Cliff's a low-key psychopath, they're a favorite of Tarantino's. You'll find at least one in every one of his movies - these are people who murder at the drop of a hat, sometimes with justification sometimes not, but never entirely for sadistic reasons, yet are not in the least bit affected by the action.

That just means he's even more ascended. Past human virtues and the aversion toward mortality.

When rick fired him, he didnt make it about himself or try to make him feel bad. He just told rick he was making a good plan for himself and wanted to drink with him to celebrate their friendship, even though he was fucked by having 0 job opportunities

He didnt want rick to visit him in the hospital, since he wanted rick to enjoy his night. That selfless sacrifice is what let rick get into the tate house and back into hollywood

As for the bruce Lee thing, he didnt provoke a fight, he just laughed at the notion of beating Muhammad ali. Lee was the one who kept pressing him after that

You can do all of those things and still be a psychopath. Look at how he lived his life outside his relationships with people he cared about - slumming in a shitty part of town, doesn't take care of his place, if he didn't have Rick to hang out with all day and give him things to do it's likely he would have put a gun in his mouth. Someone who is self-destructing that hard is going to relish the opportunity to unleash destructive urges on people he sees deserve it, and that's psychopathic.

The key to Cliff is spelled out in the car ride to Spahn Ranch when he says something like "Prison's been trying to get me my whole and it's not about to for some poon tang."

Regardless of whether or not he killed his wife, he knew how lucky he was to beat the rap for her death. And he knew how lucky he was to have a job because of Rick when everybody else wanted to blackball him. He even got that he had a personality which attracted trouble. Any day outside of prison is a good day, which is why he's content with his shitty life in the mobile home.

There was this cool movie called Stuntman. it featured stuntmen but it was a movie within movie. Probably not something Cliff would like.

But perhaps people like Cliff and Rick cared about actors' appearance more than director's style
