There wasn't any noticeable drop in quality in the first 3 seasons, season 4 was only slightly worse. It wasn't until season5 when the show when full retard

it wasnt noticeable because the good parts of the show far outweighed the bad parts of it
but since the show now has 5 and a half shit seasons instead of only a half, the initially barely noticeable problems that could be swept under the rug at the time of s3 coming out have now grown into huge, world-, story- and characterbreaking flaws and inconsistencies
the quality drop can definitely be traced back to s3

I don't think the ending ruined rewatchability at all. The show was never about the fantasy for me. Seasons 1-4 have the best political and war drama I've ever seen. The show is really about interesting characters who make stupid decisions and have to pay for them.
