When I first started pirating movies as a kid video rental stores had ceased to exist, Netflix wasn't a thing, and the movies were vastly overpriced: Dawn of the Dead (1970s) for example was 17 bucks. So my only option to watch movied was to hope and pray it was on one of digital cable channels, which it never was. Pirating was easier and infintely cheaper, and by the time streaming and what not became viable I had long learned about the JQ and what a bunch of degenerate monsters and hypocrites worked in Hollywood, so I have even less compulsion to pay the Jew.

The reason why Hollywood is producing low tier stories right now is because they're shifting their focus to a global market. The more complex you make scripts the harder they are to market to a global foreign audiences. They've gotten around that problem by just cramming a bunch of CGI into the films so that they're still miles beyond what their domestic alternatives offer.

People in the US simply have more alternatives to going to the theater these days. You can play video games, go on social media, stream movies at home and so on. Literally the only thing that cinemas offers is a larger screen. But the downside is that you have to plan your entire fucking evening around just seeing a movie and plan it days in advance, just to see a movie. The ticket price might be 15-20 dollars, not including drinks and snacks, transportation, and so on. Seriously, back in the olden days, sitting at home was fucking boring as shit and going out was what you did to have fun. Now its the complete opposite. You'll save time and money by not going to cinemas.

I bought the dvds back in the day. But who still watches dvds these days? I have so many of them stored at my parents from when somehow I thought it was cool to own lots of movies, nowadays I realize how much space that shit takes in and how I don't want to rebuy all that shit cause of blurays. Meantime Netflix has very little to offer except maybe a few shows a year, it also doesn't offer most of the films I watch. So in the end I just realize that due to the market and competition I would end up paying for service after service each month just cause the rights are all over the place. Even netflix has limited offers cause my country has movie and series rights all messed up. That is why I pirate, I go to the movies when I feel a film is good, but I won't and can't support an idiot created system of multiple streaming servicea a month when everything is becoming more expensive. Less selection, and I don't always get to find what I want, but there's always new content being posted and I have about 500 1080p movies and a few that I wanted in 4k from using it. Also download all my tv shows that way.

Even for services I pay for, I still always download a copy of the show itself for my plex server, and because I just like having my own digital copy since I have multiple 8TB HDDs for storage and backup of all my files. It's nice to actually have my own collection that I can pull up whenever I want and watch without having to stream anything.

When I pirate movies or music, it's typically because it's something I've already bought in the past where the CD got scratched or lost or something like that. My thought process is this:

1. I owned it for infinite number of plays
2. They never had an expectation of getting more money out of me for the same thing
3. They've already received payment in exchange for this product
4. If I had made a copy for personal use they wouldn't have been able to say or do anything about it

I would have seen the first two Matrix movies in the theater if I could have, but I was too young and parents were overprotective. If I want to support something good, I go to the theater or I buy it to own. The main matter is nobody else but the top are going to see extra money. The crew was already paid and it all comes down to the box office. Also, I pay over $50 for services that give me only a fraction of what I even want to watch. It's impossible/fucking expensive to get your hands on a lot of things. I pay my dues.
