It was too far fetched. Who would use phones that you had to have plugged in to your house? Just use a mobile ffs.
Grudge is much better
l m a o
*burps*
Just ordered the blu-ray, can't wait to see it again.
Not even the scariest Westernized Japanese horror film.
>The Ring
>Watch cursed video
>Get phone call
>"Yo, it's ya girl Samara. I'mma be comin' for you in a week, so stretch out those hammies, 'cause it's gonna get crazy!"
>Copy video and redistribute
>All clear
v.
>The Grudge
>Go into haunted house
>"Yo, it's ya girl Kayako. I'mma kill yo ass, lol. Take a shower, leave the country, check into a hospital, it don't matter. I'mma fuckin' kill you :)"
>死
Not even remotely. I fantasized about the girl coming from my tv and fellating me, sucking my soul thrhough my cock. I've masturbated to this film four times.
I thought the original thai shutter was pretty scary desu.
Shut up. That shit gave me nightmares and still manages to be nerve wracking somewhat today. When I even hear that fucking burp noise I start sweating. Wouldn't be as scared of her if she got BTFO in a movie but she keeps winning.
The implications of The Ring and what a person would do to save themselves are scarier and more interesting than The Grudge if you actually think about it
It's alright, don't get me wrong. I just think in terms of the actual quality of the films, not just which is more le spooky, The Ring is the better remake.
I can't watch horror movies because I wanna bang the monsters.
I lost count of how many times I've had nightmares with the Grudge woman. Never had a nightmare of the Ring girl. I think it's the fact that she can only come out of a tv, while the Grudge can appear out of anywhere that makes her more scary. Also the noise and the way she moves is disturbing as fuck
How?
I'm looking forward to the new Grudge movie coming out by the end of the year.
If I ever have sleep paralysis, I'd probably see that bitch
The issue of Grudge is that the victim was already in a similar situation before he or she entered the haunted house. So you can say the same thing about Grudge.
To escape, you have to doom someone else to a likely death, unless you also explain to them that they have to show someone else. Even if you were extremely organised about it, somewhere down the line you're choosing to sacrifice someone else's life to save your own. Even so, it's clear that basically everyone would choose to do that over being killed by Samara. It's a much more interesting option than in the Grudge, in which there's really nothing more to it than "oh boy you went in that hosue you dun fucked up by going in that house you shouldna dun fucked up and gone in the house now u dead boi".
While I'm thinking of it, It Follows really ripped the whole "doom someone else to save yourself" thing straight off of The Ring, didn't it?
Are you saying the guilty are drawn to the house?
prince of darkness got to me a bit
That ending was pretty unsettling. One of those things you remember long after you've forgotten the rest of the film.
I get what you are saying but there are two things you got it wrong.
1. In the original Ringu they didn't want it to get organized. It was the American reboot and revival trying to get organized.
2. The idea of Grudge is that you have no options at all. Even before you get haunted, your life is shit. Your relationship always gets worse. That is the real reason why you can not outrun Kayako
This but Lost Highway. Party scene with the spooky manlet gave me nightmares for weeks when i was younger
The ways in which the Grudge can appear to kill me is what terrifies me.
Ring = she comes out of the tv and kills you
Grudge = she psychologically tortures you for a while, making you see her on the corner of your eye, until either you can't take it anymore and kill yourself or she's had enough playtime and kills you herself
I don't give a shit about what I'd do to others to stop the curse.
why? Well who doesn't like a slow burn horror movie which is also atmospheric as fuark?
Samara canonically has testicles user. She's a hermaphrodite
The scariest horror movie is objectively stepping outside into society
I am saying it's called social problems. The whole society has it.
Domestic violence. Old people getting dementia. Taking care of hopeless people. Too old without getting married. Single family. Etc.
It makes it looks like Kayako's curse hurts your life. But in fact that's where we all are heading . The movie in the end makes you think there is no difference and nothing matters.
The Grudge shared a similar idea with Dark Water (because the guy was westernized). They are both a repeating social problem.
So Jennifer Connolly died because her daughter got possessed by a ghost. But the reason why she became vulnerable to the ghost is because she was a single mom before moving in. Her daughter can still turn weird and die without the ghost possession. You can remove the supernatural ghost, and see the whole incident as a natural phenomenon of social problem repeating itself.
>rewind to sophomore year of college
>talking with gf at the time
>she asks me if I'm scared of anything
>"I don't know. I guess that lady from the Grudge because she always gave me nightmares as a kid"
>fast forward to a few months later
>she decided to crash the night
>starts making a big fuss about a smell
>don't smell anything but she insists I go check outside the bedroom
>eventually gets me out of bed and makes me look through the entire living room
>find nothing
>go back to room
>no gf in bed
>only a woman in a night gown with her hairdown standing next to the bed
>she's staring at me from what I can make out in the dark room
>90% know its her fucking with me
>10% worried its actually Kayako
>warn her that I will punch her in the face if she charges at me
>she starts waddling towards me awkwardly
>I slap her hard in this fight or flight situation
>she starts cursing at me and breaks character
>"What the fuck, user? Why did you hit me? Ghosts aren't fucking real. It was just a god damn joke"
Gotta say, she was really dedicated to fucking with me seeing as how she changed into a night gown.
Even better.
Good story i almost cared
She sounds sweet
The American remake of The Ring is superior to the original Japanese version and only plebs who are trying to sound intelligent disagree.
Change my mind.
Ringu was more drama than horror to be honest
????? what do you mean i wanted to fuck samara the whole movie user
as someone that has watched all 11 (?) Ju-on/Grudge movies multiple times over the years, nah son, Ringu is better.
still happy to hear they're making more of them though.
Did u fuq tho
are these movies like actually scary or just a meme
ive never watched a horror movie because im a fucking bitch
>Robert Blake
>spooky manlet
Dude.
She should've gone with this:
it sequels sure aren't though but user whats your thoughts on The Grudge?
if you're a japanese young girl maybe
this is the audience targeted by these movies in Japan. If you watch them being a western white male it's pathetic
>that scene in the Grudge 2 where the blonde girl pees on herself
BASED director!
No.
1. Americans are Christians.
2. The long straight dark hair.
3. Americans are racially and ethnically diverse. Why would you hire blonde Naomi Watts
4. America is bigger and got different tradition. Ultimately America is younger than japan.
These are just some of the god given difficulties.
Let's talk about what we can control.
1. The sound effect of the tape
2. The video resolution and quality of the tape. The footage in doesn't look like it's from a tape.
3. In the remake there was this obvious scene of Naomi looking out her window and was bothered that Americans are all watching TV. That's a too obvious comment on the issue.
4. There was this scene of horse going crazy. It brought out the back story of the countryside. But that contradicts with the theme of city.
5. The way the dad died was a little convenient. He suddenly went violent and said what's needed before killing himself
Yeah Ring 2 and the new one whatever it was called (Rings?) was shit.
I quite like the Grudge. Been over a decade since I've seen it though. Very spooky. Was the Japanese one better? I can't remember.
>japanese """""horror"""""
Lmao
underrated post
Not really it was pretty cliche. The joke about "le real life scary" is beaten to death.
I wouldn’t say better, but definitely scarier. I still have to see the original Ringu, though.
I would have dropped her ass
what
is
this
They were a main fear factor in my childhood, and left something coded in my mind I guess
in It Follows you don't really save yourself, cause it will come back for you after killing your successor.
why do people do this kind of shit
sometimes she kills immediately
Is It Follows a good horror? I have not seen tht one yet
i was 15 when this came out so i watched it in the cinema and honestly was fucking terrifying
watching the actual video on a big screen creeped me right out and being surrounded by people in the dark where you cant see their faces properly was just too much. havent watched another horror movie in the cinema since
not really, it has some potential, but i think they wasted it
it's good but the final act is kind of retarded
A24 horror >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Japanese """"""""""""horror""""""""""""
It’s very polarizing. People seem to love it or hate it.
It’s one of my favorite modern horror movies. Honestly, aside from a few moments, it’s not too terrifying. It’s just a well crafted film.
Fucking single mothers really are the source of all evil aren't they
have put some extra force in that slap just in case it was actually her fucking with you. stupid bitch need to learn not to play no joke game i got spooked even reading this story
The grudge scared me more than any other movie before or since. Everything about Kayako’s design, movement, the sound she makes, they just terrify me. There’s no reasoning with it and no escape.
>being scared of a petite girl
yeah for incels maybe
I have a hard time believing Hiroyuki Sanada wouldn't soccer-kick that bitch in the head.
Its the Ring because of the atmosphere and music score and lighting and just dread the entire movie. and the Ending is kino
It's pretty fucking excellent high concept trash. Kinda The Grudge in the same fashion in that you're cursed and you're fucked no matter what, it's just a matter of how and when. Inescapable.
Fuck all the söys that were talking about
>"Oooof this is a such a great subversion of the slasher genre and I love the way it deals with the proclivity for promiscuous behavior that inhabits the modern person"
Fuck that, just take is as a straight horror movie and it's great and has a real menacing attitude to it.
I'm going to be completely honest, I've always wanted to fuck her, The Grudge, The girl from FEAR, and literally any female horror antagonist.
I never saw them being scary.
You must've really liked FEAR 2.
I blew countless loads to the ending.
It did rip it off. Basically the whole "doom someone else to save yourself" thing was invented by The Ring.
It's a decent "flick" if you want to "turn your brain off"
Imagine talking like this. Are you putting on a persona or is this actually how you talk in real life?
Erma a cute!
>supposed to be scary
>i spend the entire film wanting to fuck the ghost girl
for me it's hereditary. Or the thing, that had brillant practical effects
Literally the only good scene in the entire movie. The rest was a tryhard bore.
That was your perfect chance to overcome your fears by defeating them with mating press. Turn your life into a triumphant instant loss 2 koma
Most of the movie wasn't scary, just tense as shit, but the whole part after the kid breaks his fucking face in the classroom and is driven home, is terrifying. Definitely one of my favorite movies.
I know it's a meme to hate on slow, atmospheric horror here, but jesus it worked perfectly on the movie. The last 10-20 minutes were kino. Best moment was the cult guy smiling at Alex Wolff.
Wasn't he looking at the possessed mom in the corner?
It has too many jumpscares, I prefer a slow atmospheric burn.
This was probably the scariest movie I ever saw, I'm too jaded/old now to get scared like I was when I first saw it. I remember talking with people about the movie afterwards, and there being two camps, a group of people who thought it was terrifying, and a bunch of people who found it absurd/laughable.
>Ringu
>Ju-on
Watch Kairo bitches.
I think he was relishing the moment. Did you see the cult members at the day-night transition? They were naked, just outside the house
