Rings started out so promisingly. The idea that the video was a documented phenomenon and some asshole professor was using undergrad students to study the effects was really compelling. Sadako being more of a force of nature/secondary antagonist, while the true villain was the prof who was literally killing people to figure out the extents/specifics of the tape's power (how do timezones impact the 7 day limit? can she kill without a TV? In a church/other consecrated area? Can the cursed try and fight back with weaponry? How does suicide impact the curse? etc...) while pretending to be helpful and concerned would be fascinating.

Then they just did a shittier retread of the original instead and dumped any semblance of an original narrative.

Call it autismo, but this ruined the movies for me, the rule of "dont go inside the house if you dont want to die of ghost rape" was well defined before, but her teleporting people inside the house just broke any fun the story had, its like she was a little kid playing a game and going "nuh huh, even if your character refuses to go inside the house because he has 99 INT, i can just teleport him inside the house anyway, I win!".

Depends on the season. He'd have trouble during the first four seasons or so, but once he starts chilling with angels, then a simple yurei is probably not going to pose a threat.
