The OT story was about how mercy and redemption are the virtues that always conquer hate, and that no person, no matter how far fallen can still be redeemed.

I'm not saying that the OT was right in its assumptions, or that they are reflective of how life actually works. Personally it's just feel good schlock, or films for people who have never truly understood the nature of evil and still have baby's first morals (basically middle/upper middle class conception of morals).

The current stories are, I dunno what, but not about that. The current trilogy are more a confusion of what they believe the evils of current society are, and they get that wrong most of the time.

Family are different. There's lines over which you can't cross & not go dark, irredeemably. Luke fears going dark unretrievably more than anything.
