It doesn't need to have completely original themes to be interesting, it's about the way the theme is presented. One French film exploring class struggle doesn't make all others doing the same obsolete. This film is very original and excels at blending its various genres seamlessly

I didn't find it that funny desu. It was good but i liked the social commentary in Burning more, it seemed more subtle and less hamfisted. This was good but really nothing exceptional. Not a masterpiece that people were claiming. Some plot conveniences were really annoying.

It doesn't end on the son buying the house and reuniting with his dad, but it makes it look like it will when it fades out. Then it goes back to reality of the son sitting in their shitty basement house. The ending is about showing that poor people will make these grand plans to make it big and think that getting rich will give them what they want most in life, but these plans don't actually work out and they'll only reach that in their fantasies.

There have been countless threads about this film and still no one has provided good subs. I flat out refuse to watch this film until I know I'm not going to have it ruined by Bablefish tier subtitles.

Lot of films that got Palme are not that great. Also this jury awarded Dardennes for direction and if rumours are to be believed then they wanted to give them Palme before Parasite played. The film is extremely accessible that's why it's so beloved it's hard to hate it, but it's not that amazing. It's still quite good.
