Spanish Films

I've been trying to get into Spanish cinema lately, does anyone know any good films/directors I should check out?

That one

'errementari' was alright

I liked the original REC films, which served as the basis for the North American remake : Quarantine.

Bigas Luna

Have you seen The Orphanage ( El Orfanato)? It's great.

los santos innocentes is pretty good
>In 1960s Spain, Paco (Alfredo Landa), his wife, Régula (Terele Pavez), and his brother-in-law Azarias (Francisco Rabal) work for slave wages on a large plantation. Paco, a brilliant hunter, tries to use his skills to win over his heartless employers, but his talents earn him little respect. Meanwhile, after the aging Azarias loses his job, he is forced to move in with the Paco, Régula and their three kids, which further complicates the lives of this impoverished family.
the themes about class are sort of meh but the whole film is worth it for the scenes between Francisco Rabal and his birds, incredibly memorable. Luis Bunuel is probably the most famous and influential Spanish director, but most of his best films weren’t made in Spain. Virdiana was made in Spain and is decent, but his masterpieces are probably either Nazarin or The Milky Way

Time crimes

No

that's because you are almost certainly an ignorant, tasteless dilettante who watches exclusively English language films, or even worse, Hollywood films

damn....

idk, Buñuel I guess? Spain isn’t particularly remarkable as far as European cinema goes
>or even worse, Hollywood films
Hollywood has, without exaggeration, probably produced a hundred times more kino than Spain

La Teta y La Luna

Virdiana
Despisa Despisa
Barrios Altos
Atame Atame

I really liked Vacas. It’s a generational story about family conflict in the Basque Country, set amidst Spain’s various civil wars in the late 19th and early 20th century. I love that historical setting, so it really worked for me. Also, Pan’s Labyrinth is definitely worth seeing, even if it’s the one cliche Spanish movie that English speakers enjoy.

Almodovar

Cría Cuervos

>a bunch of retards
I can't watch that, how can you watch that

why not
it's a live-action cartoon, well produced, with rhythm, many jokes work... it can be corny, but never be as corny as Camino, the other award-winning Fesser film

Luis Bunuel, Carlos Saura

Spanish cinema was massively stymied due to Franco

Fesser's best film still is El Milagro de P Tinto

That kid was in another good one, Cria Cuervos. The writer/director is really tuned in to what it's like to be a kid, and how they cope with depression, loss, and inherent helplessness that comes with being a child.

Great post
