Masterpiece

>Where does it rank in Lynch's filmography?

#1 or 2

I was going to see it today, but I didn’t find it online. So I watched another film. Is it worth watching, Yea Forums?

I'M STEVE MCQUEEN

Yes

Is it in HBO or any streaming service?

once I found out its essentially a television pilot with an ending tagged on my appreciation for it dropped dramatically

do you even know what the word pretentious means? This board is pseud central

I have zero idea. I torrented it.

Why is that? He shot like an hour of material for the film.
Yes.

Literal garbage. The only other things worse were Inland Empire and Twin Peaks. Funny enough, my entire family thought they all sucked and we were completely unaware they were made by the same person. Only after we were making bets on how low of a rating Inland Empire got did we discover Lynch made those other two pieces of shit. No one thought Inland Empire would have gotten above 3.5 stars out of 10 but low and behold the pretentious idiots gave it something like 7.9.

literally everyone uses pretentious incorrectly and it pisses me off. If you don't think something has artistic merit then explain why.

how does that even remotely change anything

this.

there's nothing pretentious OP. if you want a pretentious movie, watch the fountain. mulholland drive is a puzzle but it mostly makes sense. the theme is dreams, and i think it's the best movie about that theme.

Pretentious masterpiece. Just like all Lynch shit.

OP here. I agree with you, i used it as a hyperbole to get more replies.
So what's wrong with it?

>there's nothing pretentious OP

Dude, nothing is more pretentious than a Lynch movie. They're all just gimmicks.
>this movie is cut together from two movies where the same actors pkay different characters!
>in this movie the entire first half is a dream sequence!
>in this movie I'm huffing my own farts again

we are lucky as fuck that it go turned down as a pilot.

the ending is what Lynch always meant the true story to be in any case.

The story is quite simple what's pretentious about telling a simple story in a different more interesting way?

all of the mysterious bits and the plotlines that go nowhere are only like that because it was the beginning of a story, not because lynch conceived them to be stand alone mysteries like that. it took away from it a lot to find that out

I very much get the impression that the real reason Lynch makes all his work so fucking weird is that he literally does not understand storytelling, only visuals and style.

>this movie is cut together from two movies where the same actors pkay different characters!

Lost Highway is two versions of the love triangle: from inside and outside a marriage, but with the twist that the protagonist of one literally changes into the other. it's not a gimmick, it's actually a very clever idea, the common theme being jealousy represented by the Mystery Man.

he is a totally intuitive writer but that doesn't mean his work always lacks internal logic.

I've never finished it, the whole thing pretends like there's a great mystery and suspense but its boring as shit so who cares

only literal chimp-brain redditor pseuds waste enough of their time to watch this movie and then pretend that they liked it

Attached: 1502155159849.jpg (541x633, 40K)

Well, i don't think that takes anything from the film. The film works and i think it has a logic, the mysteries don't seem incomprehensible and random.

It's not really that weird, i think he actually understands storytelling more than 99% of writers/directors. His films are like a puzzle with internal thematic and storytelling logic.

Your family should be removed from the gene pool.

There's not a drop of pretense in the man. Stop misusing that word. Calling Lynch pretentious is honestly the most retarded thing you could possibly say about him. Just say you don't like him or something and leave it at that.

Why does it not surprise me that you added GoT picture to your post.

It's great.

It's probably the best film ever made.

It’ll probably be in the movie section if you’d library if you’re near a decent sized one.

Pretentious has only ever meant "I don't get it and this threatens my manhood"

First half is a masterpiece
Second half is pretentious trash

>>there's nothing pretentious
>duct tape a bunch of random scenes that explain nothing about the plot and with no connection between each other
>people who watched this retarded 'movie' are still trying to find the sense of it all 15 years later
>B-but David Lynch made it so it's good!

seething

Pseud trash. Who could possibly think on the nose hamfisted metaphors and symbolism would be considered high art? Real filmmaking is about subtlety.

The film does make sense, so what the fuck are you even rambling about?

Give example of real filmmaking.

im about to watch it

what am i in for

YMS please go

foggy hollywood, hazed detachment, beauty and deception
that's how I describe mulholland dr

>801 MiB
Are you fucking kidding me?

CinemaSins tier response, anything artsy is not pretentious, go watch Saving Private Ryan

How did you even stumble upon Inland Empire and decide to watch it without realizing it was Lynch? You sound like literal NPCs.

>Sure would like to thank you for coming all the way to see me from that fancy hotel downtown

Attached: cowboy.png (880x471, 155K)

>he watches movies on his fucking phone
GET REAL

>metaphors
>symbolism
Get a load of this retard

I like how this movie in particular feels like it has the budget of a direct to tv movie, where everyone is pale and bloomed to fuck, and even real locations feel like cheap sets
it makes it even more engaging, like you're watching something forgotten from after hours tv from years ago

>guy who made Elephant Man and Straight Story doesn't understand storytelling

Maybe speculation but I could see that being deliberate by Lynch. To make it feel like a kind of rustic old-fashion filmed noir.

I feel like most people who seethe over Lynch are simply carried away by the hype he has and forget to have an open mind about his stuff, leading to misconceptions about his works
akin to a kid tasting beer for the first time and finding it horrible because he's expecting the same thing he expects from the soda he drinks, and then oblivious to why so many people drink beer he just gets mad for no reason

Masterpiece, it was a fun experience to watch the movie, because that is what made it great, that you constantly tries to figure out what is going on, the narrative and how it all is connected. It worked really well with these slow scenes where nothing major happens.

Most of these types of art, that is intended to bring the viewer in a particular state, fails. Often they just pander to infantile emotions, like disgust, sex or confusion where they introduce random shit for the sake of randomness.

i'm completely sure it's deliberate, the movie feels very much like a cheap porno from the 80s at times, or a mediocre american day time soap
you can notice how uninspired and bland, almost cliche most of the shots are, there's no effort to make the shots appealing whatsoever (appealing in the sense of the modern way to film things). also notice how the dialogue itself is either too loud compared to the b.g, almost makes it feel like it's dubbed
all these things put together make the movie feel hazy and dreamlike, like you're watching things unfold like you would in a dream, unable to change any of it even if you wanted to

>the theme is dreams
How insightful

Pretty good, but I'm more of the Lost Highway guy

Try www.yts.com

Yes you are truly retarded

I think the film is pretty visually appealing actually. Some shots are really nice and well done.
Me too.

No Country for Old Men
There Will Be Blood
Taxi Driver
Manchester by the Sea
The Good the Bad and the Ugly
Apocalypse Now

To me it feels invocative of the underbelly of Hollywood, like it's the dressed-down, hidden-side of it. The entire story feels less like a movie and more like you're watching things from the perspective of the people bewildered by the events transpiring. Something about abandoning convention of film making made it feel more natural in a way.

Nice imdb top 250 list you got there. Some of those films also have very unsubtle symbolism.

Well yeah, Mulholland was meant to be a TV show originally.
Then they canned it and Lynch put together a movie with the footage they already had.

He shot some additional footage with support of Canal+ i think. French liked the pilot so they financed the rest with the condition that it will be a feature.

>yify

That's a big yikes from me.

And all of them are superior to lynchshit.
>omg the baby's a monster oh lol that's because he's afraid of fatherhood hahaha wow so deep

Kino for the Camille Rhodes audition scene alone

No, they are not. You honestly sound completely retarded.

>Manchester by the Sea
I didn't even see Mulholland Drive, but Mancester is completely pretentious. Everything from the irrelevant choral music soundtrack to the faggot self-insert protagonist.

Says the person who completely misunderstood the point of Lynch's films.
Yes exactly like Straight Story, Elephant Man, Blue Velvet, Wild at Heart and Lost Highway. You are completely correct.

youtu.be/xtjiVTSs8pc

Mullholland Drive is like the opposite of a guilty pleasure for me, where you could say it's bad but you still like it.
It's a great movie and I hate it.

YOU LIKE PORNOS?

It and Wild at Heart are his worst

look at the top of his head!

I feel like that about Lost Highway. I don't enjoy it at all, yet I keep rewatching it. I don't "like" it, but it gets into my head.

You will see me two times, if you do bad.

Retards here will always be contrarian and disregard some of the greatest classics just to feel a bit superior somehow. Not sure how that works, but i do know they're all very special. Good taste user, nothing wrong with the movies you posted.

Attached: giphy (3).gif (400x243, 1.79M)

It really is the movie that gets the whole dream-like thing right.

is it because you fell asleep watching ?

That, and the disjointed plot. When you wake up from one dream, falls asleep and then dream something new and different that's still similar to your previous dream.

>cumbrain
>thinks his opinion matters even the slightest

lol

Lynched

I don't know that it's pretentious but it is overrated like all of Lynchs work
