Yes

nobody here lived in NYC in the 70s. This board is for zoomers who love marvel.

Probably worse.
It was legendarily bad until the 90s.

Yes
t. born in 1997 and have never stepped foot in New York City

Yes, until Giuliani fixed them up.

Travis is literally me.

Even worse. It was Escape from New York shit. America truly is a third world country pretending to be first world. Even now if you leave Manhattan you're almost guaranteed to get mugged or killed for your sneakers. Americans are animals.

the murder rate peaked in 1990 at 2245. Last year it was a mere 289.

It's first world in the same way South Africa is first world

>Even now if you leave Manhattan you're almost guaranteed to get mugged or killed for your sneakers.
What kind of savage is doing this?

25 years, no change. I read somewhere that Americans hate change because that would require admitting that the old way of doing thing wasn't the best.

I would hate to fucking die over sneakers.

>shithole
Looks better than my city in 2019.

I grew up in Manhattan during the 80s. My parents never got mugged because they didn't go outside after 8PM and do stupid shit like jogging in Central Park.

>New York is safe! ...if you stay behind locked doors and take shifts guarding the door while clutching a shotgun

From which City are you user?

new delhi

Very much. My dad used to tell me that if you didn’t give money to people who randomly washed you windows, they’d break it and run off.
Times Square was full of bums and hookers. There was even porno theaters.

Holy Shit!!

this please don't come to the U.S. it's horrible

Yes.

Everything was crumbling, grimy, dirty, trash everywhere, stripped cars just abandoned, and the city was broke so they wouldn't tow them, pollution was WAY worse. That's the part you can't really get across on film, is how dirty everything was - the whole city was covered in a film of grime. The streets were torn up, potholes everywhere.

Taxi Driver was kind of accurate, Serpico was closer. SF and LA weren't any better, to be honest.

mom grew up in east Flatbush, brooklyn in the 70s and 80s. it was just as dirty and seedy as shown in taxi driver, you had areas that looked like bombed out Dresden and the cab drivers would rarely be ready to drive her all the way home. she's happy its safer now but she misses the adrenaline rush that you got every day - baudrillard said that New York is the "end of the world show" when he visited it in the 80s, Im inclined to agree

There's a reason why apartments in the city had 6 chain locks on the door, and often multiple deadbolts. I was a kid in the 70's, but we used to visit family in NYC every summer. My cousins grew up in it, so knew how to get around, and knew what areas to avoid - and to not be on the street after dark. You'd hang out on the stoop, so you could get inside if any shit started.

Is it true that 42nd Street was primarily known for pornography and homosexuality? What span of decades did it exist like that? What is it like over there, now?

>Americans
I'm sure there are no visually distinctive, purely coincidental correlations about the Americans in question

Times Square was all strip clubs and whores on the street - we got stuck in traffic there, I was like 12, and saw my first tits, because a whore was flashing the cars. Gays were always down in the Village, my aunt lived there, and the two upstairs apartments in her brownstone were gay male couples, first time I saw that shit, too. We used to walk around the Village later on, when I was older, to go check out the wierd bookstores (occult mostly) and tattoo parlors and used record stores. You'd get someone trying to sell you a joint or pretty much anything every 10 feet.

NYC has been Disneyland since the late 80's. Most of it's gone, the old stripclubs and whorehouses and peepshows are all Poptarts and Lego stores now. It's completely different.

Oh hell yeah. Even Seattle was essentially a third world cesspool in the 70s.

>I'm sure there are no visually distinctive, purely coincidental correlations about the Americans in question
Yes user, we know that it's mostly niggers and spics that are doing it. We don't really hear of Asians or Whites doing this kind of thing.

Killing a person for stupid reasons? Sure not as much as blacks but you would be surprised what kinda shit goes down in white trash area.

>Sure not as much as blacks but you would be surprised what kinda shit goes down in white trash area.
Haven't really seen a white trash area myself but I'm sure shit happens there too. I live in Houston (so probably not as bad as New York) and the shit I see is mainly by the aforementioned niggers and spics with the occasionally white guy.

does it matter? an american is an american

Read that with a lot of interest. You've still got it, Yea Forums.

rural crime especially is fucking *weird*

70s new york really had real life kinos. How did went from Americas asshole to capital of the world?

N

Rudy Guiliani. The city was cleaning up on their own, when the "Master of the Universe" wealth starting rolling in, with the deregulation by the Reagan administration and banks and investment houses booming. And, everyone was fed up with Koch and Dinkins not doing shit, so Rudy was elected and he cleaned up the city in a serious way in the 90's.

Maybe because it was always America's most important city and your perception of it merely changed?

Of course, cleaning up the pollution and taking out the mobs in the 90s did help.

It was way worse. It was peak dystopia, especially for a "first world" country. The electrical grid was barely working. Water didn't work. Essentially any infrastructure was in a state of beyond repair because of city debt. They stopped garbage collection so it literally just piled up anywhere there was room.
That's just a single aspect of the city. We won't even go into its gang culture and murder or its police department which was corrupt from the top down.

>or its police department which was corrupt from the top down.
>which was
>was

The Head of their police visited Epstein's island.

This. It wasn't so much guiliani as it was the deregulation of the 80's. Wall Street and the yuppies therein basically revived a dead city. The city was in so much debt that the banks stopped offering them loans because it was a worthless endeavor to do so, as there was no saving grace. Not until the wall street boom did the city earn something that banks were willing to bet on did they start getting loans again to start functioning and were able to start paying things off.

London is surprisingly still more important than nyc, much to the mutts despair

Just because of the financial sector

Londonistan is governed by Paki mudslime
