the rule of thumb i usually like to do is take the current projected cut line then double it and divide by 2

Ironically my chipping is ok and I average under 2 putts per round.

Like the other user said chipping/putting is the easiest place to win strokes consistently, have like a 3 hour day at the range where that's all you do and get a system down on lock.
You have to think double bogey avoidance, which means less risk taking and more setting up good 2nd shots. If you're more than 70 yards out you aren't pin seeking you're just trying to aim for the middle of the green.
