It's really the pointlessness of it that's shocking.
Combined with the absolutely-no-fucks-to-give of it all. I mean, this was his magnum opus, and was absolutely fucking butchered, and he's nothing but smiles & "yeah, it's great, go see it".

This frog-faced fuck is overrated. The Shining and Misery are the best.

The Talisman doesn't get enough love, but then it's never had an adaptation. Could've tied in real nicely with Dark Tower too, total dropped ball by him.
