We never had these problems in /StaTre/

I started to get into Trek and I am currently finishing TNG.
For whatever reason I decided to incorporate DS9 into my watching. TNG season 6 mix with DS9 in release order, dates as listed on Wikipedia. And I have to say it works quite good, TNG kinda helps to hide the mediocrity of early DS9. I'm continue to doing so with season 7 and 2.
If I have had watched the entirety of TNG and after that DS9 I might would have quit 10 episodes in.

user told me DS9 starts out shitty and I found my way to make it less shitty.

Quark's Bar is playing early DS9. Fall in, ensign.

skip the first season? maybe watch the very first episode then skip the rest?

Nah, I would have missed a few good Quark and Odo moments.

Early DS9 is so comfy, I think the series lost something when it went full Dominion War

I feel the same way about pre-Seven Voyager

>I think the series lost something when it went full Dominion War
To each his own, but I found the war to be the most interesting part. Star Trek about day to day gets old. The Federation can't be the most powerful entity in the galaxy, and any life outside of it can't, or shouldn't, always be peaceful. Skirmishes with Klingons or whatever is great and all, but at some point the conflict has to boil over, that's just the natural way of things when involving different ideologies.

>user told me DS9 starts out shitty and I found my way to make it less shitty.

I wouldnā€™t mind being pegged by Major Kira

Thanks.

>Major Kira
Do not understand what anons see in her. She's not that attractive. Cute, maybe, but there are thousands of better choices to be pegged by. Her voice and attitude are a huge turn off. Her basic personality isn't terrible, the military/rebel training and all that, but otherwise she's nothing special.

yikes

You don't need to watch the whole show to get it, either. Some things are mentioned from other episodes, but mostly the entire arc is self-contained. And with the last few seasons, it's pretty much the majority of the episodes.

Fuck off, VF

I might understand Mirror Kira, but base Kira? lol. Mirror Ezri is where it's at, too.

Mirror Ezri was too much of a tryhard cunt.

That cute little dyke haircut, her leather outfit and the sexual undertones, especially with mirror kira, make up for her lack of experience on the show. Also blame Jadzia for leaving so close to the end that they had to replace her with hardly any time left for ezri to fit in... and speaking of forced, jadzia and worf was cringy. Her leaving was arguably a good thing because she sucked and dragged down the show with her shit.

But they gave you a bad list. It's not a list of good episodes, it's a list of episodes which are """important""" for the """plot""". So you'll be missing out on good episodes if you trust that list. Be sure to throw that list in the trash and then watch the whole thing.

Post a selfie, Vee. Everyone knows you're a dyke roastie.

If a show is so insufferable to you that you can't get through a whole season, why are you even watching it?

Calm down, at least he's not watching at 2x speed while composing love poems for BF, like some people.

Despite being a futuristic setting, DS9 is on the fringe and outside the peace loving utopia of the Federation, and outside the Federation, people use money. Finding a job may not be easy, especially with all these different races with their different specialties being preferred over others, and then in some cases, like the Dabo girls, they may just not be smart enough to do anything else... which is not necessarily a bad thing. Also, most his employees were Ferengi, and all they care about is money. They recognize the abuse as Quark's legitimate right under their culture and laws.

Steven Ira Behr said on that new ds9 documentary that he wished he had garak come out as gay to Julian.
SIB is a fucking cunt with no self awareness or respect for trek.

Being homophobic seems pretty lacking in self awareness considering how much of a faggot you are

I'm actually gay. I just dislike how SIB is trying to retcon my favorite character for sjw points.

I'm gay too. I was just shitposting to bump the thread.

I don't know if it was entirely for sjw points since there were definite sexual undertones in the relationship between Garak and Bashir. Retroactively claiming it was an intentional plotline and not something elaborated upon through the actors' performances is JK Rowling levels of desperate, though. A lot of the documentary was a celebration of what fans loved so it was built to be seen through an intentionally rose-tinted lens. It doesn't really matter anyway, no one cares about What We Left Behind.

That's because jews doing jew things is boring.

Though speaking openly mass media mergers are crimes against capitalism.

Attached: SexiestWomen.png (1423x1904, 1.65M)

Who has faith in the brand to be anything but shit in this point? Best case scenario is that it leads to total creative shakeup dislodging the dipshits like Kurzman who currently handle the franchise, but if the past is any guide, we are just as likely to get some other shithead like Braga or Abrams. Star Trek hasn't done anything worthwhile or interesting in 20 years.

Bisexuals don't like to take shit from anyone either.

Attached: Be cool.gif (498x239, 976K)

You can google it. Its a sport liked by rednecks.

Rednecks get drunk and chain themselves to farm equipment then see how far/fast they can pull it. Sometimes they do it as a race.

Tell me. I know you know what it means or you wouldn't have said it.

Because he got bored of being a producer and tried to control the writers. Berman was always a goddamn atrocious writer, like bottom of the fucking barrel. All you need to do is watch Enterprise to understand that.

What was ever so special about Berman? He was literally handed the goose that laid the golden egg when Roddenberry died. His only "accomplishment" is killing it slowly instead of right away.

Attached: 1557429451066.jpg (500x377, 135K)

Attached: stf.png (1500x500, 655K)

I'd say that Bashir is gay so far as he was desperate for people to like him, desperate for acceptance, and the acknowledgment of his accomplishments. He seemed eager to accept that appreciation in any form it came, from any one.

Nothing about the merger matters if Kurtzman retains the stewardship of the franchise. Nothing.

>desperate for acceptance, and the acknowledgment of his accomplishments.
Don't think that's right. Considering how much he hated the fact that his parents did that to him and always had an inferiority complex associated with it, his drive to prove how smart he was wasn't because he was desperate, it was just because he was a gene-built narcissist.

How many tractors can the Aluminum Foil pull?

Remember when Trekkie229 was the worst thing to happen to /trek/?

Ever notice how Garak becomes more honest and open with people and eventually embraces the Federation and the Federstion embraces him and his tactics and then in the EU that I read exactly two books from he becomes an Ambassador after the war ends and Julian goes from being open and idea and then its revealed he was lying thr whole time and he eventually becomes involved in Section 31?

It's like pottery.

It rhymes.

Attached: 0C1F82EE-C5DC-44AA-B50A-5FBCAD874C14.jpg (259x194, 5K)

Possibly. Just because he was genetically predisposed towards narcissism doesn't mean he didn't also crave the approval of his peers. Narcissistic or not, he still clearly wanted validation from his Starfleet colleagues. In the pilot, he says that the only reason he came out to the frontier was to make a name for himself, after all. Bashir clearly felt like he had something to prove.

I am a simple man. I see Picard, I like.

Why is /trek/ obsessed with posters who aren't even active anymore?

That's going to be a dangerous strategy in the days to come, user.

You are too small brain and Bajoran to understand the absolute meme of the madman Dukat actually going and fucking the pope when that probably wasn't even even a part of his original plan.

>probably wasn't even even a part of his original plan.

of course

>was to make a name for himself
Which is funny considering he didn't want the recognition from Starfleet when his name was put up for that medical reward, so I don't think that's right either.
I was suddenly reminded of this scene from The Wire when I thought about this;
youtube.com/watch?v=MFg4bhBV7pk
Bashir and McNulty are alike, but for different reasons. McNulty had his problems because he was constantly surrounded by morons, whereas Bashir inherently knows he is the smartest person in the room because of his gene mods, and yet he had to hide it for so long. And this is kind of the problem with Star Treks views on gene modding to begin with considering Khan and all that and why it was banned, but Bashir is treading the line of being morally upright because of his past experiences, but struggling with the fact that he knows he's the smartest fuck in the room, it wasn't earned, but he thinks he always knows what the outcome will be regardless, which is kind of explained in that one episode with the 4 other gene mod weirdos he connects with.
Anyway, not sure where I'm really going with this anymore, but I don't think Bashir is desperate for approval or anything like that, and while he might say he wanted recognition, he really doesn't because that goes against his upbringing and trying to hide his status for so long. He's just cocksure and full of himself. That's really it.

> "These are all the episodes, more or less, that mention the Dominion."

You ought to be ashamed of yourself.

kys faggot

You're opening up a whole other can of worms with McNulty, there. I tend to think he was desperate for approval too, as evidenced by the whole 'serial killer' thing he had going on during the last season. I don't think we should get into it that much in this thread, though, considering it could get derailed. 10/10 show, though, the Wire.

Going back to Bashir, little hiccups and weird left turns in every character's story can be expected in Star Trek due to its episodic nature where episodes are often driven by a specific writer, or team of writers' ideas. Even DS9 which is more serialized suffers from the occasional inconsistencies. Ultimately, a character's story up to the point an episode is written is only as important as it is to the writer penning the next one. I always felt the whole genetic engineering thing felt a little tacked on, to be honest, even though it certainly added more complexity to the character.

It should be ashamed of being so boring

Attached: Jeri.jpg (777x437, 70K)

Whatever the case, I'm just saying I don't think he was desperate, he was just insecure and that manifested his tendency to be extremely confident in his abilities, ie a narcissist. He wasn't unstable about it though like narcissists tend to be, he just knew his abilities were well beyond the norm and wasn't afraid to point that out once his situation was revealed to Sisko. That's the point I'm trying to make; it wasn't about desperation, he just had free reign to display it every time and it was used as a plot device, which in turn made him out to be as excessively confident, not desperate.

I see Data, I like

Attached: dater.jpg (1203x1080, 640K)

Yeah, you might be right about that. You've made some good points. Good discussion, user. Always a pleasure to actually talk about Trek in these fucking threads.

Heh, thing I was referencing The Wire scene about was the "addicted to himself", "it's not his fault" and the "smartest fuck in the room" things. But yeah, Jimmy had problems not at all related to Bashir, but their upbringing has similarities which is why I was reminded about that scene.

Do normal people not consider themselves the smartest fuck in the room?

Ready for Star Trek to grow to rival Marvel?

Again, doesn't matter at all as long as Kurtzman holds the reins.

Holy fuckin christ this footage

Why do you think that your opinion matters?

Attached: vlcsnap-2019-08-13-18h07m58s953.png (1920x1080, 1.98M)

Star Trek still carries the stigma of being a nerd series. Most of us spend a large portion of our lives living through a computer screen so it feels normal to discuss Trek in length and detail, but if you mention Trek to your friends or co-workers you're immediately branded a turbo geek. There is no way Trek will ever be "cool" again unless by some miracle there's another space initiative which galvanizes the public and enchants the entire prospect of meeting aliens. Even then, Trek has become so jaded and desperate to be edgy that it's shoved its head so far up its own ass it'll never feel fresh or inspired again.
The JJ reboots were a decent attempt at being popular again but by the second movie they bound themselves in all the suffocating lore which keeps normies uninterested.
Trek will never be the highest grossing film of all time.

At least they'll actually be able to make real Trek without the 25% different BS; but as the other dude said Kurtzman and co are cancer and will fuck up anything they touch.

It doesn't need to be cool. Most adults don't give a fuck about being cool. If its well written and interesting it will have an audience regardless of if your dumbass coworker thinks its cool or not.

Attached: Seven of Nine Cosplay of Shame.jpg (694x1024, 305K)

Marvel is just as nerdy. Nerdy is the new cool as long as you're hot.

Having an audience =/= Star Trek growing to rival Marvel, which is what you said.

Do people actually LIKE Discovery? Serious question. I've never met anybody irl who watches it.

That's a bold claim.

Worf never liked that side of Jadzia. Her being so open about her sexuality. He brought her to heel before Dukat killed her

Move Voy and The JJ crap to Shit Tier. Elevate Ent to good tier. Season 3 and 4 is when that show found ots stride. Everything else I agree with

Discovery (2017-2020)
>Wrap up the series with the third season. Give Burnham her last 'hurrah' with becoming captain and helping push the V'draysh on the right path of becoming the Federation again.

Picard (2020-2023)
>Three season run. Spend a lot of that establishing new characters to go off of in the future. Focus on Picard's new crewmates next seasons too.

Lower Decks (2020-2022)
>Don't do more than the two seasons already bought. Let it be a short term, fun thing.

Section 31 (2021-2026)
>Bring Lorca back (prime universe) to join an ensemble with Georgiou and Tyler. Take a more DS9-esque route with this where it's half serialized, half episodic.

Pathfinder (2021-2028)
>Nickelodeon series. Don't just try to draw in kids, but also focus on expanding the universe and lore with this series. Keep it long running to recruit a new generation of Trekkies with it.

Yesterday's Enterprise (2021)
>Tarantino's movie. Honestly sounds neat and different - just go for it and see what happens.

Five Year Mission (2021-2026)
>Captain Pike and Spock Enterprise series. Mostly episodic (think TNG). Stays down to earth without saving the universe all the time.

Worf Chronicles (2022-2031)
>First ever Klingon series. Make Michael Dorn happy.

Mudd (2022)
>Harry Mudd movie.

Romulan War trilogy (2023-2029)
>Movie franchise. Features some ENT cast here and there.

>Romulan War trilogy
big dick if true

Attached: andrew-gavrilov-nx01ships01-00000.jpg (1920x800, 275K)

>Lower Decks (2020-2022)
>Don't do more than the two seasons already bought. Let it be a short term, fun thing.

To be honest, I think the whole Lower Decks thing is a fucking fantastic idea. I always loved the episode and I think it would work even better as a long-form series /with the right treatment./ That part would be absolutely key, though.

You could do a lot with the premise, have the characters eventually work their way up to the bridge in later seasons. But again, Kurtzman. And it would take some kind of watershed, breakthrough event for Star Trek to gain the cachet as a franchise to realistically have some kind of long-term cinematic universe strategy. EXTREMELY unlikely, in my opinion.

Do you really think Star Trek would be letting Tarantino slam it's autistic pussy like a jackhammer if they were planning a movie trilogy in three years?

>but by the second movie they bound themselves in all the suffocating lore which keeps normies uninterested.
which is bullshit because you have to watch all 30 marvel capeshits to truly get it

Lower Decks isn't about the episode.

Viacom and CBS stated one of the big reasons for their merger was Star Trek. They're not just doing it so they get 'complete lore rights.' They're trying to rival Marvel. That means more than double the current planned series and multiple movies a year.

>Lower Decks isn't about the episode.
Jesus, how had I not heard about this yet. Not sure how I feel about it -- might be fun, I guess? Did anyone really want this, though?

No, they have a couple solo movies which introduce new characters between the big Avengers movies and each can stand on its own as a story. Trek and capeshit are exactly the same in regards to having expansive universes full of imaginary shit, the difference is Marvel is a new concept to normies. Trek will never feel new again because if they stray from the established lore and philosophy it stops being Trek, and if it plays too close to Trek it becomes an echo of past series like Voyager and Enterprise.

Just because a board room full of suits agree they should be imitating Marvel doesn't mean people will want their microwaved leftovers.

Hey look Morty, I joined Star Fleet Morty, Wubba Lubba Dub Lub!

>They're trying to rival Marvel. That means more than double the current planned series and multiple movies a year.
im a startrek fan and i hate marvel, and even i think thats a ridiculous proposition
it's all about normie appeal

Marvel (2013-future)
>18 series
>29 movies

Star Trek (2017-future)
>6 series
>1 movies

Are we about to see an even bigger explosion with the Marvel-rival plan?

>trying to compete with Disney
lmao bruh I cant even

Attached: 57E5E0BE-36C1-4F09-AAF2-9D0D002FE084.jpg (640x973, 203K)

Let's break this down logically.

What does Trek have to offer? High budget effects and spectacle? The new movies proved they can't rely on razzle dazzle to draw in normies. The Marvel movies are going full on cosmic multiverse so what can Trek offer that will seem exciting when it's competing with movies about dudes flying around in space with hammers shooting lightning at stars?

Exciting character dynamics? Trek focuses on teamwork and maintaining harmony. Characterization needs time, which is why Trek excels as a television series, but as the Marvel movies show if you don't have solo stories establishing the players then the team movies aren't as effective at getting audiences to care without a strong villain uniting the heroes. Watching a committee struggle to find a peaceful solution isn't as exciting as a team of unique, vibrant archetypes punching a bad guy. This is why the Trek movies are mostly action kinos.

Capeshit is built for shorter stories because they're about an individual discovering their talents and using those abilities for a greater cause, to save the day. Trek isn't about action heroes, it's about the exploration of self on a cosmic stage, Trek is about the pursuit of wisdon. This isn't about Trek vs capeshit this is about what audiences are willing to pay for in an era where they can pirate anything that's ever been made.

Trek shouldn't try to be more successful than Marvel.

>13 Star Trek shows
Let's see

1 Burnham
2 Picard
3 Lower Decks
4 Georgiou
5 Nickelodeon
6 Pike
7 Starfleet Academy
8 Khan
9 Mudd
10 Post-Picard series (new crew)
11 Time agency series
12 Kirk
13 Sometime between TOS and TNG

>Trek isn't about action heroes
Tell that to the TNG movies and Discovery

Both of those have been rejected by the fandom.

You know, the more I think about it, the more I agree that they probably will try some 'cinematic universe' bullshit here. Of course they SHOULD'NT and of course it will FAIL spectacularly but let's be honest here: these guys don't have many franchises at their disposal to try to exploit into the ground. Not to mention, Kurtzman is all about mass appeal and money and he's under contract for what? 4 more years?

Like the fandom matters

It's pretty obvious they don't want our fandom. They want to make fans of people who don't like Star Trek which is why they keep making shit that isn't like Star Trek.

Four years isn't time to establish a cinematic universe when the audience doesn't know what the fuck is going on. Marvel didn't know they were going to make eighty movies but after Iron Man scored a home run they were able to maintain momentum. Trek's strongest play is a reunion tour with Picard and friends. They are uncertain of what they want and an audience can smell indecisiveness like sharks picking up blood in the water.
Search your feelings, you know this to be true.

It doesn't to them, which is the point. They want to be action shit but that's not Trek so they end up with a project nobody wants.

There's more action fans than the hundreds of Trekkies

Yes, but nobody thinks of Trek as an action series and it can't compete with purebred action vehicles like capeshit. I loved the first JJ movie and still think it's one of the funnest movies of all time. I can see myself in each of the characters to different degrees and it never feels like the film is standing still.

But that's not what makes Trek endure. Nobody loves the Locutus arc because of the fight scenes, we care because holy jesus holy christ they took Picard and now Riker has to step up to bat now, the whole crew dynamic has changed, we don't know what's going to happen next. These anxieties arise from caring about the characters, something action movies have a very limited amount of time to develop.

Can we get pew-pew movies and a philosophical exploration show that run concurrently?

They have their retard space wars show with Discovery for people who think Trek should always be about a galaxy at war, a new cartoon show which will develop a fun cartoony portrayal of the Trek franchise, and Picard seems murky. I can't imagine it being any more philosophical than, "I am so old now, what a life" plus do you really trust anyone involved to write anything compelling or lasting?

They have three different ways to test what audiences like and I'd guess the one most successful is the direction Trek will move in the future. I dunno, Trek has been dead before so we shall seeeee

We've got the movies for light-action.
Discovery will turn into a movie franchise after season 3 and be our dark-action.
Section 31 will be our dark intrigue.
Picard will be our epic story arch.
Lower Decks our comedy.
Nickelodeon our kids cartoon.
Pike will be our classic Trek episodic series
Starfleet Academy, unfortunately, will be our soap opera
Mudd could be our Breaking Bad/crime dramedy.

Half of those aren't even real.

When are we likely to get our next set of major Trek news now that the merger has gone through? The universe is obviously about to explode

Based.

Going for prequels and reboots ruined everything. Sure, the franchise could have used a break, but not all this newfag shit they have now.
