That's how it goes in the comics, the strong white male screws up and it's up to the smart confident woman to fix it. Seeing as we just got a movie where Thor regains his worthiness and he's already had his powers revoked before I'm hoping they just have Thor give up his powers to save Jane. I imagine it'll be a fish out of water story where he tries to act immortal and gets his ass kicked in every fight for comedic effect while Jane saves him.
