When do you think the Simpsons went downhill? I know the mainstream answer would be the episode when Principal Skinner was exposed as an impostor, but for me it would be after the 2007 movie, when the creators, prime writers and even animators start to leave the series. The new (or we can call it old now since it's more than a decade) did not know what makes the Simpsons, The Simpsons.
What do you think? When did you think the show went downhill?

I'd say seasons 8 and 9 are where problems start to appear (too many meta jokes, useless B plots, unsatisfying story lines, exaggerated characters, etc.). Season 8 and 9 are still good, but you can tell they started running out of ideas. I stopped watching after 9 because I heard the quality drops even further from 10 on.

Unpopular opinion. I think it is mediocre from episode 1. Then it becomes atrocious. The only highlight that stood the test of time is the tomacco episode.

Season 8 is still a good season, but it was when the cracks started to show even if they were minor at that stage.
The 3 people still spamming this bottom of the barrel garbage must have massive brain damage

IMHO the beginning of the decline officialliy started with Homerpalooza, the second to last episode of season 7. While still kinda good, that episode togheter with many other in season 8 started to feel different compared to classic Simpsons. The humor changed, the tone was different, celebrity guest stars became a lot more prevalent, etc.

Honestly I don't even like season 8 all that much

Seasons 12 and 13

The movie was the breaking point for me as well. I used to watch the show religiously every day on UPN and always watched the new ep on sundays on FOX. The mid 00's seasons weren't great but they were still watchable. The movie and everything that has come since has been garbage. I remember thinking in '07 that surely they had blown their load and would wrap up the show in the next few seasons at most. And here we are 12 years later.
Henry Bailey
For me the celebrity shit is what killed it. The episode that has Basinger, Howard and Baldwin was garbage. A real turning point for the show. I agree that the homerpalooza one started the rot.
Cameron Young
season 11 episode 6
Brody Stewart
After season 13. It already started changing long before that but it was still good, only becoming more and more zany.
It went to shit when they started getting really preachy, having loads of awful celebrity appearances and included cell phones and shit like that without aging the characters.
Nolan Lewis
Yeah, that's about right. Simpsons changed drastically around season 8 and then went to shit after season 12.
