Ignorant snowflake zoomers and millenials trying to erase film history. Really sad.
Ignorant snowflake zoomers and millenials trying to erase film history. Really sad
>But this week, such stars as James Earl Jones, Helen Mirren, Martin Scorsese and several leading film scholars released an open letter calling for Bowling Green to retain Gish’s name on the theater
Based Generation
boomers and zoomers confirmed to be the Freddo of generations
Quick rundown?
>zoomers having any say in this shit
Dude, even the oldest zoomers are like 20, they barely have a job, let alone influence on anything.
Blame boomers and millennials.
The sane left. Her being in that movie doesn’t mean she agreed with it. We need more people like them.
This, zoomers are growing
Yes, QR please.
This. If anything, most zoomers will try to be edgy and blindly say anything to do with Birth of a Nation is great.
I'm not saying they're wrong, but they'd be right for the wrong reasons
It happened because student protest, so probably younger students were zoomers
>zoomers are like 20
>campus theatre
are burgers really this dense?
I applaud your astounding stupidity
Who told the students to protest? It's always some troublemaking professor or outside group that gets things rolling on social media.
I'm not sure exactly what you're asking, but Lillian Gish was one of the most legendary actresses of all time, and pioneered many of the conventions of film acting itself in the 1910s. Her career spanned all the way into the 1970s IIRC, she lived to a very old age.
She came to fame due to her connection with D. W. Griffith, a director likewise credited with inventing narrative filmmaking as we know it. His most famous film, the first ever 'blockbuster', was The Birth of a Nation (1915), a film that lionizes the KKK and singlehandedly caused the KKK to be re-formed as a major national organization. The original pre-Birth KKK was just an obscure paramilitary organization and didn't have things like their signature robes etc., all of which were invented by the film.
>doesn’t mean she agreed with it
What's wrong with Birth of a Nation?
>lionizes
That's a word?
She was also in Broken Blossoms, a film supporting interracial couples made in a time where interracial marriage was illegal
>history and memory are the same
OP is a faggy American.
>That's a word?
Uh... yes?
Lions have been associated with strength and majesty since at least the 1990s.
removing commemorations isn't "erasing history". birth of a nation will be preserved for future generations to not watch. there have been two blu ray editions already
Yeah, I know the word lion. I'm not familiar with the verb to lionize. though.
>Broken Blossoms
Gonna give this a go, thanks user
Read a book, holy shit.
>Yeah, I know the word lion. I'm not familiar with the verb to lionize. though.
Just out of curiosity, do you often find that it's more expedient to post "does this word really exist" instead of highlighting the word and right-clicking?
I wanted to highlight how stupid the word sounds to me.
>troublemaking professor
More likely to be an administrator than a professor.
You think this campus bullshit is about 'subverting Western civilisation' or anything like that? Nah, it's a power struggle. Campus admin have realized that they can weaponize student protest to diminish the power of professors on campus and increase their own standing.
Half of this 'culture war' bullshit is the work of bureaucrats trying to climb the career ladder.
>june
Very timely of you, bumblefuck.
If they were erasing film history, then no one would care that she was in some dumb black and white boring movie for proto-boomers.
No sane person like movies about niggers uprising
Well, you certainly highlighted some stupidity.
What site is that? Some private tracker? Hoe can one get into site like that.
I have lots of old Scandinavian films that are so rare that many of them have never been released even on DVD. So I might even be able to contribute to these sites with new titles but I have no idea how to get started.
D.W. Griffith is arguably the most influential director of all time and his own home state (mine as well) is tripping over their shoe laces trying to erase his name from history. Stop the world and let me off.
IT'S CALLED
A
FUCKING
DICTIONARY
>D.W. Griffith is arguably the most influential director of all time
take out the word "arguably" and this would be correct
Why do they call it birth of a Nation, friends? I wanna know.
Are you ESL? Not even trying to be a dick, I'm just genuinely baffled that a native speaker could be unfamiliar with that word as it's hardly obscure.
I thought when they came for the Civil War statues they were only going after the le traitors and the le participation trophies. Didn't they say it wasn't about erasing our history and culture?
I gave it a new soundtrack
They both want to erase everything that offends them as well as do nothing but highlight it to make whites feel bad.
Yeah. Sounds dumb to me.
