It's a pretty simple plot.
A powerful alien intelligence destroys humanity to stripe earth of all it's recources.
The alien clones Tom cruise to oversee operations and to subdue the human survivors.
The second half of the film is forgettable, it should have just been the two humans trying to figure stuff out, the other human survivors were just annoying.
