Book adaption comes out

>Book adaption comes out
>Director and screenwriter acknowledges the differences in the media and takes key components from the book to craft an engaging film adaptation instead of a 1:1 straight copy
>Film version becomes beloved due to various factors coming together to make a great movie
>Original author denounces film version because the studio "didn't get my vision" or wasn't a 1:1 adaption, denouncing the film in post interviews despite signing off on the film adaption licensing
Are there any examples where the original author actually enjoyed the film adaption of their work? Picture unrelated.

I think the woman who wrote interview with the vampire hated the movie at first but then she watched it and started liking it.

The author of fight club straight up admits the film is much better than the book.

Stephen King, The Mist

I know this doesn’t count, but the wife of Roald Dahl (Charlie and the Chocolate factory) who had a very close relationship with her husband, said that she was almost certain that Roald Dahl would have loved the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2007?). Although he fucking hated Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory though

he also gave Misery, Stand By Me and Shawshank his seal of approval.

didn't that gonzo journalism guy like the film johnny debit made but hated the one bill murray did?

Phillip K. Dick liked Blade Runner.

>then she watched it and started liking it.
How could you hate something not watching?

It was the casting. She had problem with either Cruise or Pitt (or both) and decided the movie sucked and was doomed to fail. Then someone made her watch it and she loved it.

On unrelated note, I once caught Interview on the TV and i found it to be a vulgar piece of smut (but with sexy vampires). Which begs a question from me - why do people like it but shit on Twilight? They are equally shitty.

It was Cruise she had a problem with, because he made the screenwriters take out most of the faggot shit.

did he even watch it? he died the same year it was released

>Book adaption
Cringe.

Honestly, I prefer the book. It really beats you over the head with the idea of Bateman being totally psychotic while still be entertaining and without pacing issues.

Some of the best movies ever made have been book adaptations. It’s just that in recent years the only book adaptations made are shit like Harry Potter and Fifty Shades.

because vampires are fucking cool when done right

I mean that just makes sense. The 2007 movie follows the book way more closely than Willy Wonka.

he unfortunately didnt but he got to see concept art and other behind the scenes stuff and he loved what they were doing

You are in Yea Forums, user. You should know.

I will die in my sleep tonight.

>the wife of Roald Dahl who had a very close relationship with her husband
No kidding?

Thread is cursed.

Regardless, its always the author's fault for falling for the check they're offered in return for their fucking soul.

"Waaaaahhhh, they made my book into a a movie wrong!", well thats what you fucking get for selling it to Hollywood, fuckwit.

A good film adaptation should vastly differ from the book imo. I hate films that just follow the book's plotline and style in a strict fashion. I want to see the director's and the screenwriter's original take on the story.

I doubt all the torture scenes could even be made

Remember the backlash over the genital mutilation in Antichrist, this is 10x worse than that

The patrician way to enjoy American Psycho is to read the book but imagine Bale saying the lines

He legitimately absolute hated science fiction and what it had become, shortly before his death. However, after seeing an early cut of Bladerunner he said he loved it and it made him like sci-fi again.

American psycho the film is way better than the book. Ellis is kind of terrible.

>The poor nigger on the wall. Look at him. Look at the poor nigger. Look at the poor nigger on the wall. Fuck him. Fuck the nigger on the wall. Black man is debil.

What did he mean by this?

American Psycho the book is so fucking boring.

If he murdered Bethany as well he probably thought he might as well go for broke. I seem to remember Patrick thinking about how much he'd like to pour acid all over the "slanty-eyed zipperhead face" of another acquaintance's adoptive son.

Do you like Phil Collins? I've been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Duke where, uh, Phil Collins' presence became more apparent. I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums. Christy, take off your robe. Listen to the brilliant ensemble playing of Banks, Collins and Rutherford. You can practically hear every nuance of every instrument. Sabrina, remove your dress. In terms of lyrical craftsmanship, the sheer songwriting, this album hits a new peak of professionalism. Sabrina, why don't you, uh, dance a little. Take the lyrics to Land of Confusion. In this song, Phil Collins addresses the problems of abusive political authority. In Too Deep is the most moving pop song of the 1980s, about monogamy and commitment. The song is extremely uplifting. Their lyrics are as positive and affirmative as, uh, anything I've heard in rock. Christy, get down on your knees so Sabrina can see your ass. Phil Collins' solo career seems to be more commercial and therefore more satisfying, in a narrower way. Especially songs like In the Air Tonight and, uh, Against All Odds. Sabrina, don't just stare at it, eat it. But I also think Phil Collins works best within the confines of the group, than as a solo artist, and I stress the word artist. This is Sussudio, a great, great song, a personal favorite.

As an extra trivia, a psycho russian was inspired by this movie and tortured and kill his male lover on camera while the song "true faith" from the movie was playing in the background. The video is named 1 Lunatic 1 Ice Pick

One Bong was also inspired by the movie, got caught after two murders

Yep, Hunter S. Thompson was Depp's buddy.

the shining

wait never mind i thought op's question was the exact opposite

>>...takes key components from the book to craft an engaging film adaptation instead of a 1:1 straight copy.

Imagine actually doing that though. Like a full Novel-visualization where the tv version tries to follow the book word for word to the best of its abilities. Is it possible? Sure it definately won't work for all novels and due to the time length it would probably have to be a series/miniseries. Is there any example of this visualization of novels?
