Let's talk Asian kino-ma san. I'm still riding high after watching The Handmaiden. Don't just dump lists, let's dig into some.
/rice/core
>The Handmaiden
absolute kino
I wasn't expecting to enjoy it as much as I did. I also wasn't expecting a grifter movie. I also didn't expect to fall in love
Movies:
Parasite
Hana-bi
Sonatine
Battle Royale
Joint Security Area
Veteran
The Outlaws
A Bittersweet Life
A Dirty Carnival
The Yellow Sea
TV Dramas:
My Mister (My Ahjussi)
Signal
Reply 1988
Watched Parasite the other day, true kino.
Best of 2019 without a doubt
If you like the actress watch Little Forrest.
No plot; it’s an adaptation of slice of life manga.
My favorite movie last year, very rarely see it get discussed on Yea Forums though of course, but do yourself a favor and watch this. And the directors other movie Kaili Blues
Watched love exposure today, holy shit it's fucking amazing but christ
the other actress, Kim Min-hee is 37 years old. like WHAT THE FUCK?! why do white roasties age like rancid milk while asians stay qt patooties into their 40s?
Thus said, I recommend you Right Now, Wrong Then with her.
gonna watch either the handmaiden or love exposure tonight
ching chong nip nong
is this movie really that great or are you memeing me? Is it on netflix or anything?
piratebay?
because they have layer of fat under the skin that keeps the skin tight. also why they're yellow cause it shows through the skin
i dunno what its on i just download everything, but yeah its a really solid movie. i went in expecting to touch myself to some lesbo action and possibly see some weird shit as is Park's MO, but i came out loving it. you give a shit about the girls' love, all the characters are interesting, the way it builds on itself is amazing. it's such a good movie man, give it a go.
Wow OP, what do you think you're doing? Jannytard already deleted three Parasite threads today, asian cinema is not welcome here. Only capeshit, startrash and twitter caps allowed.
Does she get naked?
Loved it.
Lost my first gf and I often dream about meeting her again in strange places or unknown cities, this movie floored me.
did you check the last place you remember leaving her?
it's an absolutely gorgeous looking, perfectly framed, paced and edited film.
the story is also quite intriguing and sucks you in. also good for several rewatches because you will miss many details and nuances of the unravelling story.
1.) absolutely make sure to watch the SUBBED version because in the movie they are switching between talking in korean and japanese and it adds an extra layer to who is saying what to whom in which language.
2.) watch the extended cut, it adds a good additional 24+ minutes, making the characters' choices and their development feel much more natural and reletable, whereas the theatrical cut may seem abrupt at times
I must admit that I am an absolute fanboy of Park Chan Wook though (except for stoker and I'm a cyborg - those were weak)
So take everything I said with a grain of salt, but for me it's the best film of the past 5+ years.
i love Park as well. i didnt think the normal cut was too abrupt. only in the first act, but that was for a reason, and it was remedied by the rest of the movie.
all the shit with the uncle and what he made Hideko do was incredibly interesting.
for me, it's hapa
> My Mister (My Ahjussi)
I like you user.
I'd watch anything with IU in it purely for her looks but fuck me her performance in that was honestly amazing.
the wailing is the best horror since the shining and the shamanism/exorcism sequence is one of the best scenes this decade

Female empowerment kino with a tinge of revenge. Why are female protagonists so shit in western media?
> Why are female protagonists so shit in western media?
Most of the audience for those kind of shows in the east are women.
Some user on Yea Forums recommended this show to me a few months ago. Thank you that user. I was surprised I liked it too.
Why are asian models so fucking cute but the guy equivalents look like shit?
Wu Assassins on Netflix is pretty bad if you’re wondering, I’ll still finish it though
Best romcom ever
Finished watching Madeo (call me mother) 2018 version today, this series made me more self aware about my own feelings towards my mother and it's double that because my mother is dying of cancer too. This movie is great if you want an empathetic experience and an emotional adventure. Never has a series or movie made me feel so sad and happy at times.
Really. They leave tons of capeshit threads but deleted three Parasite threads...
Shouldn't you at least specify a genre? I mean, imagine you live in Best Korea you're discussing western Cinema with someone.
So this someone says "haha dude, 2001 a Space odysey is the best western movie ever", and then you're like "I'm more into The Dark Knight myself"
Any asian girls that broke your heart, Yea Forums? What were their names?
Yeah blanketing all Asian movies together is pretty dumb. It’s also harder to discuss that way too. That being said if anyone would like specific recommendations I’d be willing to help out.
>Park Chan Wook
I've only watched Old Boy and The Handmaiden and overall enjoyed them, but the plot twists kind of annoy me. I feel like they're pretty cheap like one protagonists tricks the other, then it is later revealed that the protagonist that you thought had been tricked had actually planned everything and tricked the person who thought they tricked them, etc and it's all explained through flashbacks.
It seems to be his trade mark but it just seems to me like cheap soap opera plot twist.
I want something detective-y. Think "detective conan" except without children and more mature
Never happened to me, broke lots of their hearts though, they fall in love with you real quickly and never let go if you give them some response. However, they're also cock-hungry sluts at the same time, don't know how's that possible.
shut up niggers and recommend asian movies, otherwise fuck off
>what's your favorite western movie
Oh thanks for asking, I enjoy Hot Fuzz, and The Burbs, and I even like garbage like Friday the 13th and Wild Things.
See? That wasn't so hard, was it?
For me it's the makes director
I enjoyed Mr. Sunshine. The love story didn't light me on fire, but the three-way bromance was fun. The political situation in that era is interesting too. I felt real bad for that last korean emperor, man, they all got fucked. No country was really portrayed in a good light either. Of course the gooks made the japs super evil, but it's a kdrama.
I like her. She is unbelievably good looking.
Currently dating a Korean, but not sure we'll be able to be together long term. Sucks cause I like her a lot
Age of Shadows is great. If you enjoyed The Handmaiden you'll probably enjoy as it explores the same time and setting, also because it's a good movie. It's a Korean resistance film, very tense and slickly done.
I have a fascination with movies showing Imperial Japan as the dicks they were. Handmaiden and Age of Shadows are great as I said, but I'd also recommend the following strongly:
Lust, Caution
Merry Christmas Mister Lawrence
The Last Emperor
I realise two of those are largely in English and most of you are probably looking for Asain language films but I just have a fascination with that particular slice of history.
I saw it with my (then) gf and it was so explicit she jokingly tried to cover my eyes. It has the best lesbian sex scenes I've ever seen.
Sympathy for Mr,Vengeance
The Blade
Hana and Alice
Wasn't really a fan. I watched it a while back and it didn't stick with me, at all. Pic related is infinitely superior.
why no long terM?
Black Coal, Thin Ice (2014, China)
Dark Figure Of Crime (2018, Korea)
Bayside Shakedown (1998, Japan)
Station (1981, Japan)
Believer (2018, Korea)
The Unjust (2010, Korea)
Museum (2016, Japan)
Negotiator (2005, Japan)
The Accidental Detective (2015, Korea)
Angel Dust (1994, Japan)
>I've only watched Old Boy and The Handmaiden
>It seems to be his trade mark
This is the conclusion you have come to after only having seen two of his works - which btw. lie 13 years apart?
also you are a real faggot dick for not spoiler tagging your post.
If you liked The Age Of Shadows you should check out Assassination it’s kinda like a korean version of Inglourious Basterds starring Gianna Jun a.k.a her
Thanks friend. i'll check them out. Black Coal, Thin Ice sounds interesting.
my mister is pure kino. When will Yea Forums accept this? also low key cuck core.
man ive got over a hundred movies and shows now on a list as a result of these last two threads. i really gotta find out where to watch them.
One Million Yen Girl is still high on my list simply because i find pic related to be sublimely attractive.
I am so fucking glad I got to see it in an actual theater when I went to visit my friend in NYC a couple months ago. I really love Bi Gan's work so far.
Jessica nice
Please don't remind me, user.
I live in the US, she lives in Korea.
She wants to move to the US, but it's not so easy to just do. She's trying to get a job in Korea, about to finish her senior year of college. I still have another year of college to go. Just kind of difficult to know what will happen, but we'll see, I'd like to make it work
For me, it's JSA, the best Park Chan-wook movie.
Chungking express
Somebody on Yea Forums recommended me Misaeng and it turned out to be kino. It's about a neet who gets an internship through connections that he is completely unqualified for, but he survives.

Best performance from a young Jap actress in a long while
peak oriental kino
I recently watched The Crimes That Bind. It was pretty good - Hiroshi Abe is always great.
>My Mister (My Ahjussi)
That was saccharine and goofy in parts but then it had some moments that hit really hard. Like that scene where he's talking to his brother in the bar and he asks if he's happy that she's close with him and he says "i'm sad she knows who i am".
So good. Sakura Ando and Lily Franky are amazing. Koreeda does family dynamics so well, and manages to get great performances out of children.
