art kino

People here rag on it, but its easily in the top ten percent of Godzilla movies. I went to see it 3 times, I liked it.

Mothra was my favorite in this movie. She lit up the sky despite the Ghidorah storms.

Yes

mine too, she & Godzilla were the good guys. That made my heart melt.

Godzilla's cry hurt my soul once Mothra died.

Human drama is shit. The first one's drama was better. The monster battle is the best among the new kaiju fights, about on par with Pacific Rim.

She laid an egg, it's alright.

IN HIM?!

I don't think so, but some official confirmed the egg.

They crammed a lot of set up for the closing credits. I am excited for Kong vs Godzilla if it's the last in the series.

It was awful, even the mindless action was bad. 2014 was an actual movie.

>I am excited for Kong vs Godzilla if it's the last in the series
Nope, there will be one more after that.

Really? With Ghidorah gone and some asshole monster taking on Kong and Godzilla next year, I assumed this story would be over.

>Ghidorah gone
Monarch bought at least one of his heads, they're gonna do some mecha stuff to him or something.

That wasn't Monarch that was the bad guy.

Didn't mean Monarch, whatever the bad gudys were named.

I'm a huge Godzilla fan since I was a child and actually liked the 2014 Godzilla. I was super hyped for KotM but didn't get a chance to see it in the cinema.
I watched it in hd 2 days ago and I was super disappointed. The plot was idiotic, the setting went too far down the sci-fi path and was simply not believable for me with all that tech and bases and stations all around the glob, the characters were uninteresting, and worst of all, the monster scenes were incredibly dull. I felt like I did after watching Man of Steel. I was super hyped but ultimately completely tricked by the trailer.
The monster battles were presented and orchestrated in the most terrible way possible. First of all they moved too quickly. In 2014 they were slow and lumbering but that made if feel like there's thousands of tons behind every move. Here everything felt quick and light. Then they didn't let the monsters shine properly. All the battles where intercut with human scenes every few seconds and from ground persepectives way too often. Also there were no battle related highlight moments for me like the first atomic breath scene or the breath kill from 2014. Nothing really epic or a moment that made me go "whoa!" or "awesome!".

I didn't like it at all.

Come on, mang. There's like 10 different villain monsters to use. Not to forget that monarch-developed Mechagodzilla would also make for a kino movie

Not completely, pretty good attempt and a good movie imo
using the actual 60's sound effects and Ifukube music motifs, bringing Godzilla's design closer to the classic ones was kino
Human characters were meh, not kino
Not using the actual Öyster cult song was not kino

>Nothing really epic or a moment that made me go "whoa!" or "awesome!".
Dear god, are you actually a capeshitter or something? This reads like something the sóyjack poster came up with, dear god

>Human characters were meh, not kino
Well, they rarely really are. The only Godzilla films with great human plots are 54 and Godzilla vs King Ghidorah, the rest are usually pretty eh

Well that's something I expect from a big budget Godzilla film. The one from 2014 delivered. This one sadly didn't.

>Titanosaurus and Mehcagodzilla in a new film
>Jet Jaguar/Anguirus teams up with Godzilla
kino

I can't be thrilled by a badass Mechagodzilla that isn't piloted by earth hating aliens.

Attached: Godzilla King of the Monsters.2.webm (1920x800, 2.99M)

I was under the impression that Monarch was a relatively small agency that simply documented the titans and cooperated with the US military when necessary as we saw in Godzilla 2014 and Kong, but I guess now they have literally billions of dollars and operate completely on their own with military level equipment, vehicles and bases all over the world. They turned this small interesting secret organization into Iron Man Inc.

>The one from 2014 delivered.
Yes, but the rest of 2014 was so fucking terrible that it didn't really matter.
KOTM I actually had fun watching, 2014 was unironically one of the most boring fucking movies I have ever seen, it looked dull, the writing was terrible and anytime it gets even a bit exciting, they cut back to the humans doing fucking nothing.
KOTM was flawed but it was entertaining and had some kino cinematography

Yes

This looks so bad. They look like they are tiny based on lack of size references as well as being just too fast. Something the size of Ghidora flapping its wings should look like its slowmo just to properly convey its size and mass.

I preferred the more down to earth plot of the 2014 one. KotM is too much techbased globeskipping adventure for me. And in the end it's the monster stuff that counts most for me and here KotM simply disapponted me.

We just have different opinions here.

Dear god it's a fucking godzilla movie why the fuck are you only now getting autistic about the tiny details? No, they don't look small and I couldn't give a fuck about the wings not flapping slow enough. There's this thing called "suspension of disbelief".

Well, personally my favorite godzilla movies are the sci-fi techy ones, Invasion of Astro Monster, Godzilla vs King Ghidorah, Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla II, etc
I love the series most when they go all out on the sci-fi.

I agree, the lack of weight on them is a pity, then again I've been spoiled by NGE

What does it matter from what movie it is? It doesn't look right for what it's supposed to be. And what do you mean "only now"? It bothered me from the moment I saw it because it looks terrible. If you didn't know how big they were Ghidora might as well be the size of one of the dragons from Game of Thrones. They could have at least had a couple fighter jets flying around shooting at it just so we have a size reference in this shot.

>love Shin Gojira
>also love KoTM
feels good not being a pleb

right on

Same here. I can enjoy both for what they’re worth.

>Also there were no battle related highlight moments for me
Ghidorah pushing Godzilla into the hole in antarctica
Rodan vs. airforce
Godzilla dunking Ghidorah in the ocean
Ghidorah growing his head back on the volcano
Ghidorah in DC
Mothra webbing Ghidorah and Godzilla body slamming him through the building
Ghidorah power-up overload
Godzilla melting everything in his path

that's off the top of my head from seeing it once on opening day

>Rodan vs. airforce
fuck my dick is still hard

Godzilla is forever a badass dinosaur

>What does it matter from what movie it is?
For some movies you need to suspend your disbelief more than others, some movies are grounded in reality and some aren't, Godzilla is the latter.
>It doesn't look right for what it's supposed to be
It does, stop being autistic.
>If you didn't know how big they were Ghidora might as well be the size of one of the dragons from Game of Thrones.
Yes, but you already fucking know how big they are. You wouldn't have even seen this shot if you didn't because it was already previously established in the fucking movie you absolute braindead idiot.
> They could have at least had a couple fighter jets flying around shooting at it just so we have a size reference in this shot.
Yes, and add more clutter, fucking retard

>mfw went with my friends to an empty cinema
>mfw we could scream, yell, chant and laugh all we wanted

Attached: 1548217114228.jpg (5000x5000, 1.82M)

>Rodan vs. airforce
I'd watch an entire movie of that, pure fucking kino

You just named all or most of the monster scenes in the film. If you liked them that's great but they simply didn't do it for me. Nothing in the movie even approached the atomic breath scene from the 2014 one. To be honest there wasn't even a single atomic breath scene in KotM I thought was hype.

it's not about disbelief, user, a lot of mecha and giant monster movies keep a sense of weight and scale by showing the big boys going slow and taking their damn time to perform a simple action, so that you, the spectator, can grasp a sense of how massive these guys are, it's not about being picky but properly conceiving the size of something in a fight really elevates a scene

That's great.

Longtime Godzilla fan as well. The two biggest problems I had with 2014 were the pointless first act which doesn't give us any information and whose main plot beat (dead parent) is repeated half an hour later, and the general drabness of it. There's just not much in the way of visual inspiration. It's not that the direction or cinematography were bad, it's that the film had nothing interesting to show, and the final battle wasn't worth the wait.

For me, GKOTM rectified a lot of those problems but introduced a slew of new ones. Whereas 2014 had a lack of plot, GKTOM had too much of it. Overall though, I had more fun with KOTM than 2014.

I don't hate 2014, I just wouldn't watch it complete again, and honestly the only scene that gets me hyped is the atomic breath charging scene.

that sounds pretty gay out of context

>For some movies you need to suspend your disbelief more than others, some movies are grounded in reality and some aren't, Godzilla is the latter.
Never argued against that. It's just that the one from 2014 did it much better imo.
Sure we know their size, but I was talking about this particular shot. It simply looks awful. A few tiny jets in the frame wouldn't really clutter it up. And it's not like the shot could look any worse anyway.

Delete this bait

Yes, and godzilla threads are consistently comfy on Yea Forums

>the only scene that gets me hyped is the atomic breath charging scene.
I am the same I think, but that's at least one more scene than KotM. I also think all the monster vs monters action was better done in 2014 mostly because the physics in KotM are so off.

>directed by Zack Snyder

After skull island confirmed the existence of titans it's likely that they were expanded, post 2014 it likely continued

I don’t care what critics said; I liked it a lot. Easily in my top 10 favorite Godzilla movies. Bear KILLED it with the soundtrack

But the shot literally did not look terrible to any non-autist

2014 tried to be a serious movie and the tonal shift to a more Marvel-like movie in KotM is jarring. I understand why they did it(we want the Marvel audience, etc.), but it was poorly executed and unnecessary to boot, because the grim tone wasn't one of the complaints audiences had about 2014. They also spent way too much time trying to set up their extended kaiju universe, which didn't work because the rest of the movie was failing to make us care about its own plot and characters. Cinematic universes don't work anyway unless you have a good cast of actors who get the audience attached to them and carry over from movie to movie. The Legendary kaiju movies have not set that up so there is no reason for audiences to stick around if individual movies in the series drop the ball, as they inevitably will.

The pacing and editing of the monster scenes were pretty weird. Everything happens too fast, and so much happens between even very brief cutaways to the human characters that it feels like the scenes are missing chunks of footage. When I saw the 1 minute clip of the Antarctica scene that was going around in the weeks before release, the cuts were so jarring that I assumed a lot of material was being edited out to squeeze something coherent into the 1 minute runtime of the clip. Then I saw the full movie and was shocked to discover that was really how the movie was. The only explanation I can think of is that they were trying to pull a fast one and use weird editing tricks to make it look like there was more monster screentime than their really was, because 2014 got a lot of hate for not having enough monster time but KotM didn't really have the budget to truly rectify that issue.

Whose Kevin

How long was Rodan sleeping in the Volcano? Can't understand how the locals knew of him and named him

Attached: 1544981512576.png (308x456, 184K)

See the biggest issue I have here is why eco terrorists would use a mech when destroyah was set up with the oxygen destroyer. He is the perfect monster for them as a product of the natural world turned twisted and horrible by a man made weapon.

The left one.

I mean the monster fights were great. But jesus fuck the god awful himan subplot and the real downgrade with all the >avengers tier cgi screens. Me thinks execs watered it down for china pandering

This was one of the weaker scenes. I laughed.

I watched King Kong Escapes yesterday with my son, absolute kino. Then we did a marathon for the Mothra trilogy; tomorrow we will watch KOTM, pretty excited.

Its not hers.

It's not that jarring considering Kong Skull Island also went with a Marvel tone and really started going nuts with the wacky sci-fi concepts like the plant/animal hybrids and Hollow Earth theories.

Watched it for first time last night. I enjoyed it more then Godzilla 2014.
Few things I thought were retarded tho.
>Why such a massive technological jump in 5 years from the last movie? That stealth fighter jet was so massive it was hard to take seriously.
>The journalist seemed so happy to be reporting on multiple cities being smashed up and thousands of people dying. That was such poor acting in that scene.
>"Hurrr lets kill all the human race because this planet belongs to the titans. Fuck my kids future and shit" (Altho with the way modern white people are, its hardly surprising)
>Muh Climate Change
>Pushing a narrative that Godzilla is going to one day turn on the humans. Why would he ?The last 2 movies all he has done is fight on their behalf.
>Too much human bullshit going on. And why did they kill the based Jap guy. Cant one of those useless American soldiers detonate the nuke instead of him.

Ghidoras not gone. Charles Dance's character buys one Ghidora's charred heads.
My guess is they build Mecha Ghidora or some how it restores its body like it did on the volcano in Mexico after Godzilla ripped one its heads off.

Pretty standard mindless modern summer blockbuster, elevated only by the pretty great monster fight scenes. I mean, if you watched these movies as a kid and didn't have a huge smile on your face during all the monster action you're just dead inside. Wish they had let Vogt-Roberts direct it, Kong's was legit good and clever and weird, in the best possible way.

Based Kevin. Our boy had so much potential.

>when you realise that the only thing left of Ghidorah is him

Attached: images.jpg (253x199, 12K)

I like how Charles Dance got literally everything he was after and suffered no negative repercussions

watched it last night
there was some cool visuals and parts of action sequences, but other than that it sucked
took way too long to get to where it wanted to go and there were so many shitty cliches, and having so many characters didn't help either

Attached: Godzilla King of the Monsters.6.webm (1920x800, 2.99M)

I agree. I blame the constant 2 second jump cuts.

I absolutely loved it

>Charizard used Seismic-Toss!!

very kino

The special effects in this movie were so unimpressive. This would have been a decent looking movie in the pre-LotR era, but it already looks cheap. They also deserve a special technical Razzie for sound editing.

All of the human acting is is of course sub-Syfy tier garbage for Chink consumption. The "plot" is right about Syfy quality. This scene here looks like something out of a Studio Theme park ride.

Skull Island>>Godzilla 2014>>>King of the Monsters. I have little hope for Zilla vs Kong.

Best scene was when Rodan woke up and wiped out that Spic city.
Also when Ghidora flew back to the same volcano and woke up all the other titans with its call.

Movie had really good music in parts too. Anyone know who the composer was?

Bear mccreary

Charles Dance got a nice paycheck for just sitting around in this movie and doing basically nothing.
The closest thing he has to a memorable scene is being treated like shit by the daughter.
