Post favourite horror films and why
Post favourite horror films and why
The Bride of Frankenstein because it's better than every other horror film I've seen
inb4 basedguments
my favorite horror flicks are those atmospheric ones like It Comes at Night
whats this about?
I'm a sci-fi horror fan myself, and for me Alien (1979) and The Thing (1982) are my favourites.
>No fat, everything on screen is on screen for a good reason
>Plot is simple enough to be believable, nothing too grandiose
>Brutal violence that I would assume is realistic
>Well shot
>Well acted
>Great score
The film still blows me away, I don't think any horror title will ever top it in my eyes
eh not seen it but my instinct is not the biggest fan of hack n slash wtever.
On the otherhand the thing... yass
>Growing up I thought this was just a dumb shitty slasher like Friday the 13th.
>Finally watched it when I got to college.
>Actually a horror masterpiece.
I honestly think this is the best pure horror film I've seen. There are more artistic, more original, more technically impressive, etc films, but this one is just horror done nearly flawlessly.
If not horror, Nosferatu the Vampyrr is certainly the greatest gothic film of all time. Outstanding. Id call it the greatest horror but I think it probably doesnt even categorise well as a horror for many people
The original TCM can't even really be called a slasher. I was in the same boat as you, but it is absolutely worth watching. Just avoid the remakes like the plague.
>eh not seen it but my instinct is not the biggest fan of hack n slash wtever.
People debate on whether or not it's a """slasher""", whatever the fuck that truly means, but you should give it a shot
Totally agree, plenty of films do violence better, plenty do atmosphere better, and plenty are better on a technical level, but all said and done I think it's the ultimate horror film
Fucking nothing. Hopefully someone posts the webm of the only interesting part so you don't waste your time.
I'd say it's one of the best horror movies, but not one of the best scary movies. It's a legitimately fantastic film, but if someone is hoping for scares and suspense, they'll be disappointed.
Not my absolute favorite, but easily one of my all time favorites.
>Harry Warden is a kino killer
>creative kills
>has a cold, dreary feeling to it
>The mine location looks great, looks unpleasant, wet, and cold
>good assortment of characters
>the sound of Harry's gas mask
Anything about ghosts and zombies desu. I have a fascination for the living dead.
It's a found footage film in the style of a documentary about a family in Australia dealing with the passing of their teenage daughter. I really love it, but clearly it's divisive. Watch it for yourself and see what you think.
It's not a slasher. There's barely any violence shown in the film, it's way smarter than public opinion would lead you to believe. It has been mashed together with it's much more exploitative sequels through pop culture osmosis.
I think Herzog did very well to cover the original which personally is lost on me probably because of the time distance ( that said i have enjoyed ither silent films like metropolis a great deal.) and inject it with a greater thematic depth and great atmosphere accompanied by music and cinematography. Kunt Klinski also does a great job. And our fuhrer Bwuno Ganz
Good film. Like zombie shit alot. yet to find my zenith though.
Agree wholeheartedly. The cinematography in particular is wonderful. The scene with the entire town losing their minds during the plague and parading coffins through the street is incredible.
hmm definitely have to watch this. Sounds more interesting now.
the Grifter
da gribter :D
may (2002) is a personal favorite of mine mostly because of the soundtrack. also angela bettis is cute in it.
One of my favourite parts. Also love the bit where hes in the mountains and its playing wagner just giving off such a sense of wonder. Its almost a direct mirror to that famous romantic painting of the guy looking over the hills in fog. Then theres a view of draculas castle as it gets dark and i like alot how its only implicitely suggested that the gypsy really maybe was right about how it was only ruins but not a real castle.
Holy shit he is grabbing her tits
The VVitch is possibly the greatest horror film of all time.
It's got just about everything you could ever want. Good music, great special effects, that entire graveyard scene, and a genuine, terrifying threat.
Lol if you watch the film he lifts her dress up and looks at her fanny too.
lots of great titles all around, but i'll give the edge to the 70s because of those absolute god tier posters
Theatre of Blood (1973). It's a rare movie which works on almost all levels. It's got extremely gory, creative kills (how many horror film villains pattern their murders after Shakespeare?), yet it can hardly be called a mindless gorefest when it devotes so much screentime to characters, story and police procedural stuff and clearly expects the audience to have a decent memory for details (this is a film which sets up a lot in advance) and knowledge of Shakespeare (but without being snobbish about it), there's some genuine suspense, the villains are understandable but not made out to be sympathetic (Price's character is killing people for not giving him an acting award. You can root for him for being a clever bastard, but not condone him), the victims' deaths are fitting but not 'deserved' like in so many dumb horror comedies (they're all assholes, but don't deserve THIS level of comeuppance) and while there's a lot of comedy, it's of a type that would trigger the fuck out of modern audiences (the proto-sjw horror board Scarlet Street HATED it). The flute score is comfy as fuck too. It also is one of the only horror movies I've seen where the villain tricks a victim into committing a murder that wasn't some gaslighting whodunnit or Saw-wannabe.
Plus, we get to see Vincent Price dress up as a Jew and a gay hairdresser. What more can you ask for?
Slow burn is really boring tho.
Damn near perfect lists.
piss off silly xunt.
based.
delet.
One of the few movies I own the soundtrack too.
These lists literally defeat the point of the whole thread and dont give any kind of deeper reasons over preference or descriptions of those preferences.
Not welcome.
You're wrong. Everyone likes a list.
For me it's Return of the Living Dead
too long.
>vincent price
For me, it's Witchfinder General (1968).
>that screech/roar
the moment you know a horror film is kino
with you there, bud. it's the most honest horror film out there
The thing
Return of the living dead
Alien resurrection
Let the right one in
Jacob's ladder
Evil dead 2
Re-animator
Creepshow is pretty cool too.
>be trucker
>have working truck
>dont drive away, get down and throw wrench at leather face
> most likely gets killed off screen
was it autism?
Yeah, it really is something else. One of the things that surprised me the most about it is how, despite the obvious influence of Ed Gein and legends like the Sawney Bean clan, it takes a lot of inspiration from 1930s 'old dark house'-type movies (and throwbacks like Spider Baby) and 'stranded in an evil town' movies like Horror Hotel.
It's really funny to think how one type of movie could inspire both TCM and the Addams Family.
Deranged is better
>no Don't Go In The House
>no Deranged
>no The Fan
youtube.com
what are these imdb top 100 horrors or something? dig deeper, plebeians
>jaccobs ladder.
like one with venriloquist
one of the hottest women in the 80s. top tier fu. damn she was feisty
Amazing aesthetics in terms of fashion and setpieces
Prime Rourke and De Niro
Creepy atmosphere with great use of location
yeah how did they turn mickey rourke from looking like a deformed punched up piece of dough reinforced with bits of clingfilm into a good looking human?
True but then there's Heather Langenkamp.
Shame we never got a movie where she and Julie Louis-Dreyfus play sisters.
holy shit, yes, you have excellent taste. i was also going to say she is really hot but not as hot as heather
i watched elm street recently and every scene she is in i am in a trance. she was so good looking in the 80s it is insane. one of the prettiest women i have ever seen in a movie, hands down. god damn i love her big kissable lips and the little gaps between her teeth, and her big bushy eyebrows. SHE IS SO HOT!!!! fuuuuu
Oh yeah.
forgot to mention, i her body is so fuckin sexy. perfectly hourglass shape. and her ass is great, you can really appreciate it in her pajamas. HHHHHHNNNNNNN
Linda Blair will always be the hottest horror actress. Especially after that playboy bit she did. Fabulous tits.
I'm a sucker for thick eyebrows.
big eyebrows + blue eyes?
HHHHHNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNGGGGG
whew, she is pretty, this thread is getting me hard
Needs Candyman to complete the list.
The tension in the movie begins immediately and ratchets up throughout the film. It does not let up for a second. It's relentless.
Im a sucker for big linda blair tits though not sure im allowed to post her xrated pics here.
Based Hammer poster.
You're alright.
Fuck wrong pic. Sorry blue board frens.
Babs is a fucking legend. And she showed in The Beyond that she can actually act if given a meaty role. AND she's a GILF. Is there anything she can't do?
Thanks user. Fuck, The Devil Rides Out is kino. Wish the studio would have given Christopher Lee more roles as the hero.
I do not have a gentle heart
The first third is kino but once the final girl gets captured, it gets shit for a while. What the fuuuck was that dinner scene about? AND WHY was she yelling the entire fucking time. GODDAMN, NO MOM, I'M NOT WATCHING PORN!!! for fucks sake.
Ending's awesome though. The pickup truck driver gets a lot of pussy that night.
In my top five. Damn, this doesn't play favorites, the end is a nice grisly kick in the gut. Most of all, this is where all those teen slasher cliches started, except here they're actually logical!
very nice choice, total classic, absolutely love the poster too
The Conjuring 1 is kino but somewhat over the top by the end.
Evil Dead original is flawless but somewhat exhausting.
The Unborn is an example of predictable but watchable.
Marrowbone is an example of not scary but good horror.
Thirteen Ghosts is a great popcorn scary movie that isn't really rewatchable but should be seen once.
I have the best taste and give everything a try.
I feel like alien is not as scary anymore but its very suspensful today, The Thing and Evil Dead 2 are horror kino
The 80s were perfect for B movies, Hollywood was btfo for 10 years during this time
Bleh.
>Phenomena
vampire thread over there, btw
BLEH
pic related and The Mist
I agree with this user but DO NOT WATCH THE TRAILER. Read the IMDB summary. The trailer spoils the entire movie.
I dont think any twist shocked me as much as sleepaway camp honestly.
Such a poorly acted movie for the majority of it. Has major campy vibes and then gets a huge 180
Look at that fucking zit
The Re-Animator (1985) and In The Mouth of Madness (1995) are absolute kino.
I love horror. Big fan of 80s practical effects gore and zombie movies.
Seeing mention of TCM makes it at the top of my watch list.
Appreciating this thread, giving me a lot to check out.
One that is probably not explicitly horror, but the relatively recent Bone Tomahawk (2015) is a horror-western starring Kurt Russel that I can NOT recommend enough if you like gore and staunch characters.
>alien isn't scary anymore
>evil dead 2 somehow is
huh?
>In The Mouth of Madness (1995)
From Beyond is pretty good too.
Gotta go with American Werewolf in London.
First movie to ever make me hard as a diamond. How the hell did they get away with this?
>"Allow me to introduce Professor Abraham Van Helsing. He's a doctor of rare diseases as well as a man of theology and philosophy."
>"And gynecology."
>"Oh, I didn't know you have your hand in that, too."
whats the third in the trio of cuck?
also, some of these are not half as bad as you make out. I associate the onions boy with being too afraid of watching horror, and goes to marvel and superhero films in order for the hero to play out masculine roles that onions boys cannot fulfill.
most atmospheric horror movie ever made
anyone who uses the term "slow-burner" is a fucking underage who doesn't realize that's how most horror movies were made before 1976
David Prior’s AM1200 was a decent short film. I bet it’s still on YouTube.
mandela! The cock was twice that long!
just finished it, thx for the rec
She's a total QT, still hot, I had a huge crush on her when I first saw Hellraiser, ironic a fag like Clive cast the prettiest 80's horror girl next to Jennifer Connely in Phenomena.
Why did the one guy get tackled
Based Universal Monsters user, its a really good double-bill with the first movie, they're both almost short enough to work as one 3 hour film. There's character moments that are setup in the first movie with the monster and Frankenstein that pay off in Bride.
He was going to go up and touch Bennings, not realizing it wasn't Bennings anymore...
I thought so but he didn't get close enough for me to be sure
>Texas Chainsaw Massacre
>TCM remake (nowhere near original, but still enjoyable in its own right)
>The Exorcist
>Night of the Living Dead ('68 and '90)
>Dawn of the Dead ('78 and '04)
>Day of the Dead
>Return of the Living Dead
>Phantasm (just the first one)
>Rabid (discovered it during last summer's Joe Bob marathon)
>Alien
>The Thing
>Halloween 1 and 2
>Friday the 13th 1-4
>Evil Dead 1 and 2 (and '13)
>Creepshow
>American Werewolf in London
>The Devil's Rejects
Chills to this day every time I rewatch, even without sound its a great scene.
Little Shop of Horrors is the most underrated horror movie because it's also a comedy
you didnt say why
Sweet God, she's unbeatable. It took seeing Jenny to make Helen of Troy make sense to me.
Are you excited for Nosferatu: Slow Burn edition?
>Posting best version of LSoH
My nigga
Oh fuck yes.
kek, imagine if ATJ gets cast as Nosferatu
I did if you scroll up and look for my indepth nosferatu posts.
I can tell its gna be shit if thats real.
wtf is atj?
This is ATJ
No, that's Ayy Lmao.
>touch Bennings
what do you mean? what the fuck do mean touch? do you die if you touch?
i haven't seen that film and couldn't give a shit ...spoil it for me
Not the guy you're replying to but Frankenstein (original) is a bit plain these days. I think it might be the lack of music or the anti-climactic ending but whatever it is it feels a lot older than Bride does. Bride somehow still fucking holds up all these years later.
Basically the Thing is an alien parasite that mimics its hosts. It assimilates the crew (killing them in the process) of an Antarctic research base one by one. Then it creates a perfect copy of you, so the audience and the crew don't know who's the Thing at any point. Shit, every scene transition you don't know if the Thing assimilated another victim and the guy you're watching might not be human any more.
IIRC they were going to have a scene where the actor actually gets naked, but the actor was uncircumcised and his character was supposed to be circumcised.
Silent Hill 3?
it's apparently going to be a loose reimagining of the 1922 version, and is going to be set in Baltic Germany during the 1830's, with period-authentic vampire folklore
its still gna be shit can tell
oh yeah, definitely
