There weren't many slasher films in the 70's (aside from Halloween and Friday the 13th). The genre didn't really gain any traction until the 80's when it exploded.

do Hills Have Eyes and Texas Chainsaw Massacre count as slashers?

someone said slashers started with Blood and Black Lace in the 1960s, but I've heard other titles called " The first slasher"

you're right about the 1980s being the genre's heyday tho, 1990s-00s-2010s slashers just don't feel right

ok

I'm 58 so I was in high school during the late 70's and was the target demographic for the film. ( though to young to have seen the theater release of the "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" . The first film that was widely considered a "slasher" at the time was Halloween. But that is only my experience.

Orgy of the Dead coming up

that's so awesome, i think the 70s and 80s seemed like the coolest time to be a high school kid, the muscle cars, slim qt's, cool rock music et al

re slashers, i think you're right generally, of course scholarly nitpickers are going to quibble about stuff, but in general i can see Halloween being the first slasher, I've heard it was the first to be shot from the killers POV as well

MORE GOLD! MORE GOLD! HAHAHAHA!

It was actually. it was a pretty carefree time. We had the coolest toys that you could maim yourself with. Saturday Night Fever was the first R-rated film I attended legally after turning 17 ( went with 3 of my friends that all had birthdays the month it released ) FM radio was king , listening to American Top 40 every Saturday Morning then Watching American bandstand Saturday at noon. Staying up and watching the Midnight Special on Friday nights. Watching the highly irreverent and raunchy Saturday Night Live premiere. Seeing "JAWS" during it's first run.. Seeing "A New Hope" it's first run. Being absolutely terrified by "Alien"...but I digress.

Very well done and spot on. I never did skateboard and we rode bikes everywhere.
