it's super immersive show set during the 60s. it's okay that atmospheric stuff isn't for you. i'm also a zoomer, and i love my fair share of marvel films as well, but mad men is kino.

I'm not sure how you can't get hooked after the first episode when they reveal he has a family after spending the entire episode in the city.

I guess wait until you understand and like the characters more, it's a character driven show so don't expect any crazy plot twists

MadMen is a terrible show, here I thought I would be getting something cool , like wolf of wallstreet esq type of thing. But no, Its just a bunch dramatic crap.

I fucking hate Jordan Peele. Humans are a lot of things by nature, and a lot of them are fucked up, which is why civilization and laws exist, and why we don’t live in tribes anymore, you fucking child. Your concept of “human nature” is just a way for you to justify your irrational, low-IQ hatred of and aversion to people who don’t share your exact life experience.

Mad Men isn’t a particularly intriguing premise, nor does it have many cliff hangers or cheap tricks to reel you in. However, it does have excellent writing and a very good plot (although a bit repetitive later on to hammer home ‘the message’). I wouldn’t say there is any point where you get ‘hooked’ and frankly I think a shown shouldn’t have to.

Had to take it to the next level with the cuss words didn’t you? When the next collapse happens let me know which version of reality will ring true. Settle your panties down.

Yeah, keep betting on that collapse. Great perspective to bring to the public discourse. Don’t work to fix it, just hope that everything we’ve ever worked toward as a species gets erased. Really hoping for more media that pushes this agenda.

Don is the opposite of the ideal male role model, the whole message of the show is that it’s a facade brought about by the attitudes of the era. With modern tv as it is show runners are forced to hook their audience first episode but I’m sure you’ll agree that most of the shows you listed couldn’t maintain that. If you just find it boring then don’t feel the need to slog through as it won’t be great.

Everything fades away eventually. The earth reclaims all in the end. See The Book of Ecclesiastes. All is vanity. Doesn’t mean we should hope for it but all we can do is stem the flow. All roads lead to it.

If you’re really into suspense/action rather than a slow burn drama, which your post seems to suggest, then maybe MadMen isn’t for you? I get what you mean by not getting hooked but it is a very well made and entertaining show if you give it the time. It’s not that the first part of the season is bad but it’s that you need to get invested in the characters to really enjoy the experience and start appreciating the well-written characters. Again, it might not be for you and that isn’t a bad thing.

So your take from the Bible is “the apocalypse is coming and we’re destined to live in tribes” and not something like “love thy neighbor”?

I do love my neighbor. The version of me ten years ago would’ve traded venom with you over this but I don’t want to do that with you. We have no issue with each other. Just a disagreement of trivial matters. As for Mad Men, it is authentic and I appreciated Weiner not caving to the diversity quota because it’s close to reality.

I agree, I was just starting shit for no reason really. I actually really value Sopranos for a similar reason, the fact that Chase was so adamant about the expression of the Italian perspective that he chose to not only cast almost all
Italians, but also got most of the crew to be Italian as well - just a very pure expression of one specific cultural perspective, while totally disregarding whatever kind of racial or political narrative the “media” is trying to push.
