Yes his anger is exaggerated when he breaks the games and everything, but the observations themselves about why the games suck have clearly always derived from his own mind, and Mike's. Everything he says as the Nerd that isn't very obviously exaggerated anger is something he could just as easily say as James, especially back in the beginning when James himself was generally dissatisfied with life.
