You do know all the populous countries are trash at football except Brazil, right? China, India, US, Indonesia, Pakistan, Nigeria, Bangladesh, Russia are all more populous and worse than Mexico.
Then those that have a slightly lower population:
Japan, Ethiopia, Philippines, Egypt, Vietnam, Congo, Iran, Turkey.
All worse than Mexico as well.

When Mexico had only 3 spots for foreign players, our nation STILL relied on old as fuck players and even naturalised footballers due to lack of depth, conflicts between managers and now even conflicts between players and NT administrators. Guardado, Claudio Suárez, Rafael Márquez, Talavera, Ochoa, Blanco, were old as fuck when they retired from our NT and some of them are still playing to this day! it's ludicrous. This country will never, EVER go past the actual first knockout because this WC is his last chance to do so. And this time they are getting eliminated on the group stage. Quite sad really, but Mexico never had a chance. Another problem is their mental management. It's shit. These players are not THAT bad skill wise and are athletic enough, but they will shit their pants against Argentina, it's guaranteed. Only youth managers have been capable to train mental abilities to the point Mexican NTs can actually win shit internationally, otherwise, Senior teams have only shat the bed monumentally. Last WC Mexico had everything to beat its old grudge, but they shat the bed hard against Sweden. Only in it's own mickey mouse cup in 1999 they played focused enough to beat a s-23 Brazil. That's literally the last time they did well as Senior team, and that was 20+ years ago. Even though there were good moments here and there, Mexico has been shitting the bed in every major competition and recently he can't even beat the US. And it will only get worse.

My theory is that we dont have a formative culture in the league there is just a few teams that actually develop players i think this is primarly because while in other countries a lot of teams exist since the amateurism in mexico during that transition to profesionalism most of the teams disappeared eventually new teams were created but the owners didnt care about develop players and stuff instead they went for some souths that were doing decent on their countries and that continues to this days

They’re obsessed with repeating the same mistakes over and over again. They hire an argentine coach, and when they hire a mexican one they are the same as always. They have very good young coachs and one of the best youth team in America - in fact won bronze at the 2021 Olympics- but they are still determined to bring again and again the same players who never showed anything with the national team.

In short, either they are renewed or they will remain dead for the next few years. football in Mexico is not like Canada or the United States, for these two countries it is a success to qualify for a World Cup, for Mexico the success has to be reaching the semifinals as a minimum
