So basically the message is never have kids and never get married/a gf?
So basically the message is never have kids and never get married/a gf?
the message is smoke dank kush daily
Also control your drinking and smoking.
The message is don't take those things for granted. Don had everything and didn't realize what he lost until it was too late. It's why Pete made out better in the end. He knew he fucked up with Trudy and wanted to make it right because he didn't want to end up as Don, despite wanting to be him for years.
i can only imagine you're nowhere near finished watching the show if this is your takeaway so far, holy shit
90% of marriages end before 10 years.
80% of divorce cases are initiated by women
Women simply arent capable of love and always look for the next better thing.
Only a retard would get married.
That and don never appreciated anything because don was a character Dick played. He didn't let anyone in because no one even knew who he was. Once the Don character starts falling apart is when he starts letting himself out of his massive shell
lol nice stats retard
The message was don't let pete cambell insult you and get away with it
1x9 here
It's too boring. I don't care about the relationships of the characters. I want business and I'm bored.
can you expand on that with examples please
(You)'re watching the wrong show faggot
good goy
it grows on you as you get to know them and plus the writing/acting fits in, really is one of those shows by the end of season 2 and 3 you will either love it or have no care for it. Keep watching and just be open, i know its not for everyone but it is a great show
Don is un-happy because it isn't himself, he has to play someone else because he hates his past, his childhood and his guilt over becoming Don in a bad way.
Mad Men is fundamentally a show about a man who has no identity. Dick doesnt exist and if he did, its a hard life he doesn't want to remember or live. and neither is he Don, Don is someone else hes trying to be, hes living a life that isn't his nor is it really for him. The show is about his struggle to find who he really is and live with that.
Show it's supposed to be about business and finances. I want my Wall Street + American Psycho show, not some shitty familiar drama. The Sopranos has the same problem.
You're dumb
yeh you dont get Sopranos or Mad Men lol
>Sopranos is about the Mafia
>Mad Men is about business men
I think its time you go back to the capeshit
you had me a little bit until
>he's living a life that isn't his nor is it really for him
this kinda makes me think you didn't understand the show at all
bumping with this
this is bait
Is this show worth watching? I've seen so many people say it's basically a soap opera, and the 7 season lenght intimidates me
I like mafia and business stuff. I don't even watch capeshit. I'm a businessman and I want shows wich reflect my daly life. Even The Office it's better dealing with that.
*sees dead people*
Don is constantly trying to run away from what every life/role he is living at the time, he is constantly switching from California and NY, he constantly jumps from his steady partner To random thots. He is torn between multiple worlds and lives. He jumps from Don to Dick constantly, with each bleeding into each other. He wants to be Don to escape Dick but on the other hand he doesn't want to be Don.
It is a "soap opera" that is well written, well acted, with great sets and costume and actual themes rather than pointless drama that house-wives gag on about. It is a character drama about the human condition for a cliche.
I don't know why, but the pic related episode "The Summer Man" is one of my favourites. It's not particularly important to the whole of the show, but I like Don's inner monologue over the course of it. In particular the line after the girl he's seeing gets out of the car (presumably having blown him during the ride) sticks with me
>I looked up at the Barbizon hotel and thought of all the women in there, one in every room, touching themselves to sleep.
I don't know why but that line is burned into my brain, it has a real ethereal quality to it for me
The message is that the successes of post ww2 america are driven by pathology.
Its a sick society where many involved can barely believe that they are part of a society. Infact theconcept of "society" in america is controversial.
America is a failed experiment.
I thought the message was depression hits all of us
Season 4 is where Mad Men finds it moment, 1 and 2 are good, 3 is the momentum, 4 onwards is when it has its signature.
so he went back to mccan and made the coke commercial with peggy and had a wholesome career for the rest of his life right`?
Based.
Business >>> shit >>>>>>>>>> drama
Well put, I agree
K I N O
I also love that episode for the same reason. I wish we could have gotten a few more introspective episodes with Don like that.
yes basically, he found his peace, he was alright
at least watch until the end of s1, the finale has one of the most iconic scenes of the show if not the entirety of television
do you mean this?
yes
t. Brad colbert
nope, just another relapse in a line of many.
I still watch this every other month even after all this time of mad men finishing
It was actually quite literally "just be yourself bro"
The message is "computers are turning people into homos"
Ginsberg was right
Just stick with it. The business stuff picks up more towards the second half of season 2. The first season had to set up a lot of the characters and relationships. But ultimately, it is a show about characters, not plot.
based peggy
Why would the number of seasons intimidate you? It's not a job. You don't HAVE to finish if you don't like it. And if you do like it, you'll wish there were more seasons.
Nah, the setting in which Mad Men takes place is indicative of a proto-version our own society, with holdovers from previous periods.
These types of retro shows venerate the perceived positive aspects (novel fashion/technology, feminism, hedonism) and heavily demonize the perceived negative aspects (racism, demographic homogeneity, suburban family life)
I haven't seen Stranger Things, but I would assume a similar thing is being done to the 1980s.
Point being is that this is a way of crafting our understanding of our past to fit our present, which in turn will influence our expectations of the future.
Any characters utilize in the pursuit of this goal are merely puppets, as are their interactions with other characters.
Truly redpilled
Neither of these stats are correct lmao
I read that in rogers voice lmao
the jew was the only red pilled character, what a turn of events
Jews have a scholarly culture, they're usually quite good at analysing events and creating models.
The message is "Don't try to be something you are not, like Don Draper did", the funny thing is the amount of retards who wants to be exactly like him, or rather the idea of him, they don't understand the whole irony of it: Richard Whitman is pathetic because he's trying so hard to be Don Draper.
best name was SCDP
SC&P is 2nd
And yet they still thought a gas chamber was a shower lol

god mad men was a great show, where the fuck is the next great character drama
Don you’ve done it again.
Watch Billions for business, otherwise kill yourself
Watch succession then brainlet
Absolutely. It has an amazing no-bullshit view on the whole male-female-matter that will open your eyes if you're as oblivious about the whole matter as most people here are.
Clear 10/10, suitable to considerably change the way you look at the world (and even if it doesn't, it's still a damn smooth, fun and stylish show).
It's not as if non-compliance was an option.
This. Don is a neverending story of FUBARing, recovering against all hope, and repeating it again and again. Whether the self-destructive or the genius part of him will end up on top remains open.

Roger was one of the most enjoyable characters I have ever seen on television, every scene with him is fun and entertaining without being over the top
I think if you're not beginning to understand the show at this point you might as well quit. Pearls for swine.
ok i have seen (got), mad men, sopranos, breaking bad, what big show should i watch next? the wire
Wire, Deadwood, Generation Kill, Band of Brothers, Young Pope, Leftovers
Exactly!
Draper wasn't a well person to begin with, screwed by a shitty childhood. Instead of working on himself, he spent his time trying to fit in the image 'society' wanted of him.
He didn't love either of his wives- he loved the image of them, the picket fence and the two kids he never cared about... and then he cheated on them with women who ere more challenging and self-sufficient.
Don didn't have to destroy everything around him, he just needed to be honest with himself.
This should be pretty obvious to every straight male who is not a dumbfuck simp
Was going to ask if I should pick the show back up. I got through the first 3 seasons and just kind of forgot about it, but it sounds like from this thread I should start back up.
Never force yourself to watch a show. Any show. If you don't feel the extreme need to watch "just one more episode" then you're wasting your precious time.
Rewatch it, I watched for the first 2 seasons randomly, never watched it again, then S4 was on Yea Forums, rewatched and from the end of S4 onwards, watched every episode live. Watch each episode with your full attention and give it your time and care, it is a fantastic show, it definitely grows as the seasons go on and you often get an appreciation for the first 2/3 seasons once it hits it stride in 3/4, Season 4-7 are amazing television.
that being said, this guy is right.
forcing yourself to watch a show doesnt work unless you really brute force it and even then it doesn't have the same effect as if you naturally watch it.
Do you have that article (in two parts) from some blog explaining exactly why wanting to be like Don Draper is absurd by any chance?
The only times Don cracks for the viewer is when experiences of Dick Whitman are brought up. His real self.
And no, Don doesnt change. The ending is literally his marketing magnum opus.
it gets good 25 hours in trust me bro
>a shot of two dogs fucking in the middle of the romantic song
every time
