I'm gonna hypothesize that all supes have varying degrees of immunities and regeneration, otherwise their bodies would be incapable of sustaining their powers. Starlight's blinding powers would make HER blind if she wasn't naturally immune to it. A-Train running at the speed of light would kill HIM if he wasn't naturally immune to it. And Compound V seems to accelerate that regeneration. Look at what happened with A-Train's leg.

Something that takes time like poison gives Translucent's body enough time to counter it. That's why those terrorists couldn't kill him, because they were thinking too hard about it, when the simplest explanation is the correct one. He needed to be killed quickly and destructively, like being blown apart from the inside out, so that it's impossible for his body to recover from it.
