Blue Velvet

Why is this considered to be great? I think it's perfectly decent and good but i don't understand what makes it so great. So what's Yea Forums's opinion on Blue Velvet and David Lynch in general?

I agree. It’s completely fine, if overrated, as is Wild At Heart. Twin Peaks (before Season 2 goes to shit) and FWWM are perfect, though. I’m like that with a lot of acclaimed movies, though. Think I’m just an autist and only properly enjoy really weird shit

I've always put Blue Velvet on the lower end of the Lynch spectrum, if only because nearly everything he does with it he would end up doing better with Twin Peaks.

HEINEKEN?

My favorites are inland empire and lost highway

Also, is there any cut that combines the newly released deleted footage with the movie?

I agree. Good but not great. Twin Peaks, Wild at Heart and Lost Highway are my favorite from him.

I bet you drink Heineken.

it's a lynch flavored noir flick that takes place in a (seemingly) nice, little town instead of a traditional big, isolating city and starring a naive, wholesome all-american college kid instead of a jaded detective. It's very unique.

Hopefully yes, i just made this thread because i'm planning to rewatch it tomorrow.

zoomers dont understand lynch since he changed the face of cinema. every single director copied him, classic example of being groundbreaking seeming meh now

great acting, that's it.

Was jeffrey raped?

Kek

How did he change the face of cinema?

great film but too melodramatic at parts. dennis hopper is just too good as frank booth.

shaved its eyebrows off and stretched it and lit it from below with a torch

I wouldn't say it's too melodramatic. It's a stylistic decision that adds to the dreamlike feeling.

What i am wondering though is what lynch's intention is. For example, is the end scene supposed to be sincere or is the message of hope conveyed through such a soap lense with a mechanical bird supposed to be deeply absurd?
