I don't understand why people who shit on Snyder think Malick is the second coming. He's essentially the exact same filmmaker. His stories are bland, his dialogue uninspired. A lot of malick's films are hard for the mainstream to grasp because they dont have a straight forward story hook. The tree of life kind of does but audiences need to know the film is 'about' something to want to go and see it. Fox are aware of this and know it could be oscar bait.

Not really. European directors can direct actors. PTA did lift things from Altman and Scorsese that's true but he also lifts things from other directors like Ophuls. I like him, but saying that European filmmakers can't direct actors and that PTA is above them is stupid.
