This movie is interesting, a water marker in against where Hollywood and Rogen types want American culture to go and where Americans are shirking and rejecting it and beginning to wonder. There's a review on Deadline calling this movie "heartwarming" and it's so desperate and repressed, you can tell the reviewer can't recognize exactly what I'm saying.

It's very difficult to specify the line of comedy, but this movie has a very neurotic, dark, impulsive creative subtext that is not sourced from a sincere place. Using child actors in sexual scenes to play a game of "low culture" limbo, this is grown adult males snickering not because it's funny, but because they can get away with releasing this all over America. It's different from Superbad or Knocked Up, although those movies have aged terribly now that the eager layers of press hype finally faded and peeled off.

Does this movie have any shot at crossing $10 million? I'd be shocked and $5 million could be reality. The media will soon it as "comedies continue to have trouble at box office, why?! Is it the political atmosphere?" No, it's deeper. It's a human atmosphere. You have a unprecedented Jewish sex trafficker of underage girls all over the news who was a reported Israeli asset, and you have a shocking R-rated sex comedy starring children, the entire "gag," completely written, directed and produced by Israeli-Americans. A line is being drawn.

I agree with you, but not your example. The Lion King remake is soulless trash but it unironically will play an indirect role in Good Boys bombing this weekend. These Disney remakes are hitting big because childless millennials want comfort and a "diversity" star. But the movie's Beyonce single didn't catch on. It was too calculated and blacks said as much. Disney is also Jewish owned, and they are pushing for corporate sanitization because then their content has no barrier for entry in every global market, including Saudi Arabia which is investing billions into US movie industry.

Again, that's how complex the culture battleground is. Disney's terraforming "family content" and then Seth Rogen's friends keep pushing "edgy" low culture that is now out to pasture. But one hand rubs the other, longterm. There's little room for quality original content without agendas, that's simply American made. And then you have The Boys on Amazon, which has its edgy subversive points, but kept in check, and is pretty great. That's also Rogen's people, but an anomaly unlike Preacher, Long Shot, Night Before, Sausage Party and this Good Boys disgrace.
