Why was Frasier not a massive network + cable syndication juggernaut, DVD/digital downloads sales leader, nor a modern day streaming hit like other NBC sitcom contemporaries such as Seinfeld, Friends, and The Office?

Friends and Seinfeld are more kino

frazier is cringe

Frasier used to be syndicated just as often as Friends and Seinfeld.

Society got dumber. You need to have a modicum of knowledge about psychology to enjoy Frasier. It's not something most normies are able to sit down and turn their brains off and watch 10 episodes in a row the way Friends is.

>mfw can't even watch Frasier on Canadian Netflix

>You need to have a modicum of knowledge about psychology to enjoy Frasier
I disagree
>It's not something most normies are able to sit down and turn their brains off and watch 10 episodes in a row the way Friends is.
I agree

>Frasier used to be syndicated just as often as Friends and Seinfeld.

Not exactly.

On network tv, yes you would see an episode late at night on the WB or Fox.

On cable, the latter three were TBS staples, airing many times a day and drawing millions of viewers. Frasier was not. It was relegated to TVland.

Seinfeld made $3 billion, Friends $1 billion a year. Frasier is nowhere near that, especially in the past decade

Isnt this show that brian was trying to force peter to watch .

frasier was huge at one point and had reruns all day but just didnt have the same lifespan as the 3 you mentioned, which are some of the most successfully syndicated sitcomes in the past 30 years

no, i remember in roughly 1999-2001 era, it would be on all afternoon. because my sisters would just leave it on

>has sisters
imagine the smell

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Frasier. The humour is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical psychology most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer’s head.

LOL, they won't blame STD which was the one they sunk money into which in turn garnered practically zero subscribers.

Picard won't do the trick either, CBS all access is dead.

Well in all fairness, the show was still airing at that point and at the peak of it's popularity

disney will buy them out within 5 years

Fraiser was the BBT of its day, in that it's a sitcom that appeals to pseuds by throwing around concepts and words more advanced than a third grade reading level to fool the people who watch it into thinking they are intelligent. The only thing separating Frasier from BBT is the former appeals to midwit boomers, where as the latter appeals to the "I fucking love science" millennial crowd. See for proof

Retard doesn't realize that it was making fun of pseuds the entire time kek

>he doesn’t have cbs all access solely for big brother live feeds

I want to fuck Roz so bad

It's scary how accurate this is. This shit really is the rick and morty of the 90s.

The beauty of Frasier:
- Low trivia people laughed at the two prissy men suffering the outcomes of their poor decisions.
- High trivia people enjoyed not only the above, but also the references to Art/Psychology/History.

The show worked well for both types of people, but wasn't a braindead laughtrack (zimbabwe) format.
And wasn't Frasier syndicated a lot on television? Didn't even Lifetime channel show it? Assumed it was going to end up on Nick at Night / TV Land with Cheers.

yes

Yea it's still in syndication, I thank the Halmark channel plays like 4 hour blocks of it daily

"Which is better: Frasier vs Friends" was a common discussion back then. The two both aired on NBC's Must See Thursday nights, so didn't have to compete with each other. In fact, the beauty of that line-up was getting two different types of viewers on that channel.

lmao Halmark

How did he get 22 seasons out of Frasier? 11 seasons of cheers and 11 seasons of Frasier

Nice spacing, cunt

Frasier isn't highbrow at all lmao, I'm a retard and I understood all the references.

I have it on cravetv, which also has seinfeld.

Xfinity just told me Frasier is in fact playing next on Hallmark at 2AM. Only three hours not four though.

Wasn't there discussion of bringing it back?

Lmao. 2 hours actually. At 2 AM. On Hallmark. And it gets pre-empted two months out of the year for Christmas programming.

Not exactly a syndication cashcow. Especially when Friends airs a good 20 episodes a day across 4 different major cable networks, largely in high viewership timeslots.

and what did Xfinity tell you about those digits?

cringe

Frasier is one of my favorite sitcoms, after the first season. I think a lot of it has to do with people thinking you need to be smarter to "get" it. While it's insanely clever, the majority of the show is poking fun at how dumb, out of touch, or pretentious they are. It's just misunderstood, I usually tell people to start on season 2, that's when they found their footing and it's incredible from there on.

Are you like 80 years old?

Attached: 1536973064868.png (376x341, 103K)

Seems like it was close, maybe 2/3 of the way there, but Frasier just wasn't a very good show.

Frasier only aired on Must See TV for Season 1 and like Season 7/8 around the time of the Niles/Daphne saga when it replaced Seinfeld.

The rest of the time it shuffled around Tuesdays.

no

vpn you hyper twat
I'm guessing the same service that has letterkenny is gating it the same way CBS all access fucked us over on Star Trek Discovery. Good thing that show was actually bad.

waste of digits

>Herman comics
It's Gary Larson's Far Side you blind man.

If you don't think that episode where Frasier doesn't realize he's in a gay relationship with Patrick Stewart is absolute hilarious kino then I refuse to consider you as a person. Your opinions are all bad and I wouldn't believe you if you said water was wet.

Oh shi- my bad then.

frasier was to smart to become a hit among normies

frasier is based confirmed

ah-bloo-bloo

Well baby I hear the blues a comin

Frasier is for middlebrow pseuds.
Seinfeld can be enjoyed by big brains and half wits alike.

Attached: seinfeld.jpg (700x437, 151K)

>You need to have a modicum of knowledge about psychology to enjoy Frasier.
Eh, I dont think thats true. All of Frasier's references are to the most surface-level stuff that most normies would recognize. Maybe young normies are just turned off because they assume it would be overly intellectual and boring. When really it's a pretty standard but well-written comedy of errors.

what a waste

>that most normies would recognize
Most normies back then would recognize. You have to factor in how retarded millenials are. Also Frasier touched on emotional issues a little more seriously than stuff like Friends did. With Friends you can sup up the emotional issues with shit like WE WERE ON A BREAAAAAAAK. It's a little easier than having to digest something like the relationship between Frasier and his Father. I wasn't saying that Frasier is some super intelligent show for smart people. But the content and issues the show addresses is just different and not conducive to mindless streaming. You have to pay attention while you watch it.

I'd argue that Seinfeld is a more intelligent show than Frasier, because it managed to achieve this

Seinfeld is so comfy

Because Frasier was a shit spinoff of a good show: Cheers.

Because it makes fun of limousine liberals.

This
Interesting this about Seinfeld is it is actually less formalica than Frazier. Also, rare for sitcoms, jokes and stories build through out the episode, most Seinfeld episodes are not as funny if you do not see the beginning .
Real intellectuals read books and go to concerts, they do not watch sitcoms /about/ characters that read books and go to concerts.

Attached: 20AAF151-AD3A-448E-9C3E-5210A9CC65A8.png (1229x626, 271K)

An example of a Seinfeld build. The hat, cane and coat can from 3 different story lines.
Where if you walk in halfway in a frasier episode, you might not understand the background plot, you would still get all the formulaic jokes.
Seinfeld has real Greek play quality to it, plots develop and the jokes are from the plot,
most Seinfeld jokes you can not copy and paste into another episode, think about that for awhile

>Ah, you Jungians.

>Fraiser was the BBT of its day
DELET THIS

it's so bizarre that these 90's sitcoms are such a huge battleground and a crucial deciding factor in determining which stream service will come out on top in the 2020s.

Or this.
youtube.com/watch?v=ezrJM5uQ_s8

Normies want to binge sitcoms with characters they identify with and feel familiar, not a show about two pretentious high-society psychologists whose main driving comedic force is their inability to connect to common people.

There are good episodes but the show is not good.

This is correct, if I find out someone likes Friends I'll think they're a plebe but if they like Frasier I'll think about caving in their skull.

Well you obviously have inside knowledge of psychiatry ... sotto voce ... just not from the profesional end.

I loved Fraiser but in undoubtedly true.

>Everyone says Frasier is smart
>Watch it
>All the jokes are just references
>It's basically Big Bang Theory but opera and wine instead of video games and comics
>No smart jokes at all, just references to smart things

Have you ever watched a Frasier episode? Most episodes are predicated on dramatic irony or a series of increasingly improbable misunderstandings that build on each other. You almost definitely cannot walk in halfway through a Frasier episode and understand the jokes.

People are just reliving out thier youth. Like Star Trek reruns being so powerful in the 90s

Good call

>Maris is like the Sun, but without the warmth

I don't think so, but who's Romano?

this is wrong. My dad is an electrician, I'm a white collar [X]analyst and we both understand Frasier just fine. The psychology references are basic as fuck (and can easily be figured out from context anyway), and a lot of the "smart" dialogue is essentially the "[technobabble]" from Star Trek, just fancypants-themed, even if it facially does make sense. You're an out of touch, self-centered pseudointellectual if you think fucking Frasier is beyond the grasp of the common man.
You can absolutely turn your brain off and watch 10 episodes in a row -- I spent a whole summer doing just that back when I was in uni

normalfags don't like it because it doesn't revolve around normalfags living egotistical rootless cosmopolitan lives like Friends and Seinfeld

Frasier is still syndicated regularly in the UK every weekday morning and is still fondly watched by millions. I've never enjoyed any other American sitcoms as much as Frasier, though I admint Seinfeld is a good show.

I don't understand this. How is Friends so popular even today??
Both it and Frasier ended at the same time.

huh, what a coincidence, i had a dream last night where I fucked Roz in a supermarket

and 90s born queers

Most of the bottles of wine and such aren't even real for legal reasons. They always however have pretentious stupid names to poke fun at the liberal american aristocracy. The Martin character is often there just to shit on their sensibilities. They don't donate money to help people for example, so much as to have people see them donating it.

Roz isn't particularly hot, but for some reason I really really want to give her a hard fucking

>TFW literally Frasier
>All of my suffering is my own fault because I choose to do the right thing rather then just pursue hedonistic pleasure

How many times did Niles get cucked in the show? Counting all the times he was in love with Daphne and she was fucking random chads

>a supermarket
is that a euphemism?

Frasier cockbloked him so many fucking times that you would think he was Daphne's fat, annoying friend.

Not phone, large thin iPad, which is the kino browsing experience.

No, it was literally just a supermarket. I don't know why. Dreams are strange.

Frasier was huge in its day. Kelsey Grammer was the first actor to be paid a million an episode. He was also the highest paid TV actor for years. The damn dog got paid 300k per episode. It had 11 seasons.

You clearly have no understanding of the word "cucked". End yourself.

he deserves it for shacking up with Maris and sustaining her with his life force. That's a debt to society that can't be repaid

based Moose. Imagine all the treats and bitches he could get with that cashola

Because Frasier fell off significantly ratings-wise in the last few years and even then, it had a more restricted demographic of viewership compared to say, Friends.

But Frasier didn't like him. It's almost as if the article writer is talking through their asshole.

He died of alzheimers years ago, but his son took over on the show

legacy determines quality not his paycheck

it’s shitty

Still not remotely true.

He did, but he hid it well because of his contempt for his father. Watch that episode where him and Sherry basically ruin how much of a player he could be in that sky apartment. I'd be a dick to my dad and his girlfriend too in that circumstance. Hell, I despised Sherry and I'm nearly the polar opposite of the Frasier character aside from my education.

Even as a kid I liked Frasier. You don't need to be an intellectual to get it. And like most comedy half the joke is in the delivery. Even if you don't understand the reference it can still be funny.

Fuck me meant to reply to this sorry-

Cheers is better than Frasier

It is if you're in your forties, and that for me is a good decade away. It reminds me of when my parents were young but otherwise it's only good because they had to film it in front of an audience. Theater and film coinciding in a perfect medium. They don't do that anymore because executives don't leave things to chance now. They just leech off of things that do.

Joking aside, if Niles wouldn't have been such a slimy pussy, he could have gotten Daphne way earlier. It wasn't until he grew as a man did she start to come around.

You always say the same bullshit, fuck off brainlet. BBT is for retards, but you are such a simp that you think their jokes are "pseudo-intellectual"

My family loved this show. My parents were blue collar hard worker, and they laughed a lot with Niles and Frasier.

It's the character dynamics and the delivery, not a single shitty comedic actor in the main cast. Still to this day it's our favourite sitcom. My parents even have the complete series on DVD and watch it every now and then.

Also, that fucking episode where the brothers buy the restaurant and want to make it an exclusive hipster place

Niles: We'll make it very exclusive.
Frasier: No sign, no advertising, and an unlisted phone number.
Martin: And you could post guards on the roof to shoot people as they try to get in!

>You need to have a modicum of knowledge about psychology to enjoy Frasier.
Kelsey spent most of his time on set drunk off his ass, especially in later seasons. There was nothing "high brow" about it.

Friends seems to be more popular than Seinfeld for Indians (at least on the internet) because:

1. Seinfeld runtime: 1989–1998 and Friends runtime: 1994–2004. Internet started to gain popularity in late 90s (In India: early 00s). Seinfeld has less overlap with internet as compared to Friends (especially in India). That explains the online popularity of Friends.

2.We Indians are inherently emotional beings. Friends has a linear storyline with a lot of emotional situations and interpersonal relationships between characters. Seinfeld, not so much. People could empathise with the heartwarming romance between Rachel-Ross, etc.

3. Friends had a more likeable/good-looking cast. Short, bald men, who live with their parents aren’t that attractive (:p).

4. Friends was a conventional show. Seinfeld was completely uncompromising and a lot more intelligent. Jerry, Elaine, George, and Kramer were petty, Narcissistic, cheap, and short-sighted. They were just like us (maybe slightly more exaggerated). Friends on the other hand, had an elegant cast. People in friends were more caring and moral, they behaved as all of us want to/ should in a high-standard society.

P.S. (Well, that's just, like, my opinion, man): There are two kinds of Sitcom lovers. Those who think Friends is better than Seinfeld and those who have actually watched Seinfeld.

jesus seinfeld fans are embarrassing

watched that episode last night absolute kino

>when Roz nearly blows up the restaurant

I'm rewatching it right now. It's still hilarious.

Frasier: Oh Niles guess what, a thriving nightspot is closing its doors.
Niles: Roz, you're moving!

Roz licks Nails' valuable copy of a John Steinbeck novel for revenge.

Characters like Martin and Roz were made specially to appeal "dumb" people. Same with pure excrement characters like Simon, Daphne mother and Bulldog.

>Simon
>not the maddest of lads and the bright spot of the later seasons

also Bulldog is GOAT tf you talking about fool

Except Frasier was kino

Told you

Seinfeld made more money than friends? In my country I've never seen seinfeld on tv but friends still run everu day on comedy central and it used to run often on major network too

The entire initial concept of the show was the clash between high culture (Frasier and Niles) and "low" culture (Martin, Daphne, Roz) which itself was just a more focused version of what Cheers did with Sam/The Barflys and Diane/Frasier.

it’s more like the big bang theory of the 90s

i'm sure those countries spend a fortune for the rights

Nah Seinfeld is more an American thing, the international numbers are nowhere near as good.

But Friends was indeed a juggernaut worldwide.

I somewhat see what you mean, but I always felt Fraiser was making fun of the pseudo intellectuals. They had an honest hard working cop as a father who constantly made fun of his sons needlessly flaunting their education while being dimwits about the most common sense things. Meanwhile BBT has Penny as an everyman and she's as dumb as any of the "nerds". BBT is supposed to be a show about smart people nerds and we're supposed to cheer them as as fellow smart people nerds. Not to mention Fraiser never pretended to be anything more than a sitcom. Maybe in today's "nerd culture" we'd see it praised as some kind of nerd show for nerds. I just remember thinking of it as a spinoff from Cheers with that snooty psychologist who moved out of Boston.

Frasier killed in the UK and Canada but you have to actually know how to spell your name to watch.

Yeah, Frasier was also bigger than Seinfeld in Europe.

Once on vacation there, it was even exclusive Pay TV content. Don't remember which country it was though.

Because it's objectively good. I have never understood the hate it gets here or why it became a thing to shit on it. Friends and Seinfeld are GOAT sitcoms.

Probably Spain or Portugal.
I don't like Europeans much. Or else I don't like how they make you pay to use toilets because they aren't resourceful enough to create central plumbing systems with aquifers and also think it's okay that their roads are the same once their ancestors used for carriages. Before dynamite and oh I don't know, about everything we did in the US? How dare we invent the flat screen, the car, central plumbing, and not fucking your sister in the bushes.

Simon and Daphne's mum were shit, but there's nothing wrong with Bulldog.

Kek.

It was Spain, yes. They're ok, though a bit noisy. Great things to see there (Segovia castle was awesome), and I actually like that they still have in some places those old roads and villages.

France however, I remember as a nightmare. I could feel the contempt everywhere. Still to this day the only country where they laughed when I tried to speak to them in their language. Every other fucking country is helpful and goes out of its way to try to understand you.

>Frasier killed in the UK and Canada
>Yeah, Frasier was also bigger than Seinfeld in Europe.

The only people I've ever met IRL who liked Frasier and were under 40 were three random British exchange students in college and this dude from Germany. Apparently, Seinfeld related content/screengrabs are popular as a meme template on social media but most people haven't really watched it.

>Martin: Oh, yeah, Loretta.
>Martin shows Frasier the picture. Frasier looks — and his eyes nearly pop out of his skull. As Martin replaces the picture, Frasier shifts his own behind in the air, trying to imagine how somebody could be that circumferencially blessed.

>OK, where's the french fries? I ordered french fries! THIS STINKS! THIS IS TOTAL BS! Oh, here they are.
"lol so funny xD"

NOTHING can compare to standing German castles. I visited the ruins of my own Family's castle in England. Is what it is.

After Napoleon?
Nobody likes the French.

>CBS complains that a show they basically got for free for syndication is not making money
NBC literally fucking did all the work for them, all they did was actually own the show.

Frasier says that. Sometime in season 1 I think.

that’s not an argument my friend :)

In retrospect that's probably a better deal too because NBC made ad money from it (probably a decent sum during Seasons 1, 6-8, and the last part of Season 11), but CBS will collect revenue on that shit forever now. Even though it's lost a lot of value in the past 10 years in terms of syndication/streaming/DVD sales whatever, it will still conceivably continue to bring in some money for at least the next 20 years.

We are arrogant pricks that 100% think your country is 3rd world if you can't provide us with a good toilet and fresh water. Also fuck you, that's 100% fair and step-up.

Hmm.

>Frasier is in syndication. It's on several channels even today.
see:

Frasier didn't cater to pseuds it mercilessly mocked them. You're just retarded is all.

In the US perhaps but it's on at least three channels in my country.

Where do you live?

Canada

Frasier's mainstream appeal was inherently limited by its premise. Your average Joe isn't going to "connect" with two snooty high Seattle society psychiatrists, one of whom is a minor celebrity. Martin, Roz, and Daphne did help on that front, and the show was funny enough and the acting good enough that it was a huge success anyways, but people weren't going to react to it the same way they reacted to Friends.

In my country's TV syndication:
>Seinfeld
1 episode a night, sometimes 2
>Friends
1 episode a night, usually a bit later
>Frasier
1 episode a night, with weekend Sunday mini-marathons replaying all the episodes aired from the week
>Everybody Loves Raymond
2 episodes a night, with mini-marathons Friday nights and Sunday evenings. This show is very popular here for some reason.

Everyone I've met that loves Friends is a woman and average to below average IQ

The most curious thing is the cable syndication part. Why did it take until 2008 for it to even get on cable networks at all?

Why did TBS or Nick at Nite or Comedy Central never pick up Frasier for reruns? I don't get it. Those are the BIG channels for comedy. They made their brand on late 80s/90s/early 00s sitcom reruns, so why was Frasier confined to TV Land for a few years before being dropped and eventually picked up by the Hallmark Channel for dead-of-night reruns.

What did Friends and Two and Half Men and George Lopez and Seinfeld and King of Queens and The Office and Just Shoot Me and any number of other shows have over Frasier???

Do you people actually think the show was pretending to be highly educated? Half the show is Niles and Frasier getting shat on for being prissy pseudo-intellectuals

except this doesn't make sense because in BBT the science fellating is unironic whereas in Fraiser his intellect is more often the butt of a joke

this is normie-tier analysis

Cheers fucking drags though and the romance episodes between Sam and Diane were fucking TORTURE

Daphne was fucking great until she hooked up with Niles and got knocked up, get your shit straight

you're 100% correct

half the episodes were about Fraiser learning some sense of humility and coming back down to Earth

anyone who watched his character grow from Cheers would also agree but this board is infested with zoomers
