This is the reason Apple was able to steal or take ideas from Xerox, and then Microsoft was able to take those ideas from Apple.
Whoever was in charge didn’t want either brand to have too much of an advantage over the other.
With cell phones they fucked up with the Microsoft offering, and the earlier Nokia offerings.

There's three type of this commercials. The "Mac doesn't have virus" ads, the "Vista sucks" ads and the "satisfied customer" ads, and they're all written as an attack to the PC guy. "Mac" doesn't even try to sell you a Mac, it's just PC being silly and dumb. In a way, it's not honest advertising because it's not advertising, it's just a smug attack on PC to prove that Mac is superior, while showing no proof of this superiority. It's fucking disgusting but I'd like to see if it actually helped their sales or not.

Mac, being cool and laid back, mentions how glad he is to do that and forget about their rivalry, do something fun for a change, really nice little speech. Then he goes to turn on the tree's lights, something PC tries to avoid. Mac does it anyway and the lights on the tree spell "PC rules", portraying him as a petty miserable dude. The sheer irony of it all and the lack of self-awareness is hilarious.

It's always funny how Linux people get mad when you tell them this, but it's objectively true. My dad doesn't even know how to copy and paste, good luck getting him to open a terminal and run some command that even I have no understanding of.

I'm pretty tech savvy - I develop and I know my way around computer problem solving - but nearly every time I install Linux (usually Lubuntu or Mint) on an old computer, I inevitably run into some stupid issue (audio way too loud, can't change the wallpaper, can't install Chromium, wifi dropping) that I have to spend hours searching for some obscure command line fix until I throw my hands in the air and go back to whatever OS I was using before. If you can get it working, Linux is great for breathing life into an old secondary computer (or as a server) but I couldn't even imagine using it on a daily driver for everyday use as a layman.
