Secularism as in the government won't make any laws promoting nor harming the ideology, doctrine, or structure of worship for any religion barring institutions like death/sex cults. Religion should not be the basis for any law anywhere in the country whether it be reaffirming or negative.

Evangelicals lost the fight on two issues you listed: gay rights and prayer in school. They're winning in immigration by a huge margin. Abortion is still on the table as states are making stricter and stricter laws against it. Look at what's happening in Georgia. As soon as one of these laws makes it to the Supreme Court, it's up in the air as to whether who will win. There's a real chance Roe v Wade will be overturned.
Evangelicals are strong enough that not only do Republicans try to play to whatever they want (hence why the Evangelical candidate is always the party's candidate) but even the Democrats try to go "oh we're the party of real Christians" (look at Buttigieg when he first launched).
Evangelical strength isn't that they always win. They win more often than they loose. They're strong because over half the politicians in the country want to cater to every one of their crazy desires.

The mind will not endure a vacuum. It's great you don't want to force people to adhere to a religion, but in that absence one will form regardless as modern progressive thought has demonstrated.

What does that even mean? How is not telling people what they have to believe mean that they won't believe anything? Do you need to be told what you can and can't believe?

The short version is humans are spiritual and communal beings. If they aren't led into one form of religion that satiates those needs, they will find another which is provable by the faith-based way progressives push their ideas even in the face of factual reality saying otherwise.
