Can I watch this without having seen any of the other movie in the series?

as long as you know the characters names and general powers sure, its not like anything actually happened in the rest of the movies anyway

>Watching capeshit to begin with

I know but I heard this one was actually pretty good

the only good capeshit made was TDK and even that is average

It will be very boring, it already kinda is knowing the lore. Overat3d by onions

No and that's why it cant be considered a good movie.

Maybe, I dunno, I'd recommend watching Guardians of the Galaxy, Civil War and Ragnarok to introduce you to the characters at least.

Endgame is the one made for people who haven't seen the rest. That's why it revolves around time travel and other stuff.

Nah, it's the culmination of a bunch of other plot threads. You need to see at least the other two Avengers, Civil War, the first GOTG and the Thor Ragnarok post-credits scene to get an idea.

I have always wondered, what kind of reception would this movie have had if the previous movies didn't exist and this was just released as a standalone. Would it still have been a success?

Of course, it's just good people with super powers vs evil people with super powers. You'll realise when you're done watching it that you wasted your time.

Why not?

The Thanos plot (purple guy) is pretty good, but the rest of characters are wack.

no, if you don't have any investment to the characters prior then no.
The only one who develops is the antagonist in this one.
The mcu is more like a show than a movie franchise. Each avengers movie acts as a season finale. You are walking into the finale of the the third season blind, you tell me if that's a good idea

i'd bet it would still gross a billion

Why? There would be no fanbase except for a really small niche of comicbook fans, Disney would have never gotten as big as they are now and therefore have no loyal fans for their live action movies

Yes, but you may as well watch Thor: Ragnarok first, because it leaves off at the start of Infinity War. Infinity War is phenomenal, best capeshit movie only behind TDK. Watch it if you like a good villain.

You surely wouldn't, but you're not obligated neither to watch all marvel movies.
You should just:
>Read a summary of Ironman 1, Thor 1 and Captain america 1 just to get a grasp of the main trio and their original story.
>Watch Avengers 1 (or just read a summary + watch the bonus hidden scene on YT)
>Skip Avengers 2. You just have to know that two new characters were introduced: Scarlet Witch and Vision, read their origin story.
>Watch Guardians of the Galaxy, it's pretty enjoyable (avoid at all costs GotG volume 2).
>Read a summary of Captain america 2 or watch it if you like military thrillers.
>Watch Civil War
>Read a summary of Black Panther and Captain Marvel.
>Watch Infinity war

I disagree, I think seeing the other movies is very important because then you know where why they are where they are when they time travel

Watch
>Iron Man (2008)
>Captain America: The First Avenger (2011)
>The Avengers (2012)
>Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014)
>Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)
>Captain America: Civil War (2016)
>Avengers: Infinity War (2018)
>Avengers: Endgame (2019)
Every Cap movie including the last two Avengers were written by the same duo of screenwriters and the last few directed by the Russo brothers. The First Avenger is lame and Ultron is a mess but the rest work as competent sendoffs to various characters.

Important to you because you're a fanboy. Do you think this movie dethrones Avatar without being accessible to the people who think "ehh haven't seen any of them, might as well see the big finale"? Pay attention to a lot of the script choices and you'll see how they quickly catch people up on what they need to know and to allow them to experience a complete emotional arc in the film. It's a big reason why Thanos was rebooted.

Not spending that much time on capeshit, is there any other way?
