I like how Reddit Letter Media is a company founded upon criticism, insulting and berating others and their works, but HEAVEN FORBID that anyone criticize them! No, James for the most part is an actual genuine filmmaker and person, he would immediately be put off by the vibes of the RLM studios. Imagine a person with actual passions, even if he's not particularly competent, trying to hang around RLM - people who are just totally insincere, laughing at obvious bad movies made with passion all the time, and so steeped in irony they can excuse their own terrible movies like Space Cop and say, “Oh well we didn’t make a Wheel of the Worst tier movie because WE were being ironic.” I mean they’re middle aged men, and they still do this? It’s not just about Wheel of the Worst, this attitude permeates through everything they create. James plays bad videogames and mocks them, but even though they are mostly just bad attempts to cash in on movies of the era and such, to do so makes him so uncomfortable he has to do it through the voice of the most exaggerated character you could possibly create, AVGN. And even then, not only was his own movie better than Space Cop, more pertinently his videogame was actually playable. Much more quality for its medium than Space Cop was for movies.
