He was a ghost all along?

time is cyclical. Kubrick's The Shinning was just a premature commercial for Dark

You can check in but you can never leave.

How did no one understand the ending? When we first see jack he's already in the hotel. He's already been taken over by the spirit of the murderer. That's not what jack looks like, that's what the original murderer looks like. He's been possessed and we don't know this until the end when it shows the photograph.

The movie makes it seem like it takes place much later than 1921, also that there aren't anybody there but him and his family. But in the picture, it actually was set in 1921 and there were lots of people there. They were just "off-camera." It's kind of a twist ending.

fukkin magical

this will replay on a loop when we're on our deathbeds

I don't know how you couldn't get it. He became a part of the hotel after he died.

That's what I got, but reading this got a chuckle outta me

user they outright say in the movie he's always been there, it's not hard to understand.

So the idea is that in the every iteration you have a 50% chance of not existing and a 50% chance of existing. The issue with that is that it ignores discussions about personal identity which are strictly physicalist in nature, so if you are strictly a physicalist it is the case that identity is not something which is tagged on to a brain. It is not the case that when you go into a box you will find yousrelf alive alive half of the time and absolutely obliterated the other half. The reason for this is because consciousness is not a brain which is like a particle which has a persistent identity which moves as per newtonian mechanics. It is actually the case that consciousness is embodied in computations and these computations have all of their pieces distributed in different reference frames so they're already part of an eternal object. In which case you are that which experiences itself within that sum physical structure. So if I inserted a random experience into your stream of consciousness right now and then completely removed all trace memory of it you would not be able to tell the difference. And that is already the case that you only find yourself where you find yourself. So take for a moment to consider the fact that special relativity implies eternalism, and under eternalism the entire future already happened, the past already happened, everything is just there. So why do you find yourself 13.8 billion years after the big bang? Why do you find yourself as some particular person and not another person? The physicalist answer would be you do actually find yourself everywhere. Schrodinger's equation doesn't just apply to a cat in a box.
