As kino as this scene is and as mystical as this penguin might seem, it's the same reason every living thing seeks its self-destruction: A fault in the brain's wiring. It's why roasties ride the carousel, why trannies mutilate themselves, why druggies and alcoholics waste away, etc. The difference is that this penguin intrinsically knows it has the duty to remove itself, an error, from the rest of its populace as to not damage it.
