If this was a live action movie, it would be considered the greatest Batman movie ever made. But because it was a cartoon its generally forgotten or dismissed as not being a real Batman movie.

you can't translate cartoons to live-action that way. it would be a very different movie.
Their is nothing the cartoon did that couldn't be done the same in live action.
watchmen
the animated adaptation of the dark knight returns was pretty based
What are the best animated Batman films?
This movie was peak Conroy Batman and Hamil Joker. No way any studio can find two actors that can match them. Maybe one, but not both.
its Scooby Doo tier, take an autism pill and rethink your life.
Mark Hammil in the right makeup would have tooken Jack Nicholsen to town.
It is the greatest Batman movie ever made.
But it is the greatest Batman movie ever made. Everyone knows Batman TAS is the quintesential Batman. There is literally no live action adaptation that fully grasp what Gotham and therefore Batman and the Joker are.
where can i watch it
the problem is all you would see would be Luke Skywalker in makeup. That's why I think he made the right call to stick to voice acting for the most part. He's pretty damn good at it too.
Because it's inferior to a few episodes of the series.
Agreed its a masterpiece its like 80 minutes and says everthing it needs to
>tooken
>If this was a live action movie, it would be considered the greatest Batman movie ever made.
>implying it isn't
Adam West batman was also a 10/10 adaptation of silver age batman.
Phantasm, Dark Knight Returns, Under the red hood, I think year one wasn't bad either. The entire animated show. I'm not a big fan of Batman Beyond but the movie Return of the Joker was not too bad. Also that Mister Freeze movie was good. Also the four Batman/Superman team up episodes from the Superman show.
Buy a copy, unless you think you're a bad enough dude to pirate.
I always felt that Mask of the Phantasm had serious pacing issues and was overall kind of lackluster in themes and ideas.
You could argue that's true, but the the action, the atmosphere, the dialogue, the audio-visual presentation are all excellent.
When will we see this in a live-action film?
Wayne needs a redhead waifu to settle down with.
Its not a Batman movie.
Its a Bruce Wayne movie.
Why not? From the start the creative team approached it as a movie rather than a glorified episode, and the results speak for themselves.
Man it has really been a while since they released a good Batman movie. All those animated ones lately were garbage.
"Bruce Wayne is an act, Batman is the real identity" is the worst idea ever associated with the character.
Bullshit. That's what makes the animated series so much better than the life action movies. Conroy was the only one who put on a Bruce Wayne voice when the character was out in public. The "Batman voice" was just the way he would normally talk in private with Alfred or Robin(s).
Jesus.... I've read some shitty hot takes before, but you didn't have to squirt piping hot diarrhea all over the place to try and be an edgy teen.
>that episode of batman beyond where bruce knows he's not crazy because the voice in his head calls him "bruce" instead of "batman"
fucking kino
those dc animated movies are nice flicks, but i feel they don't get noticed enough, but then again they keep doing them so i guess they're netting some profit.
>its a babs episode
>oh look a cool new villian for Batman to face
>n/m its the Joker again
>you will never guess who the arkham knight is!
>its jason todd, once known as robin!
>red who?
Batman Beyond in general nailed what an old Bruce Wayne would be like.
>it would be a very different movie
Have you even watched it.
live action michael keaton movie when
have you watched never back down?
It's not that good
i haven't watched it in over a decade but i remember it being really good
what makes you say this?
Batman: TAS and Batman Beyond are probably the greatest Western cartoons ever
*blocks your path*
Wow, that gargoyle is a cuck.
Mask of the Phantasm
Batman & Mister Freeze: SubZero
Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker
Batman vs Dracula
Under the Red Hood
Mystery of the Batwoman
Son of Batman
In that order
This user is right, I forgot the Batman/Superman World’s Finest movie
I would put that at number 2 or 3
Paul Dino and Bruce Tom always worked on the idea that both were an act of sorts. Batman is only really himself when he’s in private with someone who knows he is Batman and Bruce Wayne and the same is true for Superman (only really himself when back home in Smallville with the Kents)
When he’s Batman he has to act more tough and intense than he is and not show his weaknesses (like when he’s like shit I can’t fogure this out let me bounce ideas off of you Alfred and we’ll look stuff up on the Batcomputer) he has to appear to be this Demi-god that’s always on point and always in control. He also can’t just be like “lol I’ll throw money at this non vigilante issue because I’m rich” like he does occasionally too.
Yeah, it sucked compared to the comic. That's part of the point Moore was trying to make with Watchmen, show that there are somethings that comics do better than movies
Bruce Timm has as big a boner for the Joker as Paul Dini does for Zatanna but since Joker sells no one calls him on it.
While one of the best takes on the Jason Todd revival story it was an incredibly lackluster let down when I realized that’s what they were doing. I was hoping it would be original or some kind of riff on the Black Hand/3 Knights of Batman thing
Batman Beyond needs a new series or movies, it was so damn good
It does but unless they gave Paul Dini complete creative control it would probably be shit. They honestly need to just let him write a live action movie
>If this was a live action movie, it would be considered the greatest Batman movie ever made. But because it was a cartoon its generally forgotten or dismissed as not being a real Batman movie.
OP, no, if the Batman Arkham Origins cut scene animated movie was done live action THAT would be the best Batman movie ever made!!!FACT!!! youtu.be
>It does but unless they gave Paul Dini complete creative control it would probably be shit
Truth.
the end taking place in the rundown world of the future themepark was really in your face but absolute kino at the same time??
They should have hired Paul Dini and Bruce Timm to develop a script for a 5th Batman movie for 1999 with a different Director. I would have hired George Miller, mostly known for Mad Max, but mainly because he Diected the Terror at 20,000 Feet segment of the Twilight Zone movie in 1983 as well as The Witches Of Eastwick. Make Scarecrow and Killer Croc the baddies, set it during Halloween and it could have been great!!!FACT!!!
It's full of cliches, and the animation is poor in several parts, even compared to TAS.
TAS has several episodes that are better too.
which TAS episodes would you say are better? i remember the mad bomber one being really good as a kid, might revist some of them
Almost all of the DC animated movies are 100% better than any live action movie they have ever made.
And their animated tv shows make the live action ones look like poor jokes. Not that they needed any help.
What I liked about mask of phantasm is that its the reason why he decides to commit to being batman 100%.
>a live action movie
That's one that comes to mind, Perchance to Dream is another
pretty much all of dc animated is kino
you want cliche kino watch brave and the bold
Sub zero and return of the joker
You're being memed on everything else
Watch all of the animated series, new and beyond for peak animated Batman. If you want to branch out superman animated justice league animated and justice league unlimited but skip the Batman beyond ep of unlimited
Since this has become the animated Batman general, I just want to put it out there, this was really good and erryone seems to be sleeping on it.
Batman: The Brave and the Bold is right behind Batman TAS. Give the show a shot if you haven't already.
Of the more serious ones that would work well as a movie:
Heart of Ice
Beware the Gray Ghost
Feat of Clay
Perchance to Dream
Over the Edge
I still cry when Bruce is looking at the Batmobile prototype at the fair of tomorrow and Andrea asks him if they'll really live in a bright and shiny future
That scene is doomed
this is the one with Jonah Hex, right? I like that one.
Yes
Man, if I saw this movie when I was 8 years old I would've shit myself
Great thread. That is all
that episode is cool as fuck, I'm going to watch it right now
This is so weird and so wrong
Good stuff user.
wtf
That's not even the worst part. We could've had this really stylish and trippy adaptation of The Killing Joke with all the original colors, and instead we get this stiff garbage shoved in. If it was in literally any other movie I wouldn't be as mad.
A fucking toy commercial did it better 30 years ago

>Almost all of the DC animated movies are 100% better than any live action movie they have ever made.
I am amazed at how this still rings true even though the quality of the DC animated universe has greatly decreased and is not even a shadow of it´s former glory. I mean, Mask of the Phantasm is actually a great movie. Not only is true to everything that Batman is suposed to be but i has a good plot/ mystery with great character development and a self contained origin story that goes full circle.
I agree, really bizarre stuff
off-putting really
this is great, although I don't like the look of the turtles
It would've been pure cringe if it had been a live action movie. A lot of stuff that works in cartoons doesn't translate well or at all to live action. Even Marvel, as embarrassing films as those are, know when to leave the goofiest aspects out.
Nerds only want live action adaptations to their cartoons so they don't feel as embarrassed watching them or talking about them to their normie friends. Just own up to liking good cartoon movies and stop trying to get live action remakes done of everything to justify liking them.
This does actually have seriously good fight choreography
JLU > TAS
the first Batman '66 animated movie is kino and was released in theaters
I did like this show because it showed a lot of B/C/D-list characters which was unusual at the time.
Anything with clayface.
Unironically that was always the point of the justice league.
You trick people into buying the book for batman and superman and hope a little bit of prestige rubs off on matter-eater-lad and hawkman.
/x/ the character
It would be if they were allowed to use Batman rogues. Because of the ongoing show The Batman, they were contractually forbidden so as to not confuse retarded kids.
That and how badly they fucked up with "Epilogue"
>The plastic tips at the end of shoelaces are called 'aglets'
>Their true purpose is sinister.
Everything is better with Jeffrey Combs.
Gorgeous animation. I miss the 90s
Live action couldn't begin to do her justice.
The thing is you could adapt watchmen to a movie, but you have to adapt the concept and not the story.
Just like the comic was a lampoon of comics-at-that-point a movie should look at capeshit in film, and re contextualize everything to subvert the genre using the medium of film to its fullest.
The black pearl wouldn't be a comic book in this adaptation would be a horror-western movie.
Have fake commercials and news magazines (think robocop) to do those end-cap in-universe exposition dumps from the comic in a different way to help inform and build the world.
The new frontiersman would be Not-Alex Jones.
Its the thing with adaptation that Jordorowsky talked about, if you want to make something good and interesting you can't be so beholden to source material that it holds you back. Make it your own take on the work that can stand on its own instead of using comic panels as the story board.
>If this was a live action movie, it would be considered the greatest Batman movie ever made
Already happened. Red Hood
this scene and the bane overdose scene ruined my childhood
>you know how to fight six men, we can teach you to engage six hundred
>you know how to disappear, we can teach you to become truly invisible
father has our old laser disc copy
KINO Liam Neeson carried Batman Begins
.....I thought it was hot.
I am of the opinion that Batman Begins is the best Nolan Batman film. It's the most faithful to the comics. TDK is a gangster flick and Bale as Batman is the weakest element of the film, and if Batman is the weakest part of a Batman film, you have failed your objective. If you remove Batman from the film and have the focus be on Gordon instead, it would work just as well.
TDKR is hot garbage and deserved the meme ripping it received.
It's a great movie but not as great as everyone says. Definitely not as great as you say. I love animation and I love Batman but you may as well just watch the animated series. It had lots of great stories, many of which were better than Phantasm.
>I am of the opinion that Batman Begins is the best Nolan Batman film
>TDKR is hot garbage and deserved the meme ripping it received.
Might be the most based post I've seen on Yea Forums in some time.
>TDKR is hot garbage and deserved the meme ripping it received.
I unironicallly liked it
Begins > Dark Knight > Dark Knight Rises tho
I liked Rises more for how much of a mess it is.
It's given me so many laughs.
I genuinely couldn't believe what a mess it was when I did get around to watching it. I was all on board but I left it disappointed and kind of pissed off.
TDKR is a mess but I kind of admire it for its ambition. Nolan clearly never had a strong idea for the third movie after Ledger's death so he just went to the wall with it and did as much crazy stuff as he could with his budget
I knew is was going to be shit when the opening scene leaked.
Nothing about the plane hijacking makes any fucking sense, and I love every second of it.
I really loved how it finally gave Bruce a happy ending away rom Batman, most of the time he ends up alone without friends and everyone hating him, or dead.
I also really like Tom Hardy as an actor.
The climb scene is great btw
>you don't fear death, you think this makes you strong, it makes you weak
>how can you move faster than possible? Fight longer than possible? Without the most powerful impulse of the spirit? The fear of death.
youtube.com
I watched it recently and some of the scenes made me tear up. Kevin Conroy is the definitive batman, and the animated series is the best batman media out there.
A lot of Bane's motives and speeches feel like they were reworked from some idea Nolan had for Joker.
Putting the entire city into chaos like that just seems like something Heath's Joker would do, not Bane. Then he had to write in the League of Shadows for it to make any goddamn sense.
Wow Alfreds reaction was really good, now I want to watch this movie
Like that shitty Lion King remake.
It's really good, like most things related to TAS are.
