What are some good modern western movies?

Hostiles is pretty much The Last Samurai : Cowboy Edition, but that's not a bad thing. I enjoyed it.

If you can get past the fact that it's still capeshit, it's structured and heavily influenced by classic westerns. It's a great love letter to Westerns and a great analogy for capeshit inevitably ending up like westerns. It was refreshing and i believe mangold directed it too

Hostiles was great, can't go wrong with Bale.
You also got Ballad of Buster Scruggs, and Deadwood the movie.

The first hour of that film is two trained stage actors doing a very loose interpretation of King Lear.

Unironically, this film is a classic Western with a sci fi setting.
