As a kid in the video store, I always thought Biollante looked like a fucking sun or some shit

How about this

This movie was way better than 2014

King Kong Escapes was true kino. It was quite unusual for the human story to be not only tolerable, but good.

The monster action was better, the human shit was far far worse. Overall Id say they are about equal when averaged out.

Ok, everyone in the thread. Do you care for humans in Godzilla movies?

I cried for her lads

None, that's why I was surprised to care for the human characters in King Kong Escapes

Better monster shit. The human stuff got annoying.

The 30 minutes with Cranston was better. The hour and a half with Aaron Taylor Johnson was far worse and much more boring than the human story in KOTM.

Tbh it’s nice when the humans are actually tolerable.
In terms of the legendary films, I prefer the humans in KOTM over 2014

No it was way worse. Especially the monster action was abysmal. Just because it's bigger and there's more doesn't mean it's better.

Alright guys, post your favorites

Shit taste
The monster action in KOTM was actually exciting.
In 2014 you can’t see shit

Cumbrainzilla

Human action was way better. The dad, his daughter and the Mothra Fairies were way better than boring soldier boy in 2014

Shin Godzilla since it plays everything very straight-forward, though still is a very intriguing politlcal-drama.

Mothra's "roar" was badass

>Humanoid garbage
Trash

I really liked King of the Monsters and it was a vast improvement over 2014. The "characters were bad" criticism didn't even hold much water, since I actually gave a modicum of a shit about them, which I can't say for 2014.

How was Shin Godzilla so KINO? It’s like the original with modern fx, yet still manages to tell its own unique story

Attached: A4E39F89-8EA4-4797-84A3-8E79B2AECC85.png (500x499, 411K)

I legitimately liked the human characters in Shin Godzilla. Shifting the angle to the government officials again was refreshing and it made you feel for the protagonists, since they weren't just scared, but felt responsible for the damage Godzilla was doing.
I also liked the goofy-ass characters in Godzilla 98, and they're the main reason I liked that movie.

Shin Godzilla was really mediocre, don't understand the hype for it.

Anno being Anno.
It was also a sigh of fucking relief after 2014 turned out to be such a pile of shit.

Attached: D7OiqvtW0AEVze3.jpg (288x680, 48K)

Depends on the movie, Heisei usually has pretty entertaining human plots, Showa is most entertaining when it's campy Star Trek-ish sci-fi like Astro Monster and Mechagodzilla. Millenium also depends, I really liked 2000s human plot.

Overall, though. The original 1954 film and Godzilla 85 (American Cut) are the only ones where I am truly 100% invested in the human plot

Baby godzilla was spooky as shit and I'm not ashamed to say this. Imagine that fucking thing barrelling down toward you shooting fucking boiling blood everywhere.

Kong does way better at the box office and is more popular (Godzilla's name may be more popular but more normies have seen a Kong film that a Godzilla film)

shut up mexican

>the human shit was far far worse
This is absolute bullshit. The human shit wasn't good in KotM, but it was a huge improvement over fights getting cut so you could stare at kick-ass looking concerned and going from Point A to Point B for two hours.

Nice google translate spic.

For me, It's Shin Gor-Gor.

Attached: 4.jpg (1147x1600, 557K)

This.

I don't understand how people prefer 2014 over this, don't get me wrong I didn't hate it but come on, the pacing, the human plot, killing Bryan Cranston, the cockteases etc...

KOTM is definitely more rewatchable, the plot is kinda disappointing but the set pieces, the action scenes, Kaijus's design, the OST, everything is just far more better.

It's baffling me how "fans" are hating KOTM while this is probably the best Godzilla movie we got in years (Shin is overrated, deal with it)

Heisei posters are the best

Let's settle this once and for all: American Cut or Japanese Cut?

I actually prefer the American Cut, it especially improves the Super X battle by cutting out the long period where Godzilla was just standing there

There is no definitive right answer. Both have their own pros and cons. BOTH ARE GREAT!

Pros of the American edits...
> The added American score tracks from Def Con are great & fit with the original score basically seamlessly.
> The American opening credits are superior for building seriously ominous mood.
> Burr's presence gives a nice nostalgic connection to the original film. His final speech is iconic and effective.
> The American military personnel while a little campy don't go too far & it gives a glimpse at the rest of the world's reaction to these events.
> A few poor special effects shots involving the Cybot are removed.
Most importantly...
> The editing of the build up to the missile collision is vastly superior in the American cut. In the Japanese cut they cut away from the countdown at the last minute & then return to it as a after thought destroying the suspense of the scene.

Cons of the American edits...
> A cool artful shot of Godzilla reflected in windows is removed.
> Reversal of the Soviet's intentions (I personally don't care about this at all it works fine ether way)
> Nitpick - Coke product placement

Do I need to have seen the american cut of the first Godzilla to get 85's american cut or can I watch it just fine?

Where can I find the American Cut anyways? All the torrents have the japanese version

No tariffs on Japanese imports

American cut has much better (i.e. more dynamic) editing while the Japanese version lumbers along. It also has beefier sound effects. I prefer 85 over ROTG.

Nightmarish taste.

Seriously, what makes it special? I know about the fucking fukushima metaphors and I don't fucking give a shit about them. Shin Godzilla was a poorly done monster flick with CGI that is only slightly better than an Asylum film

>That part where after the monsters bowed to him, Godzilla had an epic gamer moment and immediately declared for the destruction of the false state of Israel and sics his kaiju army on it.

Holy FUCK was Sam Raimi involved in the writing here?

Attached: 52f1f2e72f75dbe9eca44781fdb46785.jpg (700x1078, 200K)

Its not direly imperative but its definitely adds to the experience. The main character of the American cut of 54 played by Raymond Bur returns in the American cut of 85.

Its only ever been released on VHS. When they recently released the blu ray, they coukdnt get the rights to the 85 cut.

Give me a minute and I will share links.

why are you in this thread again?

Bros my normie friends finally wanna watch a japanese Godzilla movie but I have no clue which one I should show them. Showa series would most likely turn them off, Godzilla vs King Ghidorah would be good but it also has the weird terminator character.

Which movie should I show them first? Which gives the best first impression?

Attached: tenor[1].gif (220x220, 63K)

If you didn't notice: This is a Godzilla thread, not a Shin Godzilla thread

>Its only ever been released on VHS.
Has nobody tried restoring it? Considering all the autists on originaltrilogy and fanres, I refuse to believe not one tried to do it

GMK
Godzilla vs. Mothra
Biollante
Gojira
Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla(if they like this, show them Tokyo S.O.S.)
Godzilla vs. Destoroyah( Probably wait to show them this one
If they like a lot of action, show them final wars

The original, what else?

DESU, you're probably better off not trying it. The Godzilla movies are very niche and you have to grow up with them to appreciate them. watching them with normie friends will probably just be very awkward for you.

Vs Biollante

What are your thoughts on Final Wars

Attached: kp125.jpg (500x680, 188K)

Here is a HD reconstruction.
archive.org/details/Godzilla1985RedMenace

I started watching Godzilla when I was 16 and still loved them. It's really not a thing you have to grow up with

bump

Am I the only one who loved KotM and G14?

nope

Because it recaptures the soul of the franchise. The original soul. A metaphor for the anxieties of the time and a commentary on recent events; Nuclear war in the original and government mishandling of disasters in Shin

>When a poster is so kino that the higher ups didn't mind that their version of MechaGodzilla wasn't on the poster.

It's about on par with Godzilla's Revenge.

Return of Godzilla
Biollante
Anguirus
A tie between vs Biollante and Against Mechagodzilla

Godzilla Raids Again is the black sheep. Why?

Piss off, pleb faggot. Final Wars is the best in the series

Gigantis vs Angorus/Angillas/Anguinus/Anrillas/Anzilla.
Its also a huge tonal shift fromt he first but isnt quite the refined camp of later showa stuff.

Redmenace is probably one of the most based men on the internet. I love all his stuff

Seriously why do CGI monsters always look off to me? Even Shin Godzilla didn't look right

One thing that movies don't fully account for and will probably never be able to:
You can have perfect composition, rendering, modelling, lighting, EVERYTHING. The 3D model can blend seamlessly with the image when you insert it, and still there's one aspect you can never alter: ACTUAL dimensional space occupied. All 3D insertions are facsimiles of the real thing, flattened along with the film, but unless the shot itself is 100% 3D rendered and you can manipulate the full environment along with the object, you'll still only ever be copy-pasting onto an existing image.

We'll never have cameras that can capture 360 degrees of a focal point simultaneously, so we'll only ever be attempting to mimic what a giant monster on the horizon would actually look like, because that horizon will always be empty.

Attached: 1561611845421.png (375x309, 71K)

>Angirus

kek who cares about that brown noser?
where the fuck is ghidorah? also does anyone have a high quality webm of the pulse stomp?

Why the fuck are the heisei Blu-Rays so shit? Why do they all look so fucking washed out? Especially when it's so easy to fix, just look at pic related: Right is literally just the contrast slider in MPC-HC turned up to +52 and it looks way better. Who the fuck oversaw these releases?

Attached: Screenshot_183.jpg (1586x602, 120K)

Nope, strongly like both.
