Why is nobody trying to start a new big space franchise?

Why is nobody trying to start a new big space franchise?

Avatar, Star Wars, Infinity War. Literally all the biggest movies in history are about space. Don't start about brand names, nobody gave a shit about Iron Man and especially Avatar before movies came out.

Trying to rehash old franchises like Star Wars or Star Trek is simply not going to work since their core concepts are decades old and were caused by technological limitations at the time.

Space movies are hard to do because everyone feels like they've seen it all.
Star Wars didn't do well because it was in space, it was because the music and sound effects and special effects blew everyone's minds. Avatar was big because is was James Cameron and the 3D was heavily marketed. Marvel had nothing to do with outer space for a long time so that doesn't count.
Alien and Star Trek are reanimated corpses from when they actually were inventive at their time of creation, and now are just "big space franchises". Their popularity is very low right now.
It's not enough to just have a bunch of ships blowing each other up in space, there has to be some twist of brilliance to add to it and that's hard to do when the ultimate goal is building a franchise out of it.

Dune you retard

>Dune
>new

And you call other people retards.

>Star Wars didn't do well because it was in space

Except it did. It became so big because people were sucked into the setting and completely fell in love with it.

Space setting will always have the advantage due to the fact you can have planets completely different from each other. You can do anything you want.

There have been many many attempts. It's hard to do scifi worldbuilding in a single movie, and that's all you're every really guaranteed.

Nothing shows utter defeat better than a post like this.

>There have been many many attempts

Like what?

Avatar had a gimmick (3D FILM! FILMED IN 3D!) Iron Man started grounded and on Earth and had a recognizable pre established franchise behind it and only moved into space because they exhausted all Earth based threats by the first Avengers.

Scifi is just fantasy stories with space ships and computers and guns. They should drop the sci and go back to making bronze/ iron age kino.

God damn I wish films did something other than fucking taking earth events and placing them in space.

"It's a corridor horror... in space!"
"It's Pocahontas... in space!"
"It's an Odyssey parallel... in space!"

Ok, how about new terminator, but is SPACE?

>Marvel had nothing to do with outer space for a long time so that doesn't count.

The thing is you couldn't do a story like Infinity War or Endgame without going to space.

I want my Hyperion movies dammit!

touch The last star fighter with this new age Hollywood shit and I swear ill decapitate a duck at the premier

they should make one where in the future they killed all humans and now conquer space and kill aliens

I wonder when Amazon will jump at EVE.

Not MCU so would bomb

they should make a movie with Faora as the strongest women that fuck men against there will and she just takes over the world

They should make a meta movie about Eve Online. About a CEO who loses his business because of playing EVE too much.

valerian lol

What about time travelling killer robots?

Would pay to see a corporate espionage movie about a guy who infiltrates his way up a company, becomes ceo, and then disbands it.

avatar is about Neytiri
