Now that I think back on it, it's ridiculous how both of the big battle episodes ended up centered around Arya in the end even though she had nothing to do with either of those respective plot lines. Like they completely sidelined Jon and Dany for what should have been the climaxes of their arcs and instead just had invincible Arya running around being ridiculous. No one even acknowledged that she killed the Night King except for Dany in a throwaway line. It had no impact on her character, neither did running around during the burning of Kings Landing. She just pops up in the next episode, magically clean and normal looking, and tells Jon that Dany is a killer because "I know a killer when I see one", even though Jon and everyone else there personally saw Dany burn hundreds of thousands of people. Goddamn, I think the reason people forgot about this show so quickly was because the writing was so objectively stupid that it just hurts to talk about it.

Bran tangles the Night King's mind inside of the weirwood tree. Together, they go back into the past, and learn that the Night King was actually the hero all along, only betrayed by the Children of the Forest.

While in the past, the Night King's consciousness is removed from the bindings of the Children's spell, so he's completely different. He remembers what he once fought for, and mourns his own downfall. Bran offers him redemption. At first he doesn't know how. Once this trip in the past is over, he'll return to his old self, and kill Bran. But Bran decides that he should trade positions with the Night King. Rather than returning to their own bodies, they swap. Night King take's Bran's position and Bran takes Night King's position.

Snapping back to the present, The Night King(as Bran) kills Bran(as the night king).
Witnessing this, Arya is enraged, and foolishness rushes the slay the Night King with her dagger. Bran, realizes it's Arya and commands his horde to halt. She stabs him, unwittingly killing her own brother, and in doing so, the rest of the undead horde falls as well.

No one knows the sacrifice the Night King made. No one knows the sacrifice Bran made.

It just boils down to someone who was naive learning the world wasn't as good or just as they imagined, it scarring them and then them leaning into it to fuck everyone at that game. That's littlefinger, that's buddy from the incredibles, that's Ra's Al Ghul in Batman Begins, that's every "I used to be just like you" villain

What happened to Martin between Storm of Swords and Feast for Crows? The plot moved along pretty briskly in the earlier books, but then it just grinds to a halt in Crows.

It’s still not necessarily bad, but it’s just a lot of B-list characters milling about somewhat aimlessly. The story becomes less plot-driven and more character based, with a lot of characters reflecting on their past a lot. I mean, I don’t really give a shit that Brienne got teased a bunch for being big and ugly, or that Victarion got chucked by his brother.

George wanted to do a five year skip then found he couldn't so he has to write the in between shit for what leads to his endgame, yet another reason books will never be done
