What’s the verdict so far, Yea Forums?

I like that screenshot.

I recently got a book of collected works by Lovecraft, Color Out Of Space was in it, interesting premise, screenshot looks cool. When is The Hound getting an adaption though, that's the best one I've read so far.

It's a good story, looks like the film will initially present the "color" as a life-giving entity but by the end of the film it will everything will be grey and dying. I just don't know how this can be successfully adapted to film when the major hook of the story is that one cannot physically imagine the literal color out of space

it is neat. i think Howard would have approved.

>cosmic terror

What would a colour beyond the human spectrum of visible light appear as?

very kafkaesque almost lovecraftian

>the major hook of the story is that one cannot physically imagine the literal color out of space

This is what bothers me and also how Hollywood so predictably made it some "hot pink neon-like" bullshit. Also in the story (iirc) the presence didn't make everything "Grow all funky and alien" before reducing it to desiccated matter. Things like fruits and vegetables just grew bigger and fuller, yet they tasted wrong and rotten.

Attached: leviathan.jpg (1680x1050, 483K)

Assuming you could see infrared, it might literally look like a deep shade of red, ln the shorter end of the wavelength spectrum, dark purple maybe? This is really speculative mind you

>"the color out of space"
>it's just pink
wow

Do not expect a 1:1 of the book.

t. dad works at nintendo

Well, if this first image is anything to go by, it seems that, on top of making the plants unnaturally colorful, they seem to be using both chromatic aberration as well as some wavy distortion effect.
I could imagine that this distortion is their way of showing some kind of invisible color in the air. Like, a color that isn’t even on our spectrum so we can’t see it but we can see how it distorts the light around it. Kinda like how the gravity of black holes can warp images of space.

>Cast: Nicolas Cage

So it's 50/50 as to whether or not this is kino.

Attached: honk.jpg (502x600, 84K)

>Nicholas Cage
Ah... it's a comedy then.

It should be presented as what was shown in Annihilation with the shimmer but with violent or jarring spacial distortions, not what looks like something that came out of a Dr. Seuss book. The color entity was supposed to be jarring and unpleasant to behold, this is the opposite.

That or a violent flickering of colors, like T.V static.

>Eldritchwave

Wait, they're making this? First I've heard of it.
Fuck Mountains of Madness.

Just my own idea for getting around the color issue but how about framing the film as black & white then introducing the color as a rainbowy, shifting neon presence akin to oil?

nothing. if it's not in the visible spectrum then it's not visible.

>we want the Annihilation audience

dumbasses the answer is nothing. however if you close your eyes at night and visualise as you start to fall asleep you will see colors that seem implausible. these are like the so called impossible colors that you can't see because your cells receptive field's overlap (blue light triggers the green and red cells a bit but in your semi-dream you might see something like pure-cell-blue).

and the whole point of these ans half the lovecraft shit is you can't describe it you just see/feel/know it and go oh
like explaining red to a person who's only ever seen black and white isn't going to get it across

that's a good one. I'm surprised this isn't a thing

What are the odds they are going to pussy out on killing the family?

All but one of them will die. Probably the eldest sibling character

yeah that was my first thought as well. I'm not complaining though.

good idea

Errm, this looks exactly like Annihilation, what were they thinking?

>the major hook of the story is that one cannot physically imagine the literal color out of space
that isn't the major hook of the story tho. it is the main thing about the mosnter design but the fact it is uniamginabke doesn't make the story work and be spooky. The main hook is how it is an energy vampire that slowly make characters mad and kills them by slowly turning them grey and everything. You can show the colour is alien enough in a movie to be servicable.

is this a dick plant in the screenshot?

Looks like it's pink, maybe magenta.

>richard stanley
>nicholas cage

What could go wrong,i'm so hyped

oh its gonna be 100% kino we just dont know why type of kino yet.

I fucking hope someone has filmed the making of

wicked catch user

so annihilation but not shit?

It looks like a real bone chilling stomach wrenching slow burn. Is A24 involved with it?

The Whisperer in Darkness when?

i see a dick from mile away broski

Blue

Don't even @ me

The HPLHS version is pretty good already imo

So, the color out of space looks like the inside of a soap bubble?

plaid

Holy fuck it's gonna be hilarious when this comes out and Yea Forums is gonna spam it with "annihilation ripoff" and pretend they didn't spam annihilation threads with "it's a stalker ripoff"

hilarious shit

But the movie is already out?

Attached: file.png (1000x1373, 981K)

colors just repeat but at higher or lower vibrations, like the musical scales.

What a reddit suggestion

lol just make it invisible. make it so the characters can see it and react to it or be effect by it but to us theres nothing there. made add an explanation in that makes it so only people who are physically near it can detect it

no

What if color...came from sound?
>*ear shattering fart noise*

a bag of sand

it's already been done. why would they do the same thing again

What a dumb fucking idea to make an adaptation of this. The whole premise is a weird and mysterious meteor that glows in colours never before seen, imagine thikning it'd be a good idea to make it fucking purple.

Also, vintage Volvo? So it takes place post 1970? No Lovecraft adaptation should be outside the period it is set in, part of its appeal foggy New England with red brick houses and old Salem witch trial style towns, or creepy turn of the century fisheries.

I swear to Christ, they better not show Pierce mercy killing Mrs. Gardener or show her be some scary monster looking thing that just attacks him. The terror of that scene is in how little the act of him killing her is described or given thought.

t. Screenshotliker

>Mayor is a redskin
Howard would have done an Arthur Jermyn and set fire to the whole fucking rodeo, son.

>no trailer
what the hell is their problem

Annihilation

>The Hound
That was literally shit. Dream Quest to Unknown Kadath is by far the best story.

This won't work in a modern setting

pass

> So it takes place post 1970?
Probably set in the 80s and trying to ride the retro wave. Nauseated yet?

>part of its appeal foggy New England with red brick houses and old Salem witch trial style towns, or creepy turn of the century fisheries.
Good luck trying to sell that setting to contemporary audiences.

>literally Suramar
Good I miss Legion.

>Probably set in the 80s and trying to ride the retro wave. Nauseated yet?
the minute I clapped eyes on the oversized plaid shirt and the muh stranger things swedish automobile retrowave crap. Fucking piss on this adaptation, and it has a NAtive American as the Mayor of the town, HP would take a shit if he knew.

>Good luck trying to sell that setting to contemporary audiences.
Why not? The VVitch did well I beleive, we should have some starched collar and bowler hat classics professor as a lead, like Indiana Jones but he never becomes a chad and just stays as a Doctor of Archeology.

what audience? lol

This is the only movie I'm looking forward to atm
>lovecraft
>nicholas cage
match made in heaven

>The VVitch did well I beleive
\/\/itch made 20 million global, it was only successful because the cast and crew agreed to be paid in sand\/\/iches by a24. Period horror only does well on the small screen and even then it's niche.

deepfried it with shitty bot

Attached: Cagefried.jpg (1920x1080, 50K)

Well maybe. I can see why movie (((studios))) immediately pick the 80s vibe, it's for the shekels, but from our point of view (people who give a shit about the film) it is an abysmal choice.

I want a 1922 in Boardwalk Empire attire and sets, but when they go downt he pier to talk about whisy, they see a shambling horror on the sandy ebach cst only in moonlight. Kino.

Just saw the trailer for this. Was it kino?

>I want a 1922 in Boardwalk Empire attire and sets, but when they go downt he pier to talk about whisy, they see a shambling horror on the sandy ebach cst only in moonlight. Kino.
That's about as likely as getting another verne-style steampunk adventure (i.e. the best you're going to get is amateur short films and animations on youtube). Some times you just have to make peace with the fact that most people are plebs and will refuse to try anything outside of the ordinary.

I 100% agree, but that doesn't mean my preference isn't the RIGHT way to do Lovecraft, it's just that it isn't the way it'll ever be done.

Cut the lenses off your eyes and find out user.

curiosity.com/topics/monet-may-have-been-able-to-see-ultraviolet-light-curiosity/

You can be right and also give into bottomless despair.

As Lovecraft has taught us so well ;)

official artwork lads

I hope they make it as acidic as Mandy

Do Dunwich Horror next

According to vidya it's cyan.

based

yummy

not that user but i cant for the love of fuck find a place to watch it

>its a color I recognize
>seeing it doesn't drive me insane

Dropped.

rutracker

looks bad

Well you would need eyes that could see it to know, so...I don't know.

Literally impossible for humans to comprehend

I remember liking the opening, especially when the scientists are trying to analyze fragments of the meteor, but it devolves into horror cliches of people twitching and moving erratically to dissonant string music. Filming it in black and white so that the color could appear as an actual color was a really neat idea though. Pic related is also pretty lousy, as is the loose Brit adaptation from the '60s. Guess we'll see if the new one continues the trend.

Attached: 75675.jpg (1088x1384, 530K)

Deer see in UV and the world is colored like a covenant capital ship to them

Well it's easily one of the best adaptations of Lovecraft, but that's not saying much.

>t. havent read the story
looking at the colour didnt drive anyone crazy retard. everyone eatched it and saw its glimmer in the objects and ceops around the far
it was weird and alien but the fact it was indescribable didn't make it scary, the way it transformed and destroyed everything was

I'm mean of course it is, it's Hollywood after all. The movie will probably have a BITCHIN' retrowave soundtrack as well!

>movie reaching the end of the third act
>"thank god we defeated The Colour Out of Space™, but what exactly was it doing to the soil?"
>ground starts rumbling suddenly, and violently splits open
>C'thulhu rises from the crater, "BRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!"

>boom, credits

I read it years ago. Its not my fault it was one of the less memorable stories. Its also not my fault you can't recognize a joke or resist the temptation to call someone else an idiot in a language you can barely speak.

pic related is mandatory to watch before you judge this movie. Richard Stanley is exactly what hpl adaptation needs

Don't forget the shoehorned love story and hamfisted social/political allegory. Can't wait!

anything with nyarlathotep id welcome. dreams of the witch house is one of my favs along with dunwitch horror

I could tell you were joking a bit but it upsets me when all the lovecraftian redditors talk how everything hpl related must be undescribable and cannot be ever put on screen when that's not true at all

There's this Masters of Horror adaptation of Dreams at Witch-House and it is veryvery good. Brown Jenkins is super creepy in it

>I just don't know how this can be successfully adapted to film when the major hook of the story is that one cannot physically imagine the literal color out of space
the same way it's written in the story retard.

All you fucking plebs probably don't even know who Richard Stanley is. He's literally an insane druid that lives in a island in the middle of nowhere. He put a curse on Val Kilmer after he ruined his movie (and look at Val now maybe it worked lmao), when he was pitching Dr Moreau his warlock friends performed a blood ritual or something so it would get made, just listen to any interview with the guy he has fucking amazing stories. Not to mention back in the day he was a super interesting up and coming filmmaker before his career got fucked. I'm really looking forward to seeing this.

Attached: hardware.png (1366x768, 534K)

thiss based double dubs, people are RETARDED. It's color isn't in any way important to the efficiency of the story. It would be cool but you can hint at it anyway.

Fucking digging it.

are his first twi movies any good? I haven't seen them

poor special effects and no soul

>no soul
Documentary about the director is literally called Lost Soul as it describes how his dear projext lost the soul he put into it

Yes. Make sure to watch the directors cut of Dust Devil, Weinstein cut the theatrical version.

Unironically neck yourself

It's from the director of Mandy right? It will be shit

ill chekc it out thank you user i bought the full book collection on amazon and its the best thing i own

depends, whats the running time?

110 mins
