice for veers in the Lego Star Wars tv show

>kristatos in for your eyes only
this, I thought for sure he was some Euro actor I had never seen before

and maester Pycelle in GoT lol

this, but they don't seem to understand that anymore, they all have to be irrational weirdos frothing at the mouth if they are anything but "liberal" now, fucking millenials ruining Hollywood

Attached: 1538370034718.jpg (960x932, 71K)

btw Charles Dance from GOT also appeared in For your Eyes Only

You have to consider what the priorities of Disney are. They don't want you appreciating the Empire, even in the sense of finding them respectable villains you love to hate. Everything is propaganda with these people. Nu-Star Wars is like one of those Popeye cartoons where they make the Japanese look ridiculous.

this reminds me of when I was a kid and introducing a friend to a WW2 board game, he said he wanted to play as "the Nazis" and I said "well actually in this scenario you're just regular Wehrmacht, these guys were just German Army" (as opposed to other scenarios where he could play as SS) and it seemed to blow his mind.

>professional
>efficient
>courageous
>strong sense of loyalty
>shown to be competent in extreme situations

Even if you disagree with their politics they earn your respect

At least these are fun, unlike nu-wars.

Attached: 1558306390892.webm (480x360, 2.84M)

why can't Disney hire you?

Attached: mfw.png (274x368, 112K)

thats also how they portrayed nazis before the seventies

That was what the Emperor was doing in the prequels.

Disney wouldn't want to expose (((corporatism))) or themselves

its really fucking weird how there seems to be a frothing rage about the nazis 70 years after the fact and this hatred seems more intense than what was displayed by the actual people who experienced WWII. Why the seething hatred out of nowhere....

The same as what made the National Socialists better than the current breed of neo-nazis.

The Emperor is most displeased by your lack of progress on the Imperial shitposting

you just know there are a lot of really rich people who own A. Defense stocks and B. Disney conglomerate stock

UP YOUR ASS

Attached: Insulting Vader.png (1920x881, 335K)

haven't you ever had a sociopath friend who when you would discover one of their shitty little plots to get the better of you and confront them about it they would immediately respond by getting extremely angry and loud and accusatory toward you to deflect the blame for wrongdoing away from themselves?

You're an esteemed Imperial Admiral with a spotless record, you keep your Super Star Destroyer in order, running at maximum efficiency. Then Lord Vader the great metal oaf barges his way in bringing this band of bounty hunter scum to crawl all over your tidy bridge. One of them isn't even wearing shoes, and leered at you unnecessarily as you stood in the bridge pit like a common technician.
What do you do?

Attached: BountyHunters.jpg (1024x768, 178K)

>What do you do?
Put prices on all of their heads so they'll kill each other and save you a whole lot of time and effort.

Kek, you'd think they would have made them leave their weapons in the armory when they came aboard, but I guess they wouldn't look as impressive standing their with their thumbs in their belt loops

Announce "Bounty hunters! We don't need their scum!" to a technician, but quietly so Vader doesn't hear. That'll teach em.

Sounds like a cut off The Wall

>but I guess they wouldn't look as impressive standing their with their thumbs in their belt loops

Admiral Ozzel is the true legend of acting.

Does Star Wars signing sessions in Britain, everyone asks him for Mr Bronson.

Attached: bronson88full.jpg (800x1131, 163K)

Cmon nigga what we know about both sides

>Empire: hold control of the Galaxy for years
>Rebels: after they finally defeat the Empire what did you hey do? Lise to the Joke that IS the First irder

Its not hard to like the Empire after you ser the Full picture

Not so much Nazis but certainly this guy. It was a problem for Monty fighting against him at the time.

Attached: rommel.jpg (313x399, 20K)

Wait til they're leaving, then blow them all out an airlock.

That's why desert campaign films are pure kino

They feel like cold reserved military officers, rather than comical fanatics. They're also usually portrayed by older British actors, giving this almost historical feel to the Imperial Army: the officers are not only more experienced but also of a presumably wealthier background. This all gives the competent ones a more intimidating feel. It also makes the fuckups feel more realistic: some of the officers are probably in their position due to their background more than their experience.

>played Jesus in ‘the Life of Brian’

Amazing, I had no idea.

its just so strange how these youth 70 years later are somehow more viciously anti-nazi than the actual generation that fought like why is it so easy to rile people up with that single word

I wish there were more, I'd love a high production value modern take on it. My grandfather was there and we found out, after his death, at Tobruk as well (he was in the artillery). He was one of those "I didn't see anything and nothing worth mentioning happened" types.

Also General Slim in Burma would make a great film (utter defeat...then chase the Japs the length of the island and into the sea racing against the monsoon season).

Chances he's a white male.

who is that?

It's because "The Nazis" aren't even the Nazis anymore. "The Nazis" are anyone you don't like. Anyone who questions your world-view goes against the program. "Nazi" is the new "Heretic".
It's interesting how if you watch old war films, made when most people alive still remembered the war, they portray the Germans with a lot more humanity. Over these past 70 years, WW2 in the public imagination has stopped being a historical conflict, and become the founding religious myth of our society.

Attached: 1566072268507.jpg (800x800, 188K)

Slim would be great. My great uncle was in the desert as well, if anyone asked what he did he used to say "I was a driver". It was only after he died we found out that he drove for the LRDG.

It’s how the mind of the ledditor sees the world
reddit.com/r/StarWars/comments/6abmgl/so_im_rewatching_tfa_why_are_all_the_first_order/

>why are people who saw real people as nazis more likely to portray them as real people?
The average persons first exposure to nazis in America is months of elementary school on the holocaust. The war itself is ignored until maybe late high school

i fucking hate nu-wars. To me Star Wars is just the OT, some of the books, and some of the video games.

So basically the Empire is the Roman Empire (or space Nazis according to reddit) and the FO is /pol/

I mean I guess that’s a good comparison but it doesn’t excuse the fact that it’s portrayed so fucking poorly that it’s comical

And pop culture. I think a big part of what happened is that the war was explained to the kids of the WW2 generation with things like Captain America, that simplified a very complicated and unfortunate period of world history into good guys and bad guys, because you know, kids are dumb and stuff.
Well, those kids grew up, but they kept that conception of the war, and then they started to tell their own stories about the war through movies and pulp literature, which passed the message down to further generations, all the while allowing it to become even more warped and amplified.
A bit further down the line you get Indiana Jones, Saving Private Ryan, Wolfenstein 3D. The entire thing has become a cartoon.

Just the fact you had the feeling that they only cared about the stability of the empire after the galaxy was ravaged by the Clone Wars and not the politics that involved the jedi and the sith. They have an Emperor, they are loyal to him, but the emperor is a means to an end rather than the final solution.
Remember most Imperial officers were also officers during the Clone Wars, so they saw the damage something like the CIS can inflict.

Interesting isn't it. I only saw his medals once while he was alive and only because he was going at them with the Brasso. I asked him what they were about, he showed me the Africa Star, the rest were all for neat uniform apparently and speaking of which, when did you last clean those shoes?

Even forgetting what they did at the time the passing of that generation is a huge loss to the country in all kinds of ways I've only relatively recently started to appreciate.

Bless you, user.

Attached: Base_Of_Operations_by_ukitakumuki.jpg (1024x768, 230K)

They were professional and felt like a legitimate military force and legitimate threat. As well as a legitimate parody of fascism.
Even the prequels despite all their flaws got the "war" and ideologies part right. The Confederacy are greedy oligarchs and the democratic republic devolves into fascism when in crisis against greedy oligarchs attempting succession.

New Onions wars feels like it was written by people who have never actually understood the military or political theory. It doesn't feel like a war, the constant bombardment of tired comedic tropes and nostalgia bait kill any tone of the movie. First order do not feel like a threat to anything, just angry teenagers that literally kidnap children. The nu-rebels aren't likeable good guys, they feel like college communists who wanna tell you why you are unknowingly racist and that they are too smart to work retail. Looking at you admiral purple hair.
These don't feel like real characters, they feel like frauds desperately pretending to be something they are not. And I think that's why it's so deeply offensive to so many.

Attached: 1562114118299 chad.png (764x877, 533K)

>Does Star Wars signing
He died 14 years ago. Mr Bronson was based as fuck though.

What I wonder about is what exactly happened to make them okay with blowing up a whole planet full of people? The Rebels must have done some shit.

>It doesn't feel like a war
The sides are "literal who" factions. Who the fuck are the First Order? What the fuck happened with the Empire and their fleet? Why the hell the good guys are The Resistance? Resistance against who?

>just buy the books, goy
Yeah, no.

KENDALLL!

Yes, I didn't mean to imply he was still going. Its amusing to me the bulk of his work was very much Hitler/assorted senior Nazis. Almost typecasting to make him a French teacher.

the actor who played ozzel played hitler in the last crusade he really does look like der fuhrer

I think you're supposed to assume that the First Order are some remnant of the old Empire, who Snoke and Kylo Ren helped to bring back to power, but good luck finding this explained in the movies.

Have a go of this, scenery-chewing kino.
youtu.be/3F2oonaLNEo

damn he does

The guy was a pretty good actor. He managed to make a cunt of a teacher like Bronson, that made a school kid kill himself an actual legend. It was great when Kendal topped himself in Bronson's car. "I'LL NEVER BE ABLE TO DRIVE IN THAT CAR AGAIN".

Attached: CrM1EzoXEAArqR_.jpg (1200x1200, 168K)

The Resistance are a private army run by Princess Leia and some other Boomer fucks who are fighting the First Order alone because the New Republic just don't wanna, I guess?
Yeah, this world building is fucking trash.
Don't ask me who Snoke is.

they were professionals

Did the Republic ever blow up planets and slaughter random ayys?

>Sheard portrayed Adolf Hitler five times in his career: in Rogue Male (1976), The Tomorrow People (1978), The Dirty Dozen: Next Mission (1985), Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and the documentary Secret History: Hitler of the Andes (2003). He also portrayed Heinrich Himmler three times, in The Death of Adolf Hitler (1973), The Bunker (1981) and Space (1985). Although Sheard never played Hermann Göring, he did play Göring's double in the 'Allo 'Allo!
Quite the résumé

This pic is amazing

so many true statements in this I won't rehash any of them but I will move on to a little pet peeve of mine: the original Empire felt like an actual military with a lot of strength but it was limited by reality and no there weren't enough Star Destroyers to be everywhere at once and yes a dozen or so AT-ATs were what they could put down on Hoth for the initial assault, and yes the Death Star did more than double their combined firepower and was a "revolution" on the battlefield, etc, but this nu-wars has lost all sense of grounding things, every film has a new ship for the main baddie that absolutely dwarfs he previous gargantuan ship, in fact it launches hundreds of his former ultra-dreadnoughts like fighters, it really does show a total inability to even grasp what a military conflict between near-peers is like and makes it so much less interesting a "war" story, but I guess it's just a love story now anyway, too bad

Attached: enhanced-buzz-wide-15733-1398183948-22.jpg (990x743, 147K)

>female crew members everywhere
yikes

>the First Order represent all things bigoted and regressive, but are still strangely diverse
Can't even get their own dumb ass metaphors right.

>women can't be bad guys

I feel like a lot of them were pretty shoot first ask questions later kind of officers. Tarkin comes from a noble yet hardcore family. So I guess they just care about doing the job more than the effects of it

They weren't American

a rule of thumb of mine from being in the military, 10% females on your team reduces your team's productivity by 20%, a 40% female team suffers an 80% reduction in productivity, and so on

Why can't sci fi good guys be as aesthetic as the bad guys? A lot, and I mean a lot, of science fiction films and tv shows run into this problem.

it was more that Tarkin was just an evil bastard. IIRC one of his last thoughts before being blown up is how he can uze the death star to overthrow palpatine he wasnt exactly the loyal soldier striving for order such as Veers and Piett.

The guy in that pic is American you fucktard

Surely it’s not that bad in a futuristic navy where computers do all the work. It’s not like they hand them guns and tell them to carry their wounded comrades around

Not in the movie, so not canon.

>EU isnt canon
fuck off disney also pretty sure what i said was in the novelization

The same shit novelization that killed Veers? Fuck off.

>EU
>canon at any point
It was shit and contradictory. Killing the EU is the only good thing Disney did about SW.

sure, I don't mean in an office setting but on a flight line or the like...

Disney didn't kill the EU, they just replaced it with their own, much worse version

Veers is in ESB Tarkin in ANH you stupid shill you have no clue what youre talking about

It was written by people who tuck their thumb in when they make a fist.

I'm talking about the novelizations, retard. They are shit and only retards, like you, like them.

wasn't the 501st for the most part clones? I thought Vader hand picked the best regiment and added to it to basically jihad anyone that questioned the empire

that wouldve been funny
>set course for coruscant, commence primary ignition
>but thats our capital, trilions of people live there
>you may fire when ready
>kaboooooom
>now who's the fucking boss??? huh?
>sir, you have a call from planet Byss
>from planet what? who is it?
>he, he's the... he's the emperor

If your bad guys are supposed to represent the absolute most cartoonish version of the Nazis, they should probably all be white men, at least.

Being higher up still means more pay and less chances to get killed.

>contradictory.
no

there was probably this period of time right after Sheev took office that he survived assassination attempt after assassination attempt. All of the officers watching could only conclude he did infact have some sort of magical powers.

Probably because they act like people and not caricatures.

>oh boy oh boy it’s my first day as admiral
>whoops turned off hyperspace a second too late
>what’s that? Vader wants to talk to me? Golly I’m sure glad he knows my name now, we can talk about this whole Hoth operation and such

the point is that tarkin and veers are in completely different novels you dim witted ESL shill

Care to quote when I said that happened in the same novel, retard?

Whats wrong with tucking your thumb?

iirc ozzel was a massive fuck up who only had his rank due to nepotism Hoth was just the final straw in his string of fuck ups

>shits himself internally

this happens today, but no one educates your friend, they just chastise him for his choice

You might laugh, but its these kind of scenes that made the Empire feel real and the officers human, Piette cares about the dignity of the imperial navy and feels responsible for it so he gets mad when people he considers to be beneath him get involved in imperial matters

if you punch too hard it can break your thumb by being crushed feom the pressure because of how its tucked in

Name one (1) line in disney wars that comes close to attaining this level of eloquence. I'll wait.

a white woman

they are, but the biggest ones aren't in front of the screen in this case

Whatever the chinese girl said to the black on salt hoth

She barely looks white.

Originally it was all clones, but as they were phased out regular troops were brought it to replace them. The clones aged at an accelerated rate so by the time of episode IV they'd basically all have retired or died of old age and the 501st would have been entirely regular human recruits.

I think it’s more like Vader doesn’t even need to be standing next to you to force choke you to death if you so much as step out of line. Like all he needs is a hologram of you an entire system away and he’ll just snap your neck. So really you’re just balancing getting shot to death or having an unhinged cyborg make an example out of you

They are human, they have dignity and appear aware of themselves and their surroundings.

>it's salt

Maybe in Rogue One? I'm too lazy to check the scrip.

then where do you put it?

Reminder Palleon managed to salvage the Remnat and paved the way for the Fel Empire resurgence.

Also Leia´s only surviving ended up being the fucking Galactic Empress kek

Good answer

How does Pellaeon manage to be so sympathetic? I can't help but root for him.

so like making an ok gesture?

Old man with a nice mustache. You can't top that.

>OG Xbox
truly based and redpilled

Why did popeye write SO in morse code on the guns? SOS is ... --- ...

if you want to punch people with your hand in the shape of the 'ok' gesture then I'm sure that could only improve upon the world

This, also able to call out Admiral Keikaku and Sheev on his shit

Attached: Gavrisompellaeon.jpg (1000x631, 908K)

hes a noble, loyal and honourable man who just happens to fight for the bad guys. His nobleness stands out even more compared to his collegues as opposed to the rebels who are all mostly good so their qualities dont stand out as much.

at least pellaeon is canon again, though not with Thrawn, who is also canon again, directly.

Attached: autist bf test.jpg (480x367, 56K)

Doesn't Pellaeon have a cameo in Clone Wars, or something?

>not deleting the " 't"
One job.

>we will only accept unconditional surrender

>General Maximillian Veers
>Grand Moff Tiann Jerjerrod
>Admiral Firmus Piett
wookiepedia has consumed too many hours than i care to admit

those are literally the last people in the galaxy that you would want to fuck with, just fucking look at ig-88

no, Rebels and only by mention. the newest Thrawn book has Thrawn "win" over Captain Pellaeon of ISD whatever to his side shortly before the Rebels series finale. Pellaeon then brings his ISD alongside Thrawn's and a couple others to Lothal to try and stop the Ghost crew from liberating the planet. Thrawn's ISD gets catapulted into hyperspace (current end of canon Thrawn's known timeline) and Pellaeon's ISD is still on Lothal, status unknown.
Then RO/ANH happens like a day later.

the galactic empire is basically just the british empire, not the Nazis like people say. and those guys were pretty likable.

id say theyre a combo of 60s/70s america and the british empire with the aesthetics of the nazis with a smattering of the soviet union thrpugh its totalitarianism and the mention of collectivizing and nationalizing industry.

Lmao, I remember arguing with my older brother whether the explosion on the title graphic is a x wing or a z95 headhunter

But they didn't

>perfidious albion

I'll take the Nazis any day off the week.

Since this is a Star Wars thread:
Is the Trade Federation that powerful that they can just blockade and ruin a planet's economy on a whim?

Yes? I mean, that's literally the start of The Phantom Menace. Why are you even asking?

THEY OBVIOUSLY HAD HOMOSEXUAL RELATIONS WITH EACH OTHER

Only asking because why the fuck would you give what is basically a singular company that much power?

why else do you think their bodyguard/soldiers were the main force of the CIS?

yes the trade federation was essentially a oligarcal mini-empire that controlled multiple planets and had a seat in the galactic senate

they had the biggest private army in the galaxy and a monopoly on the outer rim commerce
they are like a mix of amazon, fedex, ups, black water and china

They are space Jews that pay space taxes. I mean, lots of real corporations are more rich and powerful than countries, the only thing stopping them is international law (unlike interspace law, it seems).

why would you let amazon have such control over internet shopping that it starts hurting just about every other company that does the same thing?
it just happens naturally until you are forced to intervene and stop it.
even in SW the Trade Federation weren't the only company that had power like that. mining guilds could control whole sectors with untold numbers of slave workers and governments under their thumbs. the Jedi Order, though not a company, had full control over force sensitives, jedi and sith relics and historical sites, and first claim on kyber crystals for thousands of years and no one told them no.

Even Capitain Canady, with his total 30 seconds of screentime, felt like a more fleshed out character than any of these first orders stooges.

You could just feel he was an an old Empire officer full of disdain for the first order and their amateurish leadership. He would have been a great secondary vilain.

>chiss acsendency
fuck completely forgor about them iw that im remembering it im pretty sure the Hutt Cartels were 2nd during the republic but were battered down to 1/3rd or 2/3rds of its power by the empire in the interim between RotS and ANH due to the Empire wanting control over their businesses and the Empires anti-slavery laws which the Hutts kept ignoring until they had their shit pushed in. Then the Chiss rose up in the power vaccum and were 2nd most powerful during the OT except maybe the Black Suns and Prince Xizor who i believe was word for word called the 3rd most powerful man in the galaxy after Vader and the Emperor.

we're mostly discussing the old EU here but thanks for the insight on the nu canon im surprised they even mentioned the Hutts at all.

They're desperate for a boogeyman, something to vilify and prop up their ideals. They don't know anything about Nazism, other than the fact that they were an enemy, and their ways were frowned upon.

Could the empire defeat the imperium of man?

Attached: Cadian_8th_Regiment-small.jpg (702x438, 69K)

one legion and a primarch could solo the entire empire no contest let alone the entire imperium

Star trek alien

Wait til they're on their ships, then intensify forward firepower and vaporize em all.

Probably
hyperspace>warp
Also way more resources since the empire has control of more of its galaxy

IoM can't even travel outside the astonomicon, so SW empire only need to wait for the false Emperor to day, so they can't travel at all and conquer them one planet at time.

SW empire lasted what, 30, 40 years?
IoM has been going on for 40000 years

Barring an open conflict between the two it's hard to say exactly who's more powerful and as you said timeframe matters a lot since the balance of power shifted pretty rapidly in the late Republic to Civil War era. There's also Zann who were re-canonized but I don't think in the capacity it had in the EU so they'd be up there as well.

They have about 1% of the imperium’s population, way way fewer Magic users, and and ... really nothing going for them

40K is the kindergarden playground "No I block all your bullets with my anti-everything shield" level of bullshit power and maturity brought to life so probably not without some asspulls from the SW side.

well he had enough cash or credit to fund and build two death stars without straining the Empire's economy too much, so we can assume he was an adequate steward.

The Emperor and The Emperor would probably be good friends desu.

The empire is just a continuation of the republic.
So 25000 years.

The imperium of man hasn't lasted that long. It's not called 40k because it's been 40k years of the imperium, it's called 40k because it takes place 40000 AD.
The imperium of man was created following the Unifcation wars in 29k ad, 11000 years of an empire with the empire at the head(corpse throne or otherwise).
Humanity in 40k start to colonize other star systems around 15k ad, but that's without warp drive and just nearby star systems, warp drive around 18k.
22000 years has humanity been a relevant interstellar force in 40k.

This fanaticism was deliberately inculcated in the newest generations. All context and nuance surrounding these events have been wiped away by successive waves of unchecked dehumanization and atrocity propaganda.

In my case, being able to talk to my grandfather about his experiences and reading my fathers old books about the war largely neutered the programming for me before it even had a chance.

As it turns out, we haven't always been at war with Eurasia.

I'll add the board room scene to the OT gems:

Here you see multiple factions vying for power: The Death Star fanboys, the ArmyNavy, Tarkin, and Vader.

The ArmyNavy officers, represented by Tagge, are nervous that their significance in the Empire will wane with the Death Star's public reveal. They're making a stink about the stolen data tapes because they want to delay the station's activation.

The Death Star supporters, represented by Adm. Motti, see that their chance to be the biggest swinging dick in the galaxy and are eager to get on with it.

In walks Tarkin and Vader.

Tarkin announces the dissolution of the Senate, stating fear of the Death Star will maintain order. While saying this, he looks at Motti, who smirks, thinking he's getting commended for being a loyal DS fanboy. So Motti gets a big head and boasts about the station's invulnerability. While saying this, he smirks back at Tarkin, he's playing it up, reaffirming his loyalty.

Vader admonishes Motti, pointing out that The Force is more powerful than the technological terror of the Death Star. It's important to remember that Vader, while technically under Tarkin's command, was placed on the station to be the Emperor's commisar and ensure nobody gets any bright ideas about using the superweapon to stage a coup. His statement is an open threat to everybody in the room

Motti doesnt take the hint. He thinks the Station makes his faction top dog and believes he has Tarkin's backing because of those aforementioned smirks. He never explicitly doubts that the Force or the Jedi are real, just that, like the Imperial Navy, their time has come and gone. So Vader chokes him.

Everyone gets the point

That whole scene of bickering officers scheming for power in a polished board room is meant to contrast with the dusty, ragtag Rebel Alliance, which is always depicted as unified and focused in their goals. It is extremely subtle and well executed.

You will never see its like again in Nu-Wars.

Fantastic post

fuck that clone shit

Pasta, but delicious and eye opening pasta. Perfect scene.

pretty sure tagge was genuinely concerned about the vulnerabilities and iirc was the only imperial officer present who was wise enough to consider the rebels a viable threat he wasnt just looking out for his career and influence otherwise great post

Video of scene. It's worth rewatching.

m.youtube.com/watch?v=YnNSnJbjdws

I can't even imagine a scene like this existing in a Nu-Wars movie. The closest thing to it might be scenes from Rogue One, but even those get ruined by Krennik's overacting and bungled characterization.

m.youtube.com/watch?v=Y17jN5E2To0

>I kind of wish they'd gone all in with the idea that the whole First Order/Resistance conflict in the ST was actually a big farce to benefit arms dealers.

that´s what Benicio del toro´s character said in the Last Jedi, kudos to rian johnson lmao

Why the fuck didn’t the rebels make more than one copy of the Death Star plans?

>bad guys

There's nothing that makes the Empire objectively bad

The Death Star plans were beamed from Toprawa to the Tantiv IV, which was the only rebel ship passing the planet, since it was restricted space.

The imperials immediately gave chase and caught the tantiv IV. So the rebels never had time to make numerous copies of the data. Hiding it in a droid with instructions to find Obi Wan Kenobi and from there, get to Rebels at Alderaan was the best shot they had.

utterly based

in the sense that they are the antagonists in a fictional story

Krennik's overly emotional, and dramatic attitude always gave me the impression he was more academic than officer and just found himself in his position due to convenience than actual dedication to the cause or a sense of duty. He makes for a shit officer but an arrogant scientist with a massive ego, grand personal ambitions, and a touch of autism fits him to a T. In that context he contrasts well with Tarkkin who's an officer through and though, and would never let personal ambition cloud his judgement.

When the first movies were made, the U.S. and its people saw itself in the Rebels. Over time the U.S. came to idolize and even try to emulate the Empire. You can't make movies where the villain is cold, calculated, and competent anymore because it hits too close to home and people will end up cheering for the villain.

Oh crap I can name all three

How come the imperial officers in BLACK spoke American english and the ones in GREY spoke UK English?
