Tom is actually able to play a kid in their late teens pretty well and nails the anxiety/awkwardness pretty well.

It's a shame they've fucked it up by giving him Starktech, making Tony his idol, and leaning into the techwiz angle so hard he's gone from "smart kid that can juryrig drones and webslingers" to "the second coming of Iron man".

Though I'm sort of a heretic on that last point and prefer organic webglands and Peter just being an intelligent geek who happens to have an interest in fringe science. And it only took FIVE films to do what one Raimi film did in a hour. Also his identity is still heavily connected to tony in almost everyway.

It's even weirder since about 60% of Iron Man 3 was him saying how retarded having a kid sidekick was. Then after Homecoming it's all he can think of like some early stage andropause.

Nigga Spiderman is defined by his individuality from other superheroes. He makes everything himself because he's a beaten by life down on his luck guy who was given nothing and had to earn it.
Giving him suits and shit from papa Tony gives his character less agency and is way more simple to understand.
Also Uncle Ben IS a character and essential to who peter is. He wasn't even in the fucking illusions in FFH, the first and most important person he let down. That's not complex, that's fucking LAZY
