I remember being a kid and watching comedy criticize hypocritical Christians and laughing my ass off, because I had never seen anything like that before. Just one example of many, but the point is that to be "shocking" you can't just hit the easy targets. Sometimes you have to hit the targets that you will get in trouble for hitting, that's where real comedy is.
You know what it kind of reminds me of is Robert from GoT. The idea that there's a difference between conquering a land and ruling it. In 2001 the 'sacred cows' that comedians were hitting were still sacred, there would still be controversies when something hardcore anti-white or anti-christian came out on TV. Now, it's every day and nobody cares. The comedians won, they conquered the cultural continent.
But now what? You can't just keep hitting the same groups, it's already become culturally accepted to hit them. It's not shocking anymore. You have to find new groups, but the problem is that if you were to hit any of the other groups, your own peers will jump all over you.

I've always believed stand up comedy was finite. There's only so many experiences one can share and means of expressing those experiences without stepping on the toes of another stand up comic. Politics aside. I think a lot of it is because these days blockbusters are all written for children/sois and are relatively lighthearted and comedic so people get their fill there.

The priority of most commercial products isn't so much to provide a service anymore, but rather to provide an echoing voice to the choir of progressivism.
