who?

Will there ever be Slavkino era?

I'm surprised they actually made it. Seems to me like there's no big demand for a film like this.
I think it will flop like Anthropoid did for instance. Shame.

hussites were based, change my mind

Czech New Wave and the 50s-70s era of Czech film got pretty close to it, around the same time Russia and Poland were making some good movies too so I guess that was the era of Slavkino

This new shit in the OP looks like garbage though

>one of the most revolutionary generals
>Fucking awesome stories
>Humiliated the Catholic Church opening the door for the Reformation
The man's a fockin legend

Anthropoid was actually decent.
This one seems like it'll be pretty bad fan-fiction, the story of this movie won't cover the Hussite Wars but rather will involve Jan Zizka cucking Wenceslaus IV by taking his wife (the girl on the left).
And apparently that's the reason why Zizka and Wenceslaus didn't get along in the Hussite Wars, even though Zizka didn't mind Wenceslaus historically, he just thought that he was weak, it was Sigismund that he hated.
Either way it's a shame that they are making it some kind of Jan Zizka backstory that doesn't even take place in the Battle of Grunwald, instead it's some tale of royal cucking that'll probably end with a Hussite Wars sequel tease in the post-credits only for the movie to flop and never have a sequel.
Here's the synopsis apparently
"Jan Žižka is a member of a mercenary group that does dirty work for nobles. His new task is to save King Wenceslaus' beautiful lover Catherine. The situation gets complicated when Žižka personally falls in love with the king's lover."

He was amazing, the Hussite Revolution trilogy was a decent movie trilogy but it had some forced Commie propaganda because it was the only way to release the movie (thankfully it's only for a few lines in the script, then it's never mentioned again).

what exactly is the problem here?

Literally who

See:
It'll basically be pure historical fan-fiction and basically a cuck fantasy that never happened in history.

oh, i see. i thought op was a complaint about the casting.
yeah that's a shame. a jan zizka movie that isn't about the hussite wars. what a gay decision. why would they go this route?

Til Schweiger is one of the worst actors I've ever seen in a big movie and also a huge fucking asshole irl.

What? Zizka dies soon after the war because of the plague no? He's featured with the eyeball lost as well.

what do you mean

There never will be soul like this in slav cinema
especially from 3:40

Czechoslovak New Wave is amazing. Czechoslovakia made fantastic films until their separation. After that Czechs made some comedies which were good like Pelíšky, now most of the production in both Slovakia and Czechia is bad. Sometimes there is a decent film but it's nothing compared to the golden era of Czechoslovakia. Now the Jan Žižka film looks terrible, the director never made anything good. This year Czechs have film in competition in Venice called The Painted Bird. That looks like the most interesting Czech/Slovak film in more than a decade.

>won't cover the Hussite Wars
>Jan Zizka backstory that doesn't even take place in the Battle of Grunwald
Those all sound like budget constrains. Do you know how expensive it is to do big battles? Making a period piece drama about who's fucking who only takes renting a castle of which there are shitloads in Europe and dressing up 10 budget and past their prime actors in semi-accurate clothing. Then if you have the money you can splurge a few millions to do a small skirmish in the middle of the plot just to say you have battle scenes in the movie. There's a reason british tv shits out a couple of those things every year, or at least they used.

Yep, unfortunately. I assume it's for sequel bait or to appeal to Americans that aren't familiar with Czech history. Which is dumb because KCD was a success. The casting is also kind of a problem, Ben Foster just does not look like the experienced Zizka.

Not soon after, he dies a lot more after. Also in this movie he won't lose his eyeball until the end/midway through, the behind the scenes photos confirmed it.

>the director never made anything good
Partially the reason I think the movie will flop and be complete shit. I am certain of it, it feels like a money laundering project.

Hussite wars weren't actually as big as the Battle of Grunwald, so they could've gone with the Hussite Wars and made it easier for themselves. Battle of Vitkov was literally 60 people vs 1000 people. So it could work really well.
Also the budget placed into this movie is huge and some sources call it "the most expensive Czech movie". Plus the 50s Jan Zizka movie and it's sequel had those huge battles. They could've done like those movies and had most of the film be the development and life of the Hussites and then have the big battle at the end. It has nothing to do with budget because the poster literally depicts a huge battle in it. Plus as other posters said, the movie is being made by a director that made some awful modern Czech movies and not a good director either. The problem everyone has is that it's historically inaccurate the scenario being depicted in the movie, a lot of Czech historians are complaining about it.
Not to mention if they cared about budget, they wouldn't have hired Hollywood actors.

Kek, that's possible. I just don't understand why he is directing. I mean it's not like there are any good directors in Slovakia/Czechia right now so maybe he can surprise.

>Also the budget placed into this movie is huge and some sources call it "the most expensive Czech movie"
From what I saw it has a $20 million budget. That would've been more than enough in the 50s where you could've dressed up army conscripts in colorful tarps and have a huge crowd for next to nothing. Now it's either outrageously expensive CGI or even more expensive extras who have to be paid a minimum wage, not to mention the sanitary infrastructure, food and water.
>Not to mention if they cared about budget, they wouldn't have hired Hollywood actors.
Wrong. Making a historically accurate movie is not a guarantee of anything other than some positive reviews from history buffs. Hiring past their prime hollywood actors guarantees butts in cinema seats, especially in 3rd world countries like Czech Republic. It'll also make at least a couple of westerners rent it on VoD or netflix it and see a movie they would have otherwise ignored. It's a smart business decision.

>making a movie with a big setpiece battle for 20 million dollarinos in 2019

Maybe.
>Wrong. Making a historically accurate movie is not a guarantee of anything other than some positive reviews from history buffs.
You're not wrong but making a historically accurate version of the Hussite Wars will also guarantee a more interesting movie story instead of "brave protagonist cucks the evil villain".
You could have most of the movie with Jan Zizka rallying people and making speeches and then leave a battle like Battle of Viktov (which again would not be hard to do in CGI because it is such a small battle to replicate) for the ending. The original 50s movies pretty much had no action until the end, they could literally do the same thing if they are saving up budget. There is no excuse here
> especially in 3rd world countries like Czech Republic
First off. What? Third World Country? It's second world at worst. I wouldn't call it First World but it's not Africa level of poverty. Second off. Czechs are notorious autistic when it comes to historical accuracy, even if the movie has American actors, it'll be shat on for historical inaccuracies. Quite recently there was graffiti in the ancient historical Charles Bridge and the Czech Government through an autistic shitfit over it to the point that a guy that actually tried cleaning it up with water was arrested even though he fixed the problem. What makes things even worse is that Jan Zizka as a historical figure is very polarising because the 50s movies painted him as a communist (it's literally only three or four lines in the movie, but still) so as such Jan Zizka isn't really as proud of a figure as he once was in the pre-WWII era. So by making him an americanised action hero mercenary, it'll probably already piss off a lot of people.
Plus the poster already confirms a big battle in the movie. What's your point here? My complaint here is that they are wasting all that for a lame storyline when they could adapt the historical version with the same budget.
