obviously horror films that emphasis mood and atmosphere and have some sort of depth to them (polanski, kiyoshi kurosawa, val lewton/rko productions, etc.) are superior to the saw films or whatever, but the use of the phrase "slow-burn" is such a pseudo tell. literally every time you look at the post history of some redditor who won't shut up about how much they love slow burns and how hereditary is the greatest horror movie ever made, you find that they watch utter trash. hereditary isn't a bad film, but it is baby's first mature horror, and that's why its fan base is so insufferable. for once they liked something that wasn't literally focus grouped to appeal to retards, and they need to make sure everyone knows it.

hammer horror productions -- the frankenstein series is great. only the first two dracula films are good imo, but all the frankenstein ones are interesting, would particularly recommend frankenstein created woman and frankenstein must be destroyed. the devil rides out and captain kronos are the best stand-alone titles.
and stuff like the shining, the exorcist, texas chainsaw massacre, etc. is obvious, but they belong on any list like this, too.
