The thing about Alien is that it's a fantastic movie that doesn't need a sequel, but it got one - and the sequel was a natural evolution, thus a decent sequel rather than just a rehash like Alien 3 was (although assembly cut is breddy gud, it's still basically a rehash). Thus, any sequel to Aliens should be another "evolution" to the formula - much like how Alien was basically just "slasher monster flick" but done well, and Aliens was "action/horror" but done well, Alien 3 COULD have been "disaster/horror but done well".

The only movie I can think of that's even TRIED to do disaster/horror was Cloverfield, but JJ Abrams is a hack fraud and shouldn't be allowed to write movies.

I would add War of the Worlds, with Tom Cruise. It had some very horrific moments, but the ending ruined it.
