Both. But which one first Yea Forums? Which makes for a better first movie and a better conclusion

The hero of canton (checked)

Apocalypse Now is aesthetic as fuck and somewhat dreamlike whereas FMJ has a hilarious first half and entertaining as hell second half.
Personally I'd watch FMJ first, then Apocalypse Now

watch full metal jacket first so when you watch apocalypse now you realize how much better it is
if you watch in the reverse order full metal jacket will just feel like a let down

Reminder that the second half of full metal jacket is the biggest pleb filter of all time.

I'll put it this way, you can go your whole life without needing to see Full Metal Jacket, but you have to see Apocalypse Now

HE SAID THE N-WORD

Platoon

Apocalypse Now is one of the most overrated films of all time.

Both are the worst Vietnam war movies ever made. Guess Apocalypse Now isn't the worse of the two but you probably have the "Francis re-adds all the shit he probably should have left cut" edition so I'm not sure.
Add in the Deer Hunter and you have the holy trinity of shit Vietnam movies.

Tbh there's hardly any good shit on Vietnam, only movies with small scenes in the war like Forrest Gump

Actually an interesting observation. Stuff like Platoon is just melodrama despite a good cast.
Are Vietnam movies like the actual Vietnam War? A blackhole of resource of which no good came?

>malickfags

Platoon.

Anyway. Both are good at the end. Rest is filler.

So which vietnam movie you consider good?

What said, there really aren't any. We Were Soldiers is probably one of the best "actual" Vietnam war movies but even that is Patriot/Bravehear tier stupid. Stuff like Forrest Gump which have a small part set there are okay.
My personal favourite Vietnam films are probably Rambo (2008) and Tropic Thunder.

What Platoon instead

Imagine making the best Vietnam War film and not even setting it during the Vietnam War

Faggot

Yikes! Dilate my friend.

Full Metal Jacket was directed by a literal Nazi.
So that one obvs.

If you watch Apocalypse now, you will experience a seizure just because of the sheer boredom this movies produces.
Full metal jacket is kino though.

Apocalypse Now + Hearts of Darkness, then Full Metal Jacket.

Platoon sucks though. I don't care if Oliver Stone was there or not, the movie is fucking ass and tries too hard, just like most of his other work like Born on 4th of July etc. Scarface was his best work.

It won't, and they're two completely different films. Full Metal Jacket is brilliant, so is Apocalypse, so he can't go wrong either way.

>Scarface

What's wrong with Scarface? It's by far Stone's best work, only made better by De Palma in his prime.

I didn't know he wrote it. My bad.

Yeah, but the funny thing about it is that De Palma and him didn't really see eye to eye on some stuff and he'd tell the actors to do stuff in the way that didn't coincide with De Palma's vision, so he booted him off the set. But what I like the most about Scarface is that it doesn't suffer from the things that Stone's movies usually do, which is shoving the message in the most obnoxious way possible. It feels more organic and I loved the whole American dream gone wrong stuff the movie was going for.

Just want full metal jacket. Apocalypse now is literally the most overrated piece of crap in the history of cinema.

Rambo was in Burma, not Vietnam.
First Blood Part II was in Vietnam.

Correct.

>GET SOME

But the Robert Duvall scene with the helicopters might be my favorite scene of both movies.

CHARLIE DON'T SURF!

watch the first half of Full Metal Jacket then watch Apocalypse Now Redux for the ultimate Vietnam kino

Chad Apocalypse Now and Virgin Full Metal Jacket.

disagree
platoon is the most realistic depiction

yep

It most certainly is not, it's the most Hollywood film of the three. Like Coppola said during Cannes before showing his film, Apocalypse Now isn't about Vietnam, it is Vietnam and it shows. It captures the essence of that war much better than Platoon ever will, despite Stone being there.
